Last spring, Jacb Parker tld his friends a piece f unexpected news. His mm, Illana Zauderer, wuld be a student n campus in the fall. “That was fine,” they tld him. “We think f the secnd year f cllege as ur Seasn 2 — with her playing the rle f the guest star.”
Befre entering the ne-year master’s prgram in plicy, rganizatin, and leadership studies in the Graduate Schl f Educatin, Zauderer taught math and vcal music and ran an educatin cnsulting business. Meanwhile, Califrnia has invested (投资) heavily in laws and bans, but at a high ecnmic cst and with limited natinwide impact.
Recycling, ften advertised as the basis f circularity(循环), is failing us. Arund the wrld, nly 9% f plastic is actually recycled. That’s because the current system depends n unrealistic levels f srting at the husehld level. If any item is plluted with leftver fd r the last drps f a beauty prduct, it is likely t end up in the landfill. Fr nearly three years, negtiatins(协商) have been underway fr the Glbal Plastics Treaty t address plastic waste by uplifting circular ecnmies.
