Past cntinuus tensebe (was/were) + verb-ing
过去进行时的基本用法表示过去某一时刻正在进行的动作以及过去某一段时间内持续进行的动作,常与表示过去的具体时间，如：at that time，at this time yesterday，all mrning等连用。

过去进行时与一般过去时的区别 1. 过去进行时着重描述当时正在进行的动作，它的特点是：未完成，强调过程；一般过去时表示一个业已完成的动作，表示动作发生过，而且已经结束了，强调结果。

was making表示正在做衣服的过程，如用made则表示这一动作已结束，做衣服的动作已结束与cut her finger就没有联系。
2. He _____(write) a letter，then went t bed．
wrte表示动作已结束，做另一件事，如用was writing就与went t bed在逻辑上相矛盾。
2. 过去进行时侧重表示动作的延续； 一般过去时表示过去某时发生过某 事，侧重说明事实。
