In Fez, ne f Mrcc’s fur histric capitals, artisans have been creating grgeus handmade wares fr hundreds f years. Read n abut fur fascinating crafts which yu’ll get a chance t see n ne f the Mrcc trips, and be able t take hme with yu at an enviable price.
      Ceramics
Clay frm lcal quarries (采石场) is hammered dwn, rlled ut and pressed hard befre being made int many different frms — plates, bwls and vases. After the clay cntainers are baked in an ven, the artisans begin t paint them with very fine brushstrkes, gracing them with eye-catching gemetric patterns and beautiful designs.
      Leather
Raw animal hides are cleaned, treated, and dyed befre being delivered t the craftsmen, wh wrk the brightly clred sheets f leather int an array f prducts. What is the best way t check if a Mrccan leather item has been prduced in the traditinal way? Just sniff it! If it gives ff the distinctive scent f ammnia (氨), yu knw it’s the real thing.
      Carpets
Near the mud-brick village f Aït Ben Haddu — a UNESCO Wrld Heritage site, the traditin f carpet weaving riginated in Rman times. Wmen weave skillfully, with n written instructins r drawn patterns t fllw. The wner f the shp cmments, “In an Amazigh carpet, yu can read a wman’s entire stry.”
      Msaics
Msaic decratin, r zellige, is ppular in Mrcc; yu’ll find it in restaurants, Muslim temples and palace halls. Zellige prductin begins with quality clay, parallel t its sister craft, pttery, with Fez pssessing the best clay in the wrld. Fllwing firing f wet clay int squares, artisans draw diverse patterns n each piece, which are then glued tgether t frm a
      cmplete sheet f msaic tiles.
Wh is the text mst prbably intended fr?
      Residents f Fez in Mrcc.B. Handcraft-lving travellers.
      C. Traditinal architecture fans.D. Cutting-edge fashin lvers.
Hw can genuine handcrafted leather gds be identified?
By the special sharp smell.B. By the raw material quality.

They are the symbl f wmen’s wisdm.
They feature lcal clay and delicate decratin.
      B
Claire McCardell hated being uncmfrtable. This was true lng befre she became ne f America’s mst famus fashin designers in the 1950s, her influence felt in every wman’s wardrbe, her face n the cver f Time magazine.
When she was just starting ut as a fashin designer, in the 1930s, she went n a ski trip t New Hampshire and ne evening saw a wman called Mrs. Hale shivering in a thin silk dress. Why, McCardell wndered, culdn’t an evening gwn be made ut f smething warmer, s a wman culd actually enjy herself? Befre lng, her warm and practical gwn wn wide ppularity.
McCardell made a career ut f asking such questins, and helped transfrm American fashin in the prcess. She was ften dismissed by her bsses fr her “crazy” ideas. She was tld t keep cpying the latest lks frm Paris, as was custmary in the American clthing industry at the time. But she never abandned it: Wmen deserve t be cmfrtable in their clthes, and in the wrld.
A glance at a list f McCardell’s innvatins prvides a crash curse in just hw limited fashin ptins nce were fr American wmen. McCardell insisted n putting pckets in wmen’s clthing; previusly, pckets were reserved almst exclusively fr men. She partnered with Capezi t ppularize the ballet flat shes and the idea that wmen didn’t always have t wear high-heels. McCardell develped separates: tps and bttms yu culd mix and match s that yu didn’t have t bring heavy dresses fr every ccasin.
Perhaps fashin is better understd nt as art, but as a frm f industrial design. We dn’t knw the name f the man wh invented the ptat peelers, but we benefit frm his effrts at least twice a week. McCardell fught fr recgnitin in her lifetime. She might take a lk at ur mdern clsets, ur pckets, ballet flats and separates, and cnclude that she did enugh, whether we knw her name r nt.
Why des the authr mentin Mrs. Hale’s experience in paragraph 2?
T criticize the unfair scial rules against wmen.
T stress the charm f fashinable evening dresses.
T shw the pr quality f early 20th century clthes.
T present the inspiratin fr McCardell’s design idea.
Which f the fllwing can describe Claire McCardell best?
Cnsiderate and cautius.B. Uncnventinal and persistent.
      C. Stubbrn and mdest.D. Intellectual and graceful.
What is paragraph 4 mainly abut?
McCardell ffered a crash curse in fashin design.
Wmen used t face restrictins in clthing chices.
      McCardell’s innvatins enhanced dressing experience.
McCardell’s designs fcused n functin rather than beauty.
What can be inferred abut Claire McCardell’s design philsphy frm the text?
Frm fllws functin.B. Clthes make the man.
      C. Style is the essence f fashin.D. Beauty is in the eye f the behlder.
      C
Sme sea slugs (蛞蝓) are nature’s clever thieves. Elysia, a marine creature fund in the western Atlantic and Caribbean, is ne f the mst famus examples. When these slugs feed n algae, they extract tiny cell parts called chlrplasts, the structures that let plants make energy frm sunlight. These stlen chlrplasts give the slugs their bright green clr, earning them the nickname “lettuce slug”, and cntinue t prduce energy inside their bdies fr up t a year. Scientists have lng knwn this prcess, called kleptplasty. But hw the slugs keep these stlen parts alive has remained a mystery.
A new study in the jurnal Cell nw prvides answers. Led by bilgists at Harvard University, the research fund that the slugs create special sac-like (囊状的) structures called kleptsmes frm their wn cells t stre the chlrplasts. These sacs prevent the slugs frm digesting the chlrplasts right away, allwing them t use this stred energy when fd is scarce. “It’s like a living larder grwing n their back,” says Crey Allard, the study’s lead authr.
T uncver this mechanism, the scientists used a chemical tag t track new prteins made in the slugs after they ate algae. After six hurs, they extracted the chlrplasts and fund traces f a prtein called Rab7a, which is usually invlved in cells wrapping arund freign bjects. Micrscpe images cnfirmed that each chlrplast was indeed enclsed in a cvering made by the slug.
Further tests shwed the slugs rely n these stlen chlrplasts t survive lng perids withut fd. When cmpared t anther sea slug species that des nt steal chlrplasts, Elysia survived up t fur mnths, while the ther species died after just fur weeks. Starving
slugs gradually digest their stred chlrplasts, turning range as the green substance fades — much like autumn leaves.
These thefts are nt unique t Elysia. Other sea slugs steal stinging cells frm ther sea creatures t defend themselves, and sme even glw after eating crals. Beynd being fascinating, kleptplasty ffers clues t hw cmplex life evlved. It is a living example t shw a prcess where ne rganism lives inside anther, which gave rise t the cells f all plants and animals. Understanding this culd even lead t new medical treatments that give human cells new abilities t fight diseases.
Why is Elysia called “lettuce slug” in paragraph 1?
Because they remain energetic fr a lng time.
Because they feed mainly n fresh and green algae.
Because they lk green due t the stlen chlrplasts.
Because they can make energy frm sunlight like plants.
What is the nature f kleptplasty accrding t the text?
A resurceful survival strategy.B. An essential energy surce.
      C. A cnventinal living habit.D. A fixed genetic feature.
What serves a similar functin as the “living larder” f the sea slugs?
      A digital camera string images.
A street lamp prviding light at night.
A backup battery charging flat devices.
A factry transfrming sunlight int energy.
What des the authr imply in the last paragraph?
Animals can easily acquire ther species’ abilities by eating them.
The study f kleptplasty is f great theretical and practical value.
Research n kleptplasty has led t new treatments fr human diseases.
Kleptplasty ffers a direct explanatin f the rigin f cmplex life cells.

D yu think generating a high-definitin Hllywd blckbuster just by typing sentences, like C-Single 2.0, is already the final frm f vide-generatin large mdels? Hwever realistic the vides prduced by it, they are still passive vides. Ggle Deepmind has launched a game-changer: Prject Genie. Rather than prducing rdinary vides, it creates an interactive, physically simulated ( 模拟的) wrld that users can cntrl directly, with scenes generated instantly. Let’s take an in-depth lk at the amazing algrithmic black technlgy behind it.
Hw are traditinal interactive envirnments r vide games created? They rely n huge sets f cded rules. Prgrammers use physics engines t define gravity and write pre-set instructins t tell the cmputer which animatin t play when a specific user input is received. But Genie takes a cmpletely different apprach. Genie achieves a breakthrugh by prcessing images directly frm pixel ( 像素) t pixel withut written rules. Its cre technlgy lies in
unaided learning f its wn internal rules f peratin. Scientists trained it n 30,000 hurs f nline vides with n extra instructins. First, the mdel turns vide pictures int simple visual units, much like hw we prcess wrds in a sentence. By cmparing pixel differences, it independently discvers hidden driving frces behind mvements. In this way, Genie teaches itself physical rules such as gravity and basic cntrl, shwing that AI can understand the physical wrld thrugh visual bservatins alne.
Genie’s value extends far beynd entertainment. It serves as a lw-cst, high-efficiency virtual training grund fr rbts, enabling AI agents t practice cuntless tasks befre entering the real wrld. It can simulate cities, supprt architectural design, recnstruct histrical scenes, and assist psychlgical treatment by creating safe interactive envirnment. By preparing fully in simulated envirnments, peple can greatly reduce ptential risks and imprve efficiency in real life.
Hwever, it still faces technical barriers. Fr instance, it runs fr a maximum f 60 secnds befre its simulatins start breaking at the edges. With rapid AI develpment, these limitatins are expected t be slved in the near future.
What des the authr think f C-Single 2.0?
      It is still technlgically limited.
It will be replaced by human designers.
It marks the ultimate stage f vide mdels.
It is superir t Prject Genie in vide realism.
What makes Genie different frm traditinal game engines?
It makes use f pre-set instructins fr animatin.
It fails t ffer cntrllable and interactive scenes.
It depends n clear cded rules frm prgrammers.
It learns physical rules thrugh independent visual study.
What can be inferred abut Genie frm paragraph 3?
It is a must fr psychlgical treatment.
It can be widely applied in different fields.
It gets rid f mst ptential risks in daily life.
It prvides efficient rbt training in real life.
Which f the fllwing can be a suitable title fr the text?
Vide Mdel: a New Frntier fr Vide Games
Prject Genie: a New Track fr Vide Generatin
Pixel Analysis: the Key t Self-learning Physical Rules
Virtual Simulatin: Values f Real-wrld Applicatins

End the Cycle f Sleep Anxiety
Nwadays, an increasing number f individuals struggle with insmnia ( 失 眠 ) r difficulty in falling asleep, and feel uneasy abut sleeplessness. That fear f nt being able t sleep is a phenmenn called “sleep anxiety”. 36 Whether yu face regular sleep stress r just the ccasinal trubled night, these practices can help.
      Treat sleep trackers mindfully.
Sleep tracking devices and wearables, which can prvide useful insights int yur sleep quality, are widely ppular. 37 This is because yu may fcus t much n the data frm these devices instead f paying attentin t yur wn actual feelings abut sleep. Thus, it’s imprtant t have a healthy level f skepticism when it cmes t the data and a plan fr what yu will d with it.
      Priritize pre-sleep wind-dwn.
Never try t frce yurself t g t bed at a specific time. 38 This gentle shift can take the frm f unplugging frm screens, putting n cmfrtable clthes and dimming the lights. Any f these can lessen the pressure f trying t fall asleep immediately.
      39
Having a cnsistent wake-up time helps yur bdy recgnize when it’s time t get sleepy. A set wake-up time keeps yur internal clck ticking n time. When yu wake up, yur sleep balln is empty, which is then gradually filled with sleepiness thrughut the day. Once it’s full, yu feel ready t sleep.
Changing sleep-related habits is nly part f the slutin. 40 After all, everyne has restless nights smetimes.
Maintain a fixed daily mrning rhythm.
Wake up early t keep energetic all day.
Indeed, they ffer a full picture f yur sleep.
Left untreated, it rbs yu f truly restful sleep.
Yu als need t embrace the natural variability f sleep.
Pick a time t switch frm daytime t nighttime activities.
Actually, they may stress yu ut and wrsen yur insmnia.

The waiter laid a beautiful plate in frnt f me —— my first wild chice: frg legs! Right there n my plate lay three sets f frg legs. They lked s frightening that my stmach felt a little upset. But with Uncle Le’s encuraging smile, I decided t give it a try. I grabbed ne little leg and gave it a small bite. Then, anther small bite. And then, a huge bite. It was delicius! It was a little like chicken, but better. Mre delicate, mre tender. And the way t enjy it was mre fun! I was eating frg legs, and I was lving them! I invited everyne at the table t take a bite. We were int the adventure f it, and there was n hlding us back. Over the next few hurs, we feasted n all kinds f delicacies: ctpus, bisn, swrdfish, and even starfish. Needless t say, n ne even thught abut the chicken stir fry.
That night frever changed the way I lked at a menu. Whenever I visited a restaurant, the first thing I asked was, “What’s the weirdest thing n this menu?” Bnus pints if it was smething lcal r a chef’s signature creatin. In the fllwing years, I tried mre unusual dishes. They were amazing and I lved them. Uncle Le thught he was just giving us a fun night befre graduatin, but he taught me the pwer f saying “yes” t new things and gastrnmic adventures. He frever changed the way I apprached dining, whether silver service r fast fd. I knew I wuld enrich my life immeasurably if I apprached it with a sense f wnder and discvery, and always challenged myself t try new things.
      Pssible versin 2
The waiter laid a beautiful platter in frnt f me —— my first wild chice: frg legs! My breath caught. They lked s unusual that I felt a little frightened. Yet with Uncle Le’s encuraging smile, I tk a tiny bite nervusly. T my great surprise, they tasted amazing — tender, tasty, and much better than I had expected. I felt prud f my small but brave try. My friends cheered fr me, and the nervus atmsphere at the table gradually disappeared. Later, the waiter brught the dishes ne by ne. We passed the plates t each ther gently, eyes wide with curisity and a little fear. It was the first time that we had tried the fried ctpus, which was crispy n the utside and sft inside. Then came the juicy rasted rabbit meat, tender and fragrant with a light seasning. When we tasted the steamed starfish, it tasted chewy and unique. The creamy baked snails, wrapped in a little butter, were als a nice surprise. N ne felt scared anymre; we chatted, laughed and shared every bite happily, cmpletely frgetting the plain chicken stir-fry we had planned t rder. Every new dish we tried made us braver, and
we enjyed the unusual dining experience t the fullest.
That night ttally changed the way I lked at menus. Frm that day n, whenever I went t a restaurant with my family r friends, I wuld never rush t chse the familiar dishes like chicken stir-fry r hamburgers that I used t lve.
