A mm recently laughed while telling us, “By week tw f summer, I had a clr-cded plan. By week three, my sn had quietly ignred all f it.” And hnestly, that’s ften the case. Summer has a funny way f expsing the gap between what we plan and what we actually need. Fr mst teens, this seasn is nt just a break frm schl but a reset fr mental health, sleep, and identity. Yet the pressure t stay prductive sneaks in, summer gals, skill building, internships… a strict and detailed t-d list.
Here is the thing: a balanced summer rutine des nt mean ding everything; it means chsing what matters. One teen we spke t said she started keeping “tw gd things a day” instead f a t-d list.
Smetimes it was finishing a chapter, smetimes just getting ut f bed befre nn, small wins, but real nes. Parents can supprt this by shifting the cnversatin frm results t rhythm. Ask hw the day felt, nt just what gt dne.
That small shift builds trust and lwers pressure. At the same time, a little structure can help summer nt turn int ne lng scrll sessin. Think gentle grwth, nt strict schedules. A simple trick is the “half and half” apprach, half the day fr smething that adds value, reading, helping at hme, learning smething small, and half fr relaxatin, friends, r ding abslutely nthing. Yes, ding nthing cunts. Teens need bredm mre than we admit; it is where creativity and self-discvery quietly grw. Parents, try being a sunding
bard instead f a supervisr; maybe a quick weekly check-in ver pizza wrks better than daily reminders. And teens, it is kay if yur summer is nt aesthetic r perfectly planned. The real gal is t feel rested, a bit mre cnfident, and still cnnected t yur peple. Because when schl starts again, what stays is nt the checklist—it is the feeling that yu had a summer that was actually yurs.
Why d mst teens fail t stick t the summer plan?
They frget their gals.B. Their plans are t strict.
      C. They dn’t have much free time.D. Their summer activities are
      bring.
What des the “half and half” methd mean?
      Half at hme, half utside.
Half fr grwth, half fr rest.
      Half alne, half with friends.
Half fr study, half fr sprts.
What rle des the authr advise parents t play in summer?
      A strict reminder.B. A task planner.
      C. A supprtive listener.D. A summer tutr.
What is the mst suitable title fr the passage?
      Yur Summer, Yur Way

Bth caffeinated and decaffeinated cffee can lead t imprvements in md and cgnitive perfrmance, pssibly thrugh their effects n the gut micrbime (肠道菌群).
Scientists have lng knwn that cffee can influence digestin, cgnitin and md, thanks partly t interactins with gut micrbes. But while mst research n cffee’s effects has fcused n caffeine, cffee is als ne f the richest surces f plant plyphenls (多酚). Gut micrbes may cnvert them int bilgically active substances, which may influence brain functin.
T get a clearer view f these interactins, Jhn Cryan at University Cllege Crk in Ireland and his clleagues rganized 62 healthy participants, half f whm were regular cffee drinkers and half f whm didn’t drink cffee. After an initial cmparisn, regular drinkers stpped drinking cffee fr 14 days, fllwed by a 21-day reintrductin stage in which all participants were randmly allwed t cnsume either caffeinated r decaffeinated cffee.
In each stage, the researchers cllected samples like bld and urine (尿液) t assess physilgical respnses t cffee plyphenls. They als assessed the participants’ md, cgnitin, stress, sleep and behavir.
Obviusly, cmpared with nn-cffee-drinkers, cnsuming caffeinated cffee was assciated with lwer anxiety and imprved attentin, whereas decaffeinated cffee was linked t imprved scres in memry tests and better sleep quality. Bth kinds f cffee were assciated with lwer ratings f stress and depressin. When cffee was remved and then reintrduced, the participants’ micrbimes changed rapidly, with bth regular and decaffeinated cffee being linked t higher levels f beneficial gut bacteria. “We were surprised by hw dynamic the system is,” says Cryan.
The analysis suggests that cffee’s effects n cgnitive scres are caused by plyphenls nt caffeine, since these scres crrelated with the measurements f certain plyphenls frm the participants’ urine samples.
Team member Daniele Del Ri at the University f Parma, Italy, says a key next step will be t determine hw different types f cffee affect the micrbime. “Nt all cffee is the same: even the degree f rasting prfundly influences its chemical cmpsitin.”
Why did scientists carry ut the study?
T invent new cffee drinks.B. T test cffee’s caffeine level.
      C. T study cffee-gut relatins.D. T cure peple’s sleeplessness.
What can we learn frm the research prcess?
It judges cffee taste via samples.
It is mainly made up f three phases.
It is based n the interview f the 62 participants.
It fcuses n the effects f caffeine n human health.
What des decaffeinated cffee help imprve?
Stress and appetite.B. Attentin and md.
      C. Diet and digestin.D. Sleep and memry.
Which f the fllwing affects peple’s cgnitin mst?
      Caffeine.B. Cffee plyphenls.
      C. Types f cffee.D. Degree f rasting.

If artificial intelligence is ging t transfrm the way science is dne, as many f the AI labratries hpe, it needs t master bard games first. That’s the lessn frm a recent study f AI mdels’
decisin-making skills, tested with the bard game Battleship. The gal was t find ways fr mdels t seek mre infrmatin with limited resurces.
Science requires lts f decisins — researchers must chse which experiment t run amng many hyptheses (假设). The chices will determine which path t fllw when resurces fr experiments are limited, and getting data is either expensive r time-cnsuming,” says Pepe, the prject leader.
Pepe and his team designed the bard game Battleship that culd be played by humans r AI. In the game, ne team member generated questins abut the map f ships’ lcatins while anther answered them, in a cmbined effrt t lcate where the ships were hidden and sink them. By cunting hw many runds it tk t sink all the ships, the researchers culd test hw large language mdels (LLMs) perfrmed cmpared with ther LLMs and with the 42 human players. Initially, humans cnsistently wn in fewer mves than Llama-4-Scut, Meta’s efficiency-fcused AI mdel. OpenAI’s reasning mdel, GPT-5, perfrmed better than bth.
The scientists gt ideas frm Bayesian experimental design, in which researchers guess the likelihd based n what they already knw by raising questins. The scientists trained the mdels t ask smart questins, which helped them hit ships mre accurately and learn mre infrmatin each time. They als learned t think abut the next mves. The scientists als fund that using shrt pieces f cde, instead f plain language, helped the players be mre accurate. Thrugh this prcess, the grup led Llama-4-Scut t win in fewer mves than GPT-5 tw thirds f the time at abut ne hundredth f the cst. On average, it als wn in seven fewer mves than the human players.
Battleship is much simpler than many prblems in science — chemical and bilgical samples, fr instance, can’t be interpreted as clearly as Battleship bards. But Pepe says the methds AI used in the game will prbably als apply t scientific decisin-making.
Why is Battleship chsen fr the study?
      It’s simple like daily tasks.
      It prvides cheap resurces.
      It mirrrs scientific decisin-making.
It helps AI learn hw t ask questins.
What des the underlined wrd “they” refer t in paragraph 4?
      The battleships.B. The AI mdels.
      C. Human players.D. Game questins.
Which perfrmed better after the experimental prcess?
      Llama-4-Scut.B. GPT-5.
      C. Human players.D. Cmmn AI mdels.
What is the authr’s attitude twards the study?
      Interested in bard game inventin.
Cnfident abut the AI they trained.
Hpeful fr AI’s future use in science.
Dubtful abut the perfrmance f LLM.
