A Chinese research team has develped the wrld’s first bld-based diagnstic kit (诊断试剂盒) that can tell whether lung ndules (肺结节) are harmless r cancerus, including very small ndules that are ften difficult t assess using existing methds. Researchers say the breakthrugh culd significantly imprve early detectin f lung cancer.
Lung cancer is the deadliest cancer in China, largely because many cases are discvered at an advanced stage. Early symptms are ften mild r absent, delaying diagnsis and treatment.
Lw-dse CT scans are widely used t screen peple at high risk, such as smkers r thse with a family histry f lung cancer. Patients must underg repeated fllw-up scans, and studies shw that fewer than 30 percent are able t cmply with lng-term mnitring.
Using techniques frm synthetic bilgy and artificial intelligence, researchers analyzed cmplex bld samples and screened mre than 400 prteins linked t early stage lung cancer. Frm these, they identified 13 bimarkers that are mst useful fr diagnsis. Eight f the bimarker cmbinatins are newly discvered and perfrm significantly better than existing clinical standards in China and verseas, accrding t the team.
Results shwed the kit detected mre than 65 percent f early-stage lung cancer cases, with accuracy significantly higher than traditinal diagnstic methds. Fr small ndules that are ften difficult t assess using lw-dse CT scans alne, the test increased diagnstic accuracy t mre than 85 percent. The bld test csts abut 1,000 yuan ($144) and requires nly 2 milliliters f bld. Researchers say this makes testing easier fr elderly r physically weakened patients, while als reducing fllw-up csts.
“This marks a majr step frward in early lung cancer diagnsis in China, shifting screening frm relying n imaging alne t detecting mlecular signals in the bld,” Hu said. He added that the team hpes t expand use f the test t cmmunity clinics and health screening centers, greatly increasing early detectin rates cuntrywide.
32. What is the key functin f the new diagnstic kit?
A. T imprve the imaging effect f CT scans.
B. T reduce the risk f lung cancer surgeries.
C. T cut the cst f lung cancer fllw-up checks.
D. T identify the nature f lung ndules accurately.
33. What des the underlined phrase “cmply with” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Stick t B. Give up C. Put ff D. Apply fr
34. What des paragraph 4 mainly talk abut?
A. The applicatin f the market. B. The prcess f the research.
C. The standard f the diagnsis. D. The clinical effect f the kit.
35. What can we infer frm the kit’s clinical trial results?
A. It has replaced traditinal diagnstic methds.
B. It perfrms best fr advanced lung cancer cases.
C. It wrks better fr small hard-t-assess ndules.
D. It detects all early lung cancers with full accuracy.
