A lud banging nise suddenly rang ut in the lab. I had recently jined as a Ph. D.student, and I realized I was t blame. When placing tubes int a centrifuge (离心机), I failed t make sure they were perfectly balanced. My mistake was clear the secnd I turned it n. I culdn’t switch it ff until the cycle finished, s I std there, frzen. Then, a senir pstdc tried t cheer me up by saying, “These things happen.” But I culdn’t frgive myself.
I had always been a tp student, and befre I started my graduate prgram, I had already cmpleted medical schl. I expected excellence frm myself. Any misstep, in my view, was a sign that I might nt be cut ut fr this kind f wrk. I tried t avid mre mistakes, but there was n structured curse in my graduate schl, and I was unused t building research wrk.
Mistakes kept piling up: repeated DNA extractin failures, mixed-up results and methds sectins in scientific writing. I was verwhelmed with self-blame, feeling all eyes were n me, judging my incmpetence.
Then, ne night, I had a dream. I knew I was suffering, and I watched myself, with deep sympathy. That dream shwed me smething I hadn’t been able t grasp in waking life: I needed t treat myself with the same pity I wuld ffer a dear friend. I shuld have seen mistakes as part f grwth.
That realizatin led me t change. The shift in mindset made it easier t avid being cnsumed by the weight f failure. I als started t lg my mistakes s I culd learn frm them. I wuld nte whether there was smething I culd have dne differently. Then I wuld mve n. This simple practice helped me a lt.
The reality is, we are all ging t mess up. I nw realize that’s OK, even necessary. “Ding better” cmes frm “ding first”, ften with twists and turns alng the way.

A new study published in Science suggests AI systems’ respnses may disturb peple’s ability t handle interpersnal cnflicts. Scientists fund that when AI chatbts are used fr advice n interpersnal issues, they prfess users’ perspectives much mre ften than humans and even praise clearly prblematic behavirs. This behavir makes users view AI respnses as mre trustwrthy, s they are mre likely t turn t the agreeable AI again fr future interpersnal issues.
Myra Cheng, a university prfessr and lead authr f the study, was inspired after she learned that undergraduates were increasingly using AI t slve relatinship issues. She wrries peple will lse the skills t deal with difficult scial situatins, as AI never tells users they are wrng r ffers the “tugh lve” smetimes needed. While AI is verly agreeable n fact-based questins, few studies have explred hw Large Language Mdels (LLMs) pwering AI judge scial dilemmas (困境).
Cheng’s team evaluated 11 majr LLMs, including ChatGPT and Gemini, using established interpersnal advice datasets. They als presented LLMs with harmful actin statements and tested 2,400 participants wh chatted with bth verly agreeable and bjective AI chatbts. They fund AI supprted users 49% mre ften than humans n average and praised prblematic behavirs 47% f the time; participants judged verly agreeable AI chatbts as mre trustwrthy, enhancing their riginal views.
Researchers claimed this preference may leave develpers unmtivated t fix AI’s sycphancy, creating a harmful feedback circle, where engagement with AI mdels and their training culd enhance such verly agreeable behavir. Additinally, participants culd nt distinguish verly agreeable AI chatbts frm bjective nes, mistakenly thinking they were equally fair. One reasn the researchers cited was that AI’s agreement ften came wrapped in neutral, academic language, making its biased pinin hard t recgnize. The study warns verusing AI fr interpersnal advice may disturb mral grwth and narrw perspectives, as aviding scial cnflicts — easy with AI — is key t healthy relatinships.
8.What des the underlined wrd “prfess” in paragraph 1 prbably mean?
      A.Simplify.B.Back.C.Cntradict.D.Dismiss.
      9.What is Cheng’s cncern?
A.AI is dangerusly replacing human cmmunicatin.
B.Clleges fail t ffer necessary guidance t graduates.
C.Students rely t much n digital prducts in daily study.
D.Peple may gradually lse cmpetence in handling cnflicts.
      10.What is a finding f Cheng’s experiment?
      A.Agreeable AI chatbts are preferred.
B.There is n perfect slutin t scial dilemmas.
C.LLMs are better at slving fact-based prblems.
D.AI mdels prvide mre bjective advice than humans.
11.Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the text?
      A.Risks f AI’s Overly Agreeable Advice
B.A New Study n the Future Develpment f LLMs
C.Ways t Distinguish Biased AI Tls frm Objective Ones
D.The Imprtance f Tugh Lve in Interpersnal Cnflicts
Chinese scientists have develped a digital twin greenhuse system aimed at reducing time and resurce cnsumptin during tmat harvesting, ffering new insights int the intelligent transfrmatin f large-scale precisin agriculture.
Chai Xiujuan, chief scientist f the machine visin and agricultural rbt innvatin team, said the research addresses key challenges in autmated tmat harvesting in greenhuses, including limited camera views, fruit cclusin (遮挡) and cmplex fruiting patterns. “Efficient and lw-damage harvesting was a majr challenge in mdern greenhuse tmat prductin, particularly in dense planting envirnments,” Chai said. “Our study presents a digital twin-driven system fr intelligent tmat harvesting.”
Using a slidable depth camera munted n the harvesting rbt, the team recnstructed a high-fidelity 3D digital twin f the greenhuse that accurately captures the spatial distributin and grwth states f tmates. Based n this virtual envirnment, the researchers develped a learning-based framewrk t develp better harvesting strategies, including rbt psitining, fruit selectin pririty and adaptive peratin mdes.
Experimental results shwed that the methd significantly imprved harvesting perfrmance, reducing average picking time by nearly 35 percent t 7.4 secnds per fruit, while cllisin (碰撞) ccurrences drpped by 45 percent.
“Traditinally, a depth camera is fixed n the rbtic arm t capture the picking view and make harvesting decisins,” Lang Yining, a team member, said. “Hwever, such decisins are usually based nly n the lcal field f view frm the current camera psitin, which may cntain just a few tmates. In ur apprach, a depth camera munted n a sliding rail scans dynamically t recnstruct the verall structure f the greenhuse plants. This creates a digital twin f the entire tmat-grwing envirnment and gives the picking decisin algrithm (算法) a much brader scpe.”
Next, the team plans t further explre the use f digital twin technlgy t simulate (模拟) the grwth and harvesting envirnments f mre crp varieties, enabling lw-cst and high-efficiency training and evaluatin f harvesting decisin algrithms.
12.What is the digital twin greenhuse system intended t d?
      A.Change the way tmates grw.
B.Imprve the efficiency f tmat harvesting.
C.Increase the utput f tmates in greenhuses.
D.Reduce the space tmates take up in greenhuses.
13.What des Chai mainly talk abut in paragraph 2?
A.The significance f ppularizing precisin agriculture.
B.The future plan fr intelligent tmat prductin.
C.The prblems the new system manages t slve.
D.The wide use f rbts in tmat planting.
14.What can we infer abut the slidable depth camera?
A.It can identify diseased plants precisely.
B.It helps build a virtual mdel f the greenhuse.
C.It wrks better than traditinal cameras in pr light.
D.It cllects infrmatin abut specific tmat plants faster.
15.What is an advantage f the new apprach?
A.It saves humans frm harvesting labr.
B.It csts much less t develp and perate.
C.It speeds up the grwth f tmat plants.
      D.It prvides a wider view fr decisin-making.
It is surprising that the peple we lve mst are ften the hardest t be emtinally hnest with. As a therapist, I meet many clients wh can express their frustratins freely twards friends, yet becme highly reserved when discussing family issues. ____16____ They tend t highlight their parents’ sacrifices and hide their wn unpleasant feelings.
This emtinal suppressin (压抑) stems nt frm the emtins themselves, but frm the mral meanings attached t them. Many families are influenced by traditinal values like respect fr elders and family harmny. As a result, peple ften sften their feelings, justify their parents’ behavir, and remind themselves that their parents “did their best.” ____17____ Many adults hld cnflicting emtins — gratitude and resentment, lve and disappintment — yet feel frced t deny these cmplexities.
____18____ Western psychlgy ften praises emtinal independence and clear persnal bundaries as healthy. Hwever, in many ther cultures, persnal identity is deeply rted in family relatinships. Parental emtins strngly influence their children even in adulthd, and such emtinal clseness is regarded as a nrmal expressin f care and respnsibility rather than unhealthy dependence.
As peple mature, they begin t see parents as imperfect individuals shaped by their wn struggles and limitatins. This shift can be relieving but als uncmfrtable, as acknwledging parental weaknesses may feel unacceptable in traditinal cntexts. ____19____
In wrking thrugh these feelings, ne grws mre understanding — f neself and f ne’s parents. Grieving (为……而悲伤) unmet needs des nt destry lve but clarifies it. ____20____ Instead, it means we can hld lve, gratitude and hurt in the same relatinship and make ur family emtinal stry mre cmplete.
A.They seldm shw their real emtins t thers.
B.Emtinal maturity lies nt in separating frm family.
C.Cultural differences in family bundaries further cmplicate this issue.
D.It is strngly advised that peple hide their negative feelings twards parents.
E.Mst peple find it easy t balance lyalty and hnesty in family relatinships.
F.This is nt indifference but an attempt t prtect the precius parent-child bnd.
G.Hwever, accepting this helps let g f unrealistic expectatins and gain inner freedm.

I stared sadly at the bills spread acrss the kitchen table. The pile, grwing larger and mre depressing every day, ttally cnsumed my thughts. I felt hpeless as I pened anther envelpe and saw the bld red letters — “Past Due”. With a frustrated sigh, I threw the bill back, murmuring helplessly.
This had been my life since my husband Bill died and I lst my wrk the year befre: dealing with past-dues and final ntices until I brke dwn in tears, and trying t decide which bills had t be paid immediately and which culd be delayed. I was terrified t answer the phne, fearing it was a cllectin agency threatening t take my car r cut ff my electricity. Yet I dared nt ignre it. Trapped in such a dilemma, I felt deeply ashamed and just wanted t hide in bed. I had t struggle t survive, but I had already lst hpe f pulling thrugh.
