MONTREAL (Reuters) — Crssing the US-Canada brder (边界) t g t church n a Sunday cst a US citizen $10, 000 fr breaking Washingtn’s strict new security (安全) rules.

The US custms (海关) statin in this area is clsed n Sundays, s he just drve arund the lcked gate, as he had dne every weekend since the gate appeared last May, fllwing a tightening f brder security. Tw days later, Albert was tld t g t the custms ffice, where an fficer tld him he had been caught n camera crssing the brder illegally (非法).
Ottawa has given ut special passes t sme 300 US citizens in that area s they can enter the cuntry when Canadian custms statins are clsed, but the US stpped a similar prgram last May. That frces the peple t a 200-mile detur alng hilly rads t get hme thrugh anther brder checkpint.

The study als prvides an explanatin fr why middle children ften seem t have a harder time in life than their siblings (兄弟姐妹). In my family, it was always imprtant t place blame when anything had happened.
“Wh did this?” my mther wuld scream abut a dirty kitchen.
“This is all yur fault, Katharine,” my father wuld insist when the cat gt ut r the dishwasher brke.
Frm the time we were little, my sister, brthers and I tld n each ther. We set a place fr blame at the dinner table.
But the Whites didn’t wrry abut wh had dne what. They picked up the pieces and mved n with their lives. The beauty f this was driven hme t me the summer Jane died.
In July, the White sisters and I decided t take a car trip frm their hme in Flrida t New Yrk. The tw lder sisters, Sarah and Jane, were cllege students, and the yungest, Amy, had recently turned sixteen. Prud f having a new driver’s license (驾照), Amy was excited abut practicing her driving n the trip. She shwed ff her license t everyne she met.

When Mr and Mrs White arrived at the hspital, they fund their tw daughters sharing a rm. Sarah had a few cuts n the head; Amy’s leg was brken. They hugged (拥抱) us all and cried tears f sadness and f jy at seeing their daughters. They wiped away the girls’ tears and made a few jkes at Amy as she learned t use her crutches (拐杖).
T bth f their daughters, and especially t Amy, ver and ver they simply said, “We’re s glad that yu’re alive.”
I was astnished. N blame. N accusatins (指责).
Later, I asked the Whites why they never talked abut the fact that Amy was driving and had run a stp sign.
Mrs White said, “Jane’s gne, and we miss her terribly. Nthing we say r d will ever bring her back, but Amy has her whle life ahead f her. Hw can she lead a full and happy life if she feels we blame her fr her sister’s death?”
They were right. Amy graduated frm the University f Califrnia and gt married several years ag. She wrks as a teacher f learning-disabled students. She’s als a mther f tw little girls f her wn, the ldest named Jane.
