Despite its name, Boxing Day has nothing to do with a boxing competition. It’s a traditional British festival, which was first celebrated in England during the Middle Ages. It is celebrated on December 26, the day after Christmas, in Great Britain, and in other English-speaking countries including Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Where did Boxing Day first come from? It is said that servants were once required to work on Christmas Day, but they could visit their families the next day, so as servants prepared to leave, their employers would give them boxes containing food and fruit, clothing, or money.

Today, Boxing Day is spent with family and friends with lots of food and the sharing of friendship and love. It’s also a day for shopping reduced price gifts, cards and decorations.
