B
During my summer exchange prgram in Ri de Janeir, Brazil, I experienced a series f awkward yet enlightening mments caused by cultural differences in bdy language.
On my first day, my hst family greeted me with verwhelming warmth. When the father, Carls, apprached me with a strng embrace and kissed bth my cheeks, I instinctively stepped back, my bdy stiff with surprise. In my culture, such intimate(亲密的)gestures are reserved fr clse friends r family, nt ffered t strangers upn first meeting. I nticed a flicker f cnfusin n his face, which immediately made me regret my reactin.
The fllwing day, I jined sme lcal students at a café. Everyne was friendly, and the cnversatin flwed. At ne pint, a girl named Ana described her plan fr the weekend and made the “OK” hand gesture, frming a circle with her thumb and index finger. I smiled
and returned the same sign, assuming it meant agreement r apprval. T my surprise, she lked startled and quickly lwered her hand. Later, a friend gently explained that in Brazil, that particular gesture is cnsidered rude and ffensive, similar t raising a middle finger in sme ther cultures. I felt my face burn with embarrassment.
Anther incident happened during a grup discussin. I maintained steady eye cntact t shw that I was attentive and sincere. Hwever, I nticed that my Brazilian cunterparts frequently glanced away instead f hlding my gaze. It felt as if they were disinterested r distracted. Afterwards, my hst sister tld me that in her culture, prlnged eye cntact, especially in casual cnversatins, can be perceived( 理解)as cnfrntatinal r even aggressive. They prefer sfter and shrter eye cntact t shw respect and maintain harmny.
These experiences made me realize hw easily nnverbal signals can be misread acrss cultures. I had assumed that my wn habits were universal, but I was unintentinally causing cnfusin. Since then, I have made an effrt t bserve and learn the lcal custms f any cuntry I visit. Understanding bdy language is just as imprtant as learning the language itself when it cmes t truly cnnecting with peple frm different backgrunds.
Hw did the authr react when the hst father greeted him with a hug and a kiss?
He respnded with the same gesture.B. He stepped back nervusly.
C. He shk hands instead.D. He ignred the greeting.
Why did the authr feel embarrassed after making the “OK” gesture?
Because it meant smething negative in Brazil.
Because he didn’t say thank yu.
Because the girl didn’t understand him.
Because he made the gesture incrrectly.
The underlined wrd “cnfrntatinal” in the furth paragraph mst likely means
.

C. full f respectD. shy and nervus
What is the main purpse f this passage?

Shan als talked abut his time as the guardian f the Frbidden City. He walked thrugh all 9,371 rms and pened mre than 80% f the palace t the public. “I want t give a magnificent Frbidden City t the next 600 years,” he said. Besides, he intrduced the Cultural Relics Hspital, where ver 2,000 experts use mdern technlgy t repair and prtect artifacts.

Researchers chse 433 participants t evaluate science-related scial media psts, sme accurate and sme false n purpse, cvering fd safety and disease preventin. Sme psts carried a bright red warning: “Attentin: The cntent was detected as being generated by AI.” Others did nt. Participants rated hw credible(可靠的)each pst seemed t them.
When a false health pst carried the AI label, participants rated it as mre credible than the same false pst withut it. Accurate psts shwed the ppsite: The label made them seem less trustwrthy. Researchers described this as a “truth-falsity crssver effect”. T understand why, cnsider hw mst peple actually read scial media. Nbdy is fact-checking claims while reading. Instead, readers rely n habitual thught prcesses t decide what feels believable. An AI label appears t functin as ne f thse shrtcuts, but nt in the way anyne intended.
The researchers suggest ne pssible explanatin. The label may draw n a widespread idea that AI is bjective and data-driven. Misinfrmatin, typically written t sund plausible, culd benefit frm that assciatin. Accurate science psts, which tend t
invlve qualified claims and layered reasning, may get hurt by it. A label saying “a machine made this” might signal cld, mechanical precisin by chance, even when the cntent is cmpletely wrng.
Health psts are nt simply claims. They are explanatins. Readers must trust nt just the facts but the reasning behind them. An AI label may shrt-circuit that trust in accurate cntent while lending false authrity t misinfrmatin written t sund like settled fact. The researchers prpsed ne ptential fix wrth testing: pairing an AI warning label with a secnd label, smething alng the lines f a cautin that the cntent has nt been independently prven. Rather than letting the AI label carry all the interpretive weight, a tw-part reminder might encurage mre careful reading acrss the bard. It’s an untested idea, but a lgical directin given what the study fund.
What causes the truth-falsity crssver effect?
The AI label’s warning clr.
Accurate psts’ layered reasning.
Misinfrmatin’s generus tne.
Readers’ autmatic thinking patterns.
What des the underlined wrd “plausible” in paragraph 3 prbably mean?
A. Optinal.B. Reasnable.C. Different.D. False.
What is the authr’s attitude tward the tw-label slutin prpsed by researchers?
A. Dubtful.B. Uninterested.C. Critical.D. Favrable.
What is the best title fr the text?
Accurate Psts Suffer frm AI Labels
Dubters Distrust True Labeled Psts
AI Labels Can Mislead Public Judgment
False Claims Can Prfit frm AI Labels
