Wmen wh cannt affrd t thrw away clthing in this way, waste hurs f their time changing their ld-fashined dresses. Skirts are lengthened r shrtened; neck-lines are lwered r raised, and s n.
N ne can claim that the fashin industry cntributes anything really imprtant t sciety. Fashin designers are rarely cncerned with necessary things like warmth, cmfrt and durability (耐用). While ftball fans feel strngly angry and shcked abut mistakes made by referees (裁判) because they cannt see clearly what has happened, a small German cmpany is quietly pleased.
Fr Cairs Technlgies, mistakes made by referees are the kind f advertising that mney cannt buy. The cmpany has develped a tiny chip(芯片) that fits inside a ftball and determines whether the ball has crssed the gal line, by being able t discver its exact lcatin n the field. The wrld ftball rganizatin, FIFA, has shwn interest in the technlgy. It is very pssible that the new technlgy will be used in the 2006 Wrld Cup in Germany.
"We've been testing the technlgy at the main sccer stadium in Nuremberg fr sme time and mre recently in an under-17 FIFA Cup in Peru," said Gunter Rhmer, a directr f the cmpany. "The technlgy has perfrmed well, and we're pretty ptimistic that it will be used at the games in Germany next year."
The chip nly weighs 12 grams, and is placed in the center f the ftball. It sends 2,000 signals a secnd t a receiver netwrk f 12 antennas(天线),placed arund the field. The receivers then send infrmatin abut the ball's lcatin t a central cmputer, and because it wrks in real time, it can immediately tell the referee whether a gal has been scred. The chip even can tell when the ball crsses the line in mid-air. Oliver Braun, ne f the inventrs f the chip, says that feedback frm German referees was generally psitive. Germany sprts-wear giant Adidas is als ptimistic abut using this kind f chip in ther ball sprts.
FIFA aims t test the technlgy later this year at anther game in Japan befre deciding whether r nt t intrduce it in all 12 stadiums in Germany fr next year's Wrld Cup.

Nw let's lk urselves as a species in relatin t ecsystem balance.
Mdern scientists believe that humankind, like ther animals, evlved(进化) thrugh millins f years f changes and adaptatins t the envirnment and that ur mst direct evlutinary ancestr was prbably an earlier species f the primate(mnkey, ape) grup. Despite this similarity with ther creatures, hwever, the evlutin f humankind differs frm that f ther species in ne imprtant and unique way.
In ther species, evlutin has led t specializatin, bth in the species abilities and in its place within the envirnmental structure. Fr example, the giraffe is much adapted t feeding n treetps, but it is als specialized and thus limited t feeding n trees and shrubs. Only with great difficulty can it bend dwn t graze n the grund. Similarly, the anteater is extremely well adapted t eating ants but is unable t catch r eat ther animals. The same is true fr cuntless ther species.
Fr humankind it is ppsite. Our evlutin had led t a very generalized ability. Our highly develped intelligence and ability t make and handle tls mean that we can d almst anything. Humans evlved in such a way that we are able t mve int every envirnment n Earth and even int space. N natural cmpetitr ffers great resistance, and ther natural enemies such as disease have been cntrlled.
Said anther way, we see in humankind a great imbalance between bilgical ptential and envirnmental resistance. The result is the rapidly increasing wrld ppulatin, frequently referred t as the ppulatin explsin. Further, t supprt ur grwing ppulatin, natural ecsystems are being increasingly displaced by human habitatins, agriculture, and ther human supprting activities.
72. Frm the passage we can infer that in the curse f evlutin _________.
A. humankind is very imprtant t earlier species, such as the primate grup
B. human beings are limited by the envirnment while animals are nt
C. human beings becme mre and mre different frm each ther
D. humankind has experienced a generalizatin rather than specializatin in ability
73. Accrding t the passage, primate includes such animals as ________.
A. mnkeys and anteaters B. tigers and apes
C. apes and mnkeys D. mnkeys and giraffes
74. Accrding t the passage, evlutin has made it pssible fr humans t _______.
A. increase the ppulatin B. resist natural ffers
C. g t the mn D. cure all diseases
75. Accrding t the authr, imbalance between bilgical ptential and envirn mental resistance has resulted in ________.
A. the ppulatin explsin B. the destructin f human habitatins
C. the grwth f natural ecsystem D. the specializatin f humans
