Scientists have lng identified fur elements abut apps r scial media that hld children’s attentin fr as
lng as pssible. Understanding them may help parents knw hw t avid ptential traps fr their kids.
One f the elements is slitude. Studies have fund that children wh regularly use screens alne in their
bedrms have a higher risk f develping what psychlgists call prblematic usage. That is, they cntinue t use
an app r play a game even when it damages their health. Fr example, the app may affect their sleep r friendships,
but they still culd nt stp.
Anther elements is bttmlessness. Vides keep appearing n TikTk and YuTube. Phts, cmments and
likes keep ppping up n Instagram. Apps have seemingly endless materials fr kids t see, and they all shw r
play autmatically. There’s n natural stpping pint. S kids never feel finished r satisfied. That feeling grws
even strnger with the third ingredient (成分) added int the mix: speed.
Fr scial media, the speed at which kids can find “new” cntent has jumped with several technlgical
advancements, including the inventin f higher-speed internet and easy scrll (翻屏). S the faster kids can scrll
and watch, the harder it is fr them t pull away frm an app. The speed can create a sense that they merge (合体)
with the screen. In ther wrds, they dn’t knw where they begin and the machine ends. The speed just pulls them
      int this flw.
The final ingredient is teasing. Here’s hw teasing typically wrks: The app never gives kids what they are
really lking fr. It gives just enugh t keep them attracted. This teasing gives kids the feeling that they’re ging
t get what they’re seeking sn. S they’ll be there all day trying t get that next big thing. This is perhaps the
mst imprtant feature f the app.
With all these fur elements, nearly everyne, nt just the kids, will get addicted t the app r scial media.
      32. Which phenmenn can be described as slitude?
      A. Playing alne. B. Offering endless rewards.
      C. Respnding quickly. D. Keeping users unsatisfied.
      33. What des the underlined wrd “they” in paragraph 3 refer t?
      A. Children. B. Vides. C. Prgrams. D. Apps.
      34. What is prbably the mst addictive element abut an app?
      A. Slitude. B. Teasing. C. Speed. D. Bttmlessness.
      35. What is the authr’s main purpse in writing this text?
      A. T review a prduct. B. T warn teenagers.
      C. T analyze the harm. D. T keep parents infrmed.
