Joanna Cole, born on August 11, 1944 in Newark, New Jersey, has been credited to be one of the most popular children's authors of all time. She has written over 250 books and is famous for writing one of the most popular children's book series. She knew as early as 5th grade that she was interested in writing and science. Cole has owed a large part of her passion to one of her elementary school teachers.
Joanna Cole continued her education by attending the University of Massachusetts and Indiana. She would eventually earn a bachelor's degree in psychology from the City College of New York in 1967; after graduation Cole decided to take some education courses to become a librarian at a Brooklyn elementary school in 1967. Eventually, she would take jobs working for Newsweek, Seesaw book club.
Cole's passion for writing and science was still alive and well during this time. In 197l she decided to write her first book, Cockroaches. She did some research and discovered there had never been a book written for children about cockroaches. So she thought she would be the first.
Cole struck gold when she wrote the first Magic School Bus in 1985. The book would go on to be published the following year and quickly became book series and cartoon series due to its success.
Cole continued to write both non-fiction and fiction books for children. She writes in a way that will hopefully inspire children to think like a scientist. She does this by writing ideas instead of just facts. She also tries to ask questions in her books that require children to think and discover the answers as they read. This creates an engaging experience for children, so it is no wonder why younger readers are hooked on her books.

Mars(火星) appears to be flowing with small streams of salty water, at least in the summer, scientists reported Monday. "It suggests that it would be possible for there to be life today on Mars," NASA's science mission chief, John Grunsfeld, said at a news conference on September 28, 2015.
The streams are about 12 to 15 feet wide and 300 feet or more long, scientists said. "What we're dealing with is wet soil, thin layers of wet soil, not standing water," said Aifred McEwen of the University of Arizona at Tueson, the principal scientist for the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter's high-resolution imaging experiment.
Because liquid water is essential to life, the findings could have major implications for the possibility of Martian life. The researchers said further exploration is needed to determine whether microscopic life exists on the planet.
The presence of liquid water could also make life easier for astronauts visiting or living on Mars. Water could be used for drinking and for creating oxygen and rocket fuel. NASA's goal is to send humans there in the 2030s.
The evidence of flowing water consists largely of dark, narrow streaks(条痕) on the surface that tend to appear and grow during the warmest Martian months and fade the rest of the year.
Mars is extremely cold even in summer, and the streaks are in places where the temperature is as low as minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit. But salt can lower the freezing point of water and melt ice.
The source of the water is a mystery. Scientists noted it could be melting ice. It could be an underground aquifer, which is rock or sand that can hold water. It is possibly water vapor from the thin Martian atmosphere. Or it may be a combination Michael Meyer, lead scientist for NASA's Mars exploration program, said the only definitive way for now to determine whether there's life on Mars is to collect rocks and soil for analysis on Earth—something a U. S. lander set for lift-off in 2020 will do.
(1)According to John Grunsfeld, there seems to be              on Mars.
    A. salty water                  B. standing water                  C. rocket fuel                  D. human beings
(2)Scientists are uncertain about the               of the water on Mars.
    A.state
    B.source
    C.temperature
    D.taste
(3)What matters to the existence of liquid water on Mars?
    A.The distance from the sun
    B.The favorable climate
    C.The gravity of the earth
    D.The salt in it
(4)What would be the best title for the text?
A.Streams of Water Spotted on Mars
    B.Astronauts will Land on Mars
    C.NASA's Mars Exploration Program
D.A Breakthrough in the Exploration of Mars
For many parents, raising a teenager is like fighting a long war, but years go by without any clear winner. Like a border conflict between neighboring countries, the parent-teen war is about boundaries: Where is the line between what I control and what you do?
Both sides want peace, but neither feels it has any power to stop the conflict. In part, this is because neither is willing to admit any responsibility for starting it. From the parents' point of view, the only cause of their fight is their adolescents' complete unreasonableness. And of course, the teens see it in exactly the same way, except oppositely. Both feel trapped.
In this article, I'll describe three no-win situations that commonly arise between teens and parents and then suggest some ways out of the trap. The first no-win situation is quarrel on unimportant things. Examples include the color of the teen's hair, the cleanness of the bedroom, the preferred style of clothing, the child's failure to eat a good breakfast before school, or his tendency to sleep until noon on the weekends. Second, blaming. The goal of a blaming battle is to make the other admit that his bad attitude is the reason why everything goes wrong. Third, needing to be right. It doesn't matter what the topic is—politics, the laws of physics, or the proper way to break an egg—the point of these arguments is to prove that you are right and the other person is wrong, for both wish to be considered an authority—someone who actually knows something—and therefore to command respect. Unfortunately, as long as parents and teens continue to assume that they know more than the other, they'll continue to fight these battles forever and never make any real progress.
(1)Why does the author compare the parent teen war to a border conflict?
    A. Both can continue for generations.                B. Both are about where to draw the line.
    C. Neither has any clear winner.                          D. Neither can be put to an end.
(2)What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.The teens blame their parents for starting the conflict.
B.The teens agree with their parents on the cause of the conflict.
C.The teens accuse their parents of misleading them.
D.The teens tend to have a full understanding of their parents.
(3)Parents and teens want to be right because they want to__________.
    A.give orders to the other
    B.know more than the other
    C.gain respect from the other
D.get the other to behave properly
(4)What will the author most probably discuss in the paragraph that follows?
    A.Causes for the parent-teen conflicts
    B.Examples of the parent-teen war
    C.Solutions to the parent-teen problems
    D.Future of the parent-teen relationship

How to Enjoy Life As a Teen
Maybe teens are not the best years of your life, but you should still learn to make the most of your high school days.________
⒈Learn to appreciate small things. Whether it's having a computer, having friends, having a family that loves you, or simply being born in this world, remember that the point of life is for you to enjoy it. ________ Remember these are the last few years you are able to enjoy yourself without having to worry about the responsibility of an adult, but make sure you prepare yourself for when you actually become an adult,
⒉Choose your friends wisely. ________Try to have friends that like you who you are, not just the things you have. These are people who shop at the same store as you; not someone who will sympathize with you when your dog dies.
⒊Be sociable. Participating in clubs, activities, and sports increases your chances of meeting new friends.________ Participating gives you something to do instead of sitting bored at home and wallowing in self-pity.
⒋________ Video games, for example, are good if you're the type who can get into that kind of thing. You should also find a hobby that is meaningful or practical. Use your "hobby time" to start developing and uncovering passions.
⒌Work at a job you can enjoy. Working is a great way to gain experience and to meet other people. Prior work experience will help you find a job more easily. If you can't find work, just volunteer or make your own job.
    A. Small things may make a great difference to your life.
    B. In fact, many of the "friends" you have when you are popular are not true friends.
    C. Following are some tips for you.
    D. You can pursue interests you enjoy.
    E. Try to take part in various social activities.
    F. While you only need 4 or 5 close friends, that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to meet new people.
    G. Be happy and life will reward you.

根据第一段中的“Cole has owed a large part of her passion to one of her elementary school teachers.”
根据第四段中的“The book would go on to be published the following year and quickly became book series and cartoon series due to its success.” 故选A。
根据最后一段中的“She writes in a way that will hopefully inspire children to think like a scientist. She does this by writing ideas instead of just facts. She also tries to ask questions in her books that require children to think and discover the answers as they read.”

根据第一段中的“Like a border conflict between neighboring countries ,the parent-teen war is about boundaries: Where is the line between what I control and what you do?”
根据第二段中的“From the parents' point of view, the only cause of their fight is their adolescents' complete unreasonableness.” 选A。
根据最后一段中的“Third , needing to be right ,It doesn't matter what the topic is –politics. The laws of physics ,or the proper way to break an egg –the point of these arguments is to prove that you are right and the other person is wrong , for both wish to be considered an authority—someone who actually knows something — and  therefore to command respect”可知,他们争论的话题是什么不重要,重要的是他们要证明自己是对的,而对方是不对的,从而赢得尊重。
根据由最后一段中的“In this article, I'll describe three no-win situations that commonly arise between teens and parents and then suggest some ways out of the trap.”

    7.【答案】 matters;However;forgetful;met;On/Upon;saying;which;worries;expected;the
The act itself rather than the thing you buy matters。
根据文章第一句“When an important holiday comes, I usually think of what gifts to buy or prepare for my family members.” 故填However。
seem to be固定短语,“好像是...”
根据“When my son came back during the summer vacation,”这个时间状语从句可以判断主句“my wife and I, as usual, ___4___ (meet) him at the station.”
故填On/Upon。
故填which。
as+形容词/副词+as和...
故填the。
8.【答案】 ①while —when  ②mother —mother's  ③complete —completely  ④idea前加the  ⑤去掉the  ⑥search —searched  ⑦dress —dresses  ⑧去掉it  ⑨get —getting  ⑩very —so
be doing sth…when… 这时.......",因此while改为when。
so…that…

It has been a tradition for us Chinese people to drink tea for ages. And drinking tea is of great benefit to our health, contributing to keeping us slim and refreshed. I'm sure you'll be fascinated about it during your stay here. Will you be available to attend the lecture?
        Looking forward to your coming.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
    【考点】提纲作文,文字式应用文,半开放性作文
    【解析】【分析】本题是一篇英文信件,要求考生以李华的身份给留学生朋友Robert写封邮件,邀请他参加你校拟举办的茶文化讲座。写作要点已经给出,属于提纲类作文,内容包括:1)讲座的时间、地点;
    2)活动安排;3)喝茶的好处。给出的要点比较简略,考生可以做一定发挥,使上下文连贯。写作时注意准确运用时态,上下文意思要连贯,符合逻辑关系,尽量使用自己熟悉的单词句式,同时也要注意使用高级词汇和高级句型使文章显得更有文采。
As is scheduled, our school will hold a lecture on the history of Chinese tea. The lecture will be addressed/delivered in the lecture hall of our school on June 8th next Saturday afternoon, beginning at 3 and lasting about two hours. Professor Wang will give us a lecture about the history of Chinese tea and its main types, followed by a performance of Chinese tea show. I'm sure you'll be fascinated about it during your stay here.
