Ever wnder what happens t spacecraft after they get launched t space? Well, that is where my jb as an instrument peratins engineer cmes in. My jb cnsists f planning, generating, and perating scientific instruments in-flight. I am grateful fr having wrked n missins at Saturn, the Mn, and ur wn planet Earth.
When I was a high-schler, I was unsure f what cllege I wanted t attend, r what majr I wanted t chse. After receiving an email frm a cllege called Massachusetts Institute f Technlgy (MIT), I decided t apply t a summer prgram they were ffering with the encuragement f my mm. After participating in that prgram, I knew that MIT was the right university fr me. The passinate students and bundless pprtunities develped a feeling f belnging in me that led me t apply and eventually get accepted.
The mst exciting and fulfilling part f being an engineer is that I am able t wrk n prjects that benefit humanity. When peple think f the space industry, they picture the uter reaches f ur slar system. What they may nt imagine is the great bdy f wrk being dne t study ur wn hme-Earth. I am thankful t have a career that allws me t cmmit myself t that respnsibility.
The highlight f my career has been witnessing the end f the Cassini missin t Saturn. Sme f the peple n the team had been wrking n the missin fr lnger than I had been alive, but they still treated me as ne f their wn. I was given the pprtunity t perate the cameras that wuld catch breathtaking images f the planet. And when the Cassini spacecraft had run ut f fuel, I quickly learned that it was nt just the end f the missin, but the end f a team. The night we watched with bittersweet lnging as its signal faded t nthing is smething that I will always keep in my memries. And while Cassini will be remembered fr its histric cntributins, what I will remember it fr is the team it brught tgether.
My friends ften ask why a girl culd achieve all these. I always grew up a big fan f fictin. I read the Harry Ptter bks and lved anything fantasy. I realized that a cmmn theme f her stries is that the her must always make a chice t start their adventure. If yu dn't pick up the swrd in yur wn stry because yu are afraid f what may happen next, yu risk nt having a stry at all.
      24. Why did the authr apply t MIT?
      A. The majrs in MIT interested her.B. Her mther urged her t g t MIT.

Have yu ever been indecisive in the decisin f what clr car yu like? Last Nvember, a magazine with great influence revealed its annual list f the Best Inventins, which are changing hw we live, wrk, play, and think abut what's pssible. One f these inventins was the "clr changing car".
At the 2022 Cnsumer Electrnics Shw, a famus car cmpany shwcased a cncept car that can change clrs. The surface cating f this car features e-ink that is mst well-knwn frm the displays f e-readers. It cntains many millins f micr-capsules, each f which cntains negatively charged white pigments (颜料) and psitively charged black pigments. Depending n the chsen setting, stimulatin by means f an electrical field causes either the white r the black pigments t cllect at the surface f the micr-capsule, giving the car bdy the desired shade.
The clr chsen fr a car is an expressin f the driver's persnalities. It ffers a cmpletely new way f changing the vehicle's appearance in line with the driver's preferences, the envirnmental cnditins r even functinal requirements.
A variable exterir clr can cntribute t energy saving and wellness in the interir. This is dne by taking int accunt the different abilities f light and dark clrs when it cmes t reflecting sunlight and the assciated absrptin f thermal energy. Heating f the vehicle as a result f strng sunlight and high utside temperatures can be reduced by changing the exterir t a light clr. In cler weather, a dark uter skin will help the vehicle t absrb nticeably mre warmth frm the sun. This wuld reduce the amunt f energy the vehicle electrical system needs, lwering the fuel r electricity cnsumptin. In the interir, the technlgy culd, fr example, prevent the dashbard frm heating up t much. In electric cars, changing the clr with the weather wuld thus increase the range f the car. Cnsidering the recent push fr electric vehicles, this clr changing technlgy culd be a game-changer.
"Digital experiences wn't just be limited t displays in the future. There will be mre and mre cnnectin between the real and virtual. With this cncept car, we are bringing the car bdy t life, "says Frank Weber, a member f the bard f this cmpany.
      28. The cncept car can change clrs mainly because f ________.
      A. the reflectin f sunlightB. the stability f electrical field
      C. the area f white and black e-inkD. the gathering f charged pigments
      29. As fr the clr changing car, which wuld the authr agree with?
      A. It will be put int mass prductin in the near future.
      B. It can change clrs autmatically accrding t weather.
      C. It can shw persnalities and imprve car perfrmance.
      D. It will save energy by transfrming heat int electrical energy.
      30. Which wuld be the best title fr the passage?
      A. Car Design: New ChallengesB. The Develpment f Car Exterir
      C. Magical E-ink in Car DesignD. New Inventin f Cars: Tailred Exterir
      D
D yu knw frests are ne f ur planet's greatest carbn sinks? This means that they absrb an enrmus amunt f carbn released int the atmsphere, a greenhuse gas that cntributes t climate change and the earth's rising temperature.
The pplar tree, standing tall and regal, is knwn fr its fast-grwing nature and its gray, white, r black bark. A bitechnlgy firm in San Francisc, CA, genetically mdified pplar trees. Accrding t a fur-mnth study cnducted in their greenhuse, the engineered trees grew 53% larger than their nrmal cunterparts and stred 27% mre CO2. In February 2023, the cmpany als planted mdified pplar trees in suthern Gergia. This marks the first time in the United States that engineered trees have been planted utside f a cntrlled lab setting!
All plants experience phtsynthesis (光合作用), where sunlight, water, and CO2 are transfrmed int glucse and xygen. Hwever, almst all trees release a pisnus substance in the prcess. T remve this substance, trees must use up newly-prduced energy in anther step knwn as pht-respiratin (光呼吸作用), which des nt prduce any energy and releases CO2 back int the atmsphere. T prevent plants frm wasting their energy, the bitechnlgy firm engineered their pplar trees with genes fund in green algae. First tested in tbacc plants, the freign genes change the pisnus substance prduced by trees int sugars, s that mre energy can be used fr remving carbn and tree grwth.
Researchers frm the cmpany are planting their pplar trees n private land that has been previusly disturbed, such as abandned cal mines in Pennsylvania. The mdified trees will be planted between natives like sweet gum and bald cypress t bst bidiversity and maintain sil fertility (肥沃).
Plant bilgist Nrbert Martinez frm the University f Illinis suggests the engineered pplar trees may nt thrive utdrs r will require mre water and fertilizer t maintain their fast grwth. Many sustainable frestry rganizatins have als banned engineered trees frm being planted in frests. The Glbal Justice Eclgy Prject argued that these trees culd interfere with effrts t prtect and regenerate frests.
Thugh there may be ppsing pinins regarding genetically mdified pplar trees, ne thing is fr sure: they hld the ptential t lwer greenhuse gases in ur envirnment at a faster rate. This cmpany's attempt is certainly an innvative apprach t the nging climate crisis.
      31. What is Paragraph 3 mainly abut?
      A. The necessity t absrb CO2.B. The basic idea behind engineered trees.
      C. The effect f phtsynthesis n plants.D. The imprtance f energy transfrmatin.
      32. What des the underlined phrase "interfere with" in Paragraph 5 prbably mean?
      A. Save.B. Measure.C. Interrupt.D. Strengthen.
      33. What can we infer abut the engineered pplar trees?
      A. Their first planting state was Pennsylvania.
      B. Their ptential t absrb CO2 utweighs cncerns.
      C. They can release mre xygen than nrmal pplar trees.
      D. They will grw better if planted away frm nrmal plants.
      34. The main purpse f the passage is t ________.
      A. infrm and argueB. analyse and adviseC. argue and discussD. examine and assess
      第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)
      根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Cmmunin is a very difficult art. T cmmune with ne anther ver many prblems that we have requires listening and learning, which are bth very difficult t d. 35 T cmmune with each ther, we require a certain capacity, a certain way f listening-nt merely t gather infrmatin, which any schlby can d, but rather listening in rder t understand.
36 Learning is nt merely the accumulatin (积累) f knwledge. Knwledge never changes the way yu think; experience never flwers int the beauty f understanding. Mst f us listen with the backgrund f what we knw and we have experienced. Perhaps yu have never nticed the difference between the mind that really learns and the mind that merely gathers knwledge.
37 It is always translating what it hears in terms f its wn experience r in terms f the knwledge which it has gathered. It is caught up in the prcess f accumulating and adding t what it already knws, and such a mind is incapable f learning. I d nt knw if yu have nticed this. S it seems t me very imprtant that we cmmune with each ther quietly, in a dignified manner, and fr that there must be a listening and a learning.
When yu cmmune with yur wn heart, when yu cmmune with yur friend, when yu cmmune with the skies, with the stars, with the sunset, with a flwer, then surely yu are listening s as t learn. It des nt mean that yu accept r deny. 38 When yu cmmune with the sunset, with a friend, with yur wife r with yur child, yu d nt criticize, yu d nt deny r supprt, translate r identify. Yu are cmmuning. Yu are learning. Yu are searching ut. 39
I think it is imprtant t understand that a man wh accumulates can never learn. Self-learning implies a fresh and eager mind-a mind that is nt cmmitted, that des nt belng t anything and that is nt limited t any particular field. It is nly such a mind that learns.
      A. Mst f us hardly listen, and we hardly learn.
      B. Here is a persnal stry that illustrates this difference.
C The mind that is accumulating knwledge never learns.
      D. Hw can we make the shift frm accumulating t learning?
      E. It seems t me f the utmst imprtance that we d listen in rder t learn.
      F. Frm this inquiry cmes the mvement f learning, which is never accumulative.
      C. Yu are learning and either acceptance r denial f what is being said puts an end t learning.
