Late last year, a dozen Chinese students were admitted to the China-India Yoga College (CIYC) in the southern Chinese city of Kunming, where yoga teachers from India are part of the staff, for the first postgraduate degree in yoga. The number isn’t large, but it is a sign of “widespread attention” the ancient Indian practice is getting in China.
When the 12 students graduate after three years — the last one in India learning among other things, Sanskrit — they will be the first students holding post-graduate degrees in yoga in China. An interview of the first master’s students of yoga in China reflected the “charming spirituality of the ancient practice”. Zhang Mengping, who worked at a yoga club in Zhejiang Province before, said yoga helped her find inner peace. She felt good to see the “... links between the ancient Chinese and Indian knowledge systems”.
Government-sponsored research showed in 2017 that China had 10, 800 registered yoga centers. Lang Gongxun, CIYC vice-president, said, “There is a huge professional demand in China’s yoga industry, and the college is hoping to train comprehensive professionals to improve the healthy development of this sector.”
China, in fact, had backed India's motion at the UN to make June 21 as International Yoga Day, giving a huge fillip to hundreds of yoga clubs and organizations in China. Thousands of Chinese have participated in the Yoga Day celebrations across the country in the last four International Yoga Days since 2015. Besides Indian embassy-backed events, local organizations and yoga schools also organize programs to mark the day.
The China Yoga Industry Development Report (CYIDR) said that the old links between “pure” yoga from India and traditional Chinese culture including Tai Chi and traditional Chinese medicine aided the spread of the practice in China.
    24. What can we learn from the passage?
    A. The China-India Yoga College has some Indian teachers.
    B. Zhang Mengping is famous for her yoga practice.
    C. Lang Gongxun objects to the spread of yoga in China.
    D. International Yoga Day was first proposed by the Chinese government.
    25. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “fillip” in Paragraph 4?
    A. encouragement. B. suggestion. C. space. D. permission.
    26. What to we know about yoga according to the text?
A It is a traditional practice in Yunnan.
    B. It helps people to find peaceful places to live in.
    C. It is about some ancient spirits.
    D. It is a practice from ancient India.
    27. What is the main idea of the text?
    A. Yoga and Chinese culture are mixed together.
    B. Yoga is getting more popular in China.
    C. Chinese government supports yoga greatly.
    D. 12 Chinese students will get their master degree in yoga.
    C
Chimney swifts (烟囱雨燕) are widespread and common across the eastern United States, but the population is decreasing.
Though insect killers hurt mosquitoes, they also hurt all of the insects and birds and other wildlife which need insects to live. Chimney swifts are also having a harder time finding suitable nesting places. As a result, chimney swifts have adapted to nesting inside chimneys. Yet now they find these disappearing too, as builders of new houses no longer use a chimney or use modern equipment to either improve safety or increase the efficiency of fireplaces and wood stoves.
That’s why chimney swift advocates have been creating artificial habitats. The “Exhibitat” is a 24-foot chimney swift tower located in Atlanta’s largest park which can provide nesting places for these birds. Atlanta Piedmont Park’s new Exhibitat also grows native flower garden to help encourage chimney swifts flying through the city to nest in the tower.
So, what do you do to help chimney swifts?
If you live in an older home with a traditional chimney, you just need to keep an eye and an ear out for these fascinating birds. While homeowners may worry about birds nesting in their chimneys, the birds actually do very little damage and will rarely inhabit the space during the heating season — meaning there’s little chance of conflict between you wanting a toasty fire and your swifts being able to care for their young.
ChimneySwifts. org has a great article on being a good swift landlord, including an important reminder: Even if you do want your swifts gone, you may not be allowed to remove them, Chimney swifts are protected by law, and you should ask your chimney cleaning company about its bird policy. If they offer “bird removal” services, they may be flouting(嘲笑,藐视) the law and should be avoided.
But what if you don’t have a chimney?
    28. What is mainly talked about in the second paragraph?
    A. The reasons for the decrease of chimneys.
    B. Chimney swifts’ tough living environment.
    C. The harmful effect of insect killers on birds.
    D. Chimney swifts’ living habits and lifestyles.
    29. How did Atlanta Piedmont Park help chimney swifts?
    A. They set up more feeding places.
    B. They passed laws to protect swifts.
    C. They added chimneys to the houses.
    D. They provide these birds living places.
    30. What can we know about chimney swifts?
    A. They like to get close to humans.
    B. They are under protection by law.
    C. They are in danger of dying out.
    D. Chimneys are their favorite nesting places.
    31. What will be probably talked about in the following paragraph?
    A. The result of not having a chimney.
    B. The methods to attract swifts to your house.
    C. The ways to help swifts without a chimney.
    D. The suffering swifts will have without nesting places.
    D
Does size matter? When it comes to your social media followers, the answer is absolutely “no”.
That’s one of the conclusions of a groundbreaking study led by Omri Gillath, a professor at the University of Kansas. The study was published recently in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.
He and his colleagues examined attachment style, which is basically how people behave in relationships. They looked at both the real-life social circles of their participants and their social media circles. And they focused on several personality characteristics, including anxiety and avoidance, and how those behaviors affect tie strength, that is how close you are to the people in your net work and multiplexity (多重复杂性), which means how many activities and functions you do with those people.
“If you’re high on attachment avoidance, you tend not to trust others — downplaying the importance of emotions and relationships, ” Gillath said, “On the contrary, if you’re high on attachment anxiety, you’re very concerned with rejection and abandonment and tend to be affected by emotions.”
Those are all interesting findings for sure, but they are also pretty obvious. But don’t worry: the researchers didn’t stop there. They also asked participants to identify the number of their social media followers, and they discovered something they didn’t expect.
“We found the more friends you have in your network, the lower your tie strength is, and multiplexity-size weakens the quality of your networks’ ties,” Gillath said.
“There are many things that can be bad about social networks.” Gillath said. “However, if you’re using your social networks for fulfilling or serving your attachment needs — such as a secure base — that’s likely to result in positive outcomes.”
So while you might be in an unspoken race to gather more followers than your fellows, it turns out that your plentiful friend list means you’ve got some work to do in the relationship department. It’s about quality, not quantity.
    32. What is talked about in paragraph3?
    A. The process of the research. B. The research contents.
    C. Several personality characteristics. D. Different attachment styles.
    33. What is the finding of the study?
    A. The number of friends doesn't matter in our life.
    B. Social networks have obvious bad effects on people.
    C. True friends are not necessarily social media followers.
    D. Having too many social media friends will lower our tie strength.
    34. What is the characteristic of people with high attachment anxiety?
    A. They are hard to earn others’ trust.
    B. They are not popular in social networks.
    C. They worry about being rejected by friends.
    D. They take an active part in various activities.
    35. Which can show the author’s opinion?
    A. People can be judged through the friends they make.
    B. Having more friends means having more work to do.
    C. The more friends you have, the better you’ll become.
    D. Quality is better than quantity when it comes to friends.
    第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
    根据短文内容,从对话后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Imagine that you are in a remote village somewhere with no medical clinic. 36 Once the doctors get to you, they examine you and take blood samples, but they won’t be able to help you until they take the samples back to the hospital to find out what is wrong. 37 Thanks to engineer Andy Ozcan, many people may never be in this situation. He has invented an app that turns your mobile phone into a diagnostic(诊断的) tool.
Ozcan’s invention is important because it is very accurate and easy to use. In many remote places, even if doctors have microscopes and other instruments to help them make diagnoses, there may still be other problems. Many doctors, for example, don’t have enough training to correctly interpret what they see. 38 With Ozcan’s mobile phone app, health workers can take a special photo of a blood sample and send it to a central computer at a hospital. The computer will then automatically interpret the photo and send a diagnosis back in a few minutes.
39 His technology only requires a mobile phone and an Internet connection. As more than four billion people already have cell phones, the cost of establishing the diagnostic system is fairly low.
By inventing a medical tool that uses existing technology—mobile phones—Ozcan has developed a medical tool that is both practical and economical. Therefore, it can be used effectively almost anywhere. 40

    A. Another reason that Ozcan’s invention is important is that it is inexpensive.
    B. Even though you may only have a simple infection, you might die because of the delay.
    C. People are trying to reduce the cost of this new medical tool.
    D. Ozcan’s simple, cost-effective tool might just save millions of lives around the world.
    E. This tool has become much more popular all around the world.
    F. You become very sick and must wait days until a mobile medical unit arrives to help.
    G. As a result, they may diagnose illnesses incorrectly.

In order to express our affection for pigs, we decorate the images of the pig on a variety of stuff. Consequently, if you want to buy some specific gifts about pigs, there are ample things, such as commemorative coins of the “Pig Year” and commemorative stamps for you to choose from. W: I must sit with my back to the engine.
M: Let's put these on the rack.

M, Hi, Miss, I' m here looking for Mrs. Davis.

    M: I was a little anxious to get here, I guess.[来源:Z_xx_k.Com]
W: Are you good at typing or helping the manager with her work?
M: I 've come to take the place of a lady called Mrs Davis, I'll do a lot of typing jobs.
W: Oh, then you're the very person who will replace me.
    M: I'm sorry for that.
W: Oh, no, I’ve just got a transfer to the general manager's office.
    Text 8
    W. Hey, Henry. You look busy. What's that you’re reading?[来源:学,科,网Z,X,X,K]
M, Oh, hi, Jane. I' m studying for my driver’s license. I just hope I can remember all these traffic laws.
W: I’m sure you'll pass the tests, especially since you can miss a few and still pass. Just don't forget to bring your glasses with you so you don't fail the vision test.
M: Yeah. I know. I think the written test will be OK, but I’m really worried about the road test. I never took driver’s education and I'm nervous behind the wheel. My brother failed his first test because he forgot to signal a left turn. He also made a mistake when he had to park between two other cars.
W: It sounds like he just got nervous. So when’s your appointment at the Department of Motor Vehicles?
M: Next Tuesday, But I might just go in earlier and take the test as a walk-in.

    M: Thanks. See you around.

W: I didn’t know there was going to be a concert. Who’s playing.
M: The jazz band from the Peace Hotel.
W: Oh, great! I’ve heard a lot about the band. It's very unusual: all the players are in their seventies and eighties.
M: Yeah, the piano player is 8I and the trumpet player is 78.
W: They are fantastic musicians. I’m sure I' ll like the concert, and I'm glad you asked me.
M: The concert starts at 7: 30. Do you want to have something to eat before that?
W:Sure, but I want to share the expenses.
M: I really appreciate that very much. My funds are a bit low now.
W: Well, I'II pay for my own dinner, then, and I’ll buy my own concert ticket, too.
M: Fine with me. I’ll come over to your dormitory at six. OK?
    W: Sure, see you then.
    Text 10
Before we begin the first program of the day with chemistry for the Open University at three o'clock in just two minutes' time, let's take a look at a few of the programs later in the day. First of all, for those lucky ones who don’t go out to work, there is afternoon cinema. This is your chance to catch up with some of the old movies which you always meant to see but never got round to. Today, at 4: 30, we have a great film by Charlie Chaplin. After this, at 6: 15, there is the popular program Spot the Mistake where you are invited to compete with a team of experts, This is followed at 7 o'clock by the World Around. This week, we’ll be taking a look at the life in Sonoran Desert in Arizona where day-time temperatures can reach 45 degrees. At 8:50, we have 100 Great Sporting Movements in which we will enjoy yesterday 's African, Final of Wimbledon, between the Manchester United and Brighten. This will be followed by the news at 10 o'clock. At 10: 15, we have the Art Show. A group of painters came together in 1965 and called themselves “the Artists of America”.
