In a small wrkshp tucked away in the hills f The Gambia, 72-year-ld Amadu Sillah runs his fingers
alng the strings f a half-finished kra (科拉琴). His hands mve with the cnfidence f decades, but his eyes
carry a quiet sadness. He is ne f the last master craftsmen f this traditinal West African instrument, and he fears
his art may die with him.
Fr centuries, the kra has been the heart f West African strytelling. Its 21 strings, stretched acrss a large
gurd, prduce a sund that blends the cmplexity f a harp with the rhythm f a lute. Learning t build ne
traditinally tk seven years, passed frm father t sn. “The kra is nt just wd and strings,” Sillah explains,
wiping dust frm his wrkbench. “It is memry. It is histry.”
Yet glbalizatin and shifting tastes have pushed the instrument t the edge. Many yung Gambians nw
prefer imprted electrnic keybards r western pp music. Wrse still, the shrtage f halep — the sacred tree
whse wd prduces the best resnance — has made authentic kras increasingly difficult t craft.
But a new initiative may ffer a lifeline. Last year, a British ethnmusiclgist launched the “Kra Digital
Prject”, wrking with Sillah t create 3D-printed mdels based n his designs. These replicas, made frm
      第 4页/共 12页
sustainable materials, are being distributed t schls acrss West Africa. Mre imprtantly, the prject is
recrding Sillah’s techniques and ral histry in high-definitin vide, creating a digital archive fr future
      generatins.
“I never thught I’d see a kra made by a machine,” Sillah chuckles, examining a 3D-printed prttype. “But
if it means the music lives n, then perhaps this ld dg can learn new tricks.” He picks up the replica, plucks a
string, and listens. The nte rings true.
      24. What can be inferred abut the traditinal kra-making craft?
      A. It is easy t learn within mnths.
      B. It is disappearing due t high csts.
      C. It faces challenges frm bth culture and materials.
      D. It has been fully replaced by mdern technlgy.
      25. What des the wrd “halep” in Paragraph 3 refer t?
      A. A musical scale.
      B. A teaching methd.
      C. A type f tree.
      D. A cultural ceremny.
      26. What des the “Kra Digital Prject” mainly d?
      A. It sells kras t Western musicians.
      B. It trains yung peple t build kras.
      C. It recrds and preserves the craft digitally.
      D. It replaces traditinal kras with plastic nes.
      27. What is Sillah’s attitude tward the digital prject?
      A. Hesitant but pen t change. B. Skeptical and unwilling.
      C. Enthusiastic and fully supprtive. D. Indifferent and uncncerned.

Researchers at the University f Hustn have achieved a grundbreaking milestne in science, shwing that
brn arsenide (BAs) (砷化硼) can utperfrm diamnd in thermal cnductivity (热导率).
Thrugh develping exceptinally pure BAs crystals (晶体), the team measured thermal cnductivity mre
than 2,100 W/mK at rm temperature. This result nt nly exceeds previus experimental data but als breaks the
theretical ceiling f apprximately 1,360 W/mK. The study challenges existing theretical mdels f heat
      第 5页/共 12页
transprt in slids. Prfessr Zhifeng Ren, the crrespnding authr, stated: “We trust ur measurement; ur data is
crrect and that means the thery needs crrectin.”
The discvery f the superir thermal cnductivity f BAs was the result f dedicated investigatin. In 2013,
Bstn Cllege physicists predicted that BAs culd cnduct heat as efficiently as diamnd. Hwever, revised
mdels in 2017 with a cmplex factr dramatically reduced predicted perfrmance t arund 1,360 W/mK. This
caused many in the field t abandn the idea that BAs culd exceed diamnd’s cnductivity. Ren’s grup, hwever,
suspected the prblem wasn’t a lack f a fundamental prperty f the material, but the presence f impurities within
it. By prcessing raw materials and develping imprved prductin methds, the UH-led team created BAs
crystals with significantly fewer imperfectins. When tested, these high-purity samples shwed a recrd-breaking
      thermal cnductivity abve 2,100 W/mK.
The implicatins f this breakthrugh extend far beynd labratry measurements. BAs has the ptential t
revlutinize electrnics and semicnductr technlgy. Cmpared t diamnd, it ffers easier, mre cst-effective
manufacturing withut the need fr extreme temperature r pressure. Its high carrier mbility suggests ptentially
      superir electrnic advantages ver silicn.
This cllabrative research pens new pssibilities fr advanced thermal management in next-generatin
electrnics, frm smartphnes t high-pwer applicatins and data centers. Althugh this discvery marks a new
frntier, the wrk is nging. Prfessr Ren encurages the scientific cmmunity t recnsider existing mdels,
nting: “Yu shuldn’t let a thery prevent yu frm discvering smething even bigger, and this exactly happened
      in this wrk.”
      28. What led Prfessr Ren t say that “the thery needs crrectin”?
      A. The initial mdels. B. The cnfirmed results.
      C. The revised predictins. D. The cmmn explanatins.
      29. What is the key t achieving remarkable thermal cnductivity in BAs?
      A. Exceptinal purity. B. Slid structure.
      C. Cnstant temperature. D. Extreme pressure.
      30. Hw des the authr pint ut the advantages f BAs in paragraph 4?
      A. By defining a cncept. B. By giving examples.
      C. By making a cmparisn. D. By prviding statistics.
      31. What can be inferred abut the future f BAs?
      A. Its prperty will remain questinable.
      第 6页/共 12页
      B. Its cst will becme the main cncern.
      C. Its advantages may ensure quick acceptance.
      D. Its ptential may grw with further research.

AI image generatrs have made a giant leap frward in a remarkably shrt perid. These highly-develped
systems are nw capable f creating human faces that are nt nly cnvincing but ften perceived as mre realistic
than actual human nes. This phenmenn, termed “hyper-realism”, pses a significant challenge t digital trust.
Hwever, a recent cllabrative study by researchers frm the UK pints t a prmising path: imprving ur
cllective AI-face detectin capabilities thrugh specialized, targeted training.
The research team tested the face-assessing skills f 664 vlunteers, categrized int tw distinct grups:
“super-recgnizers” — individuals wh pssess a rare, naturally superir ability fr facial recgnitin — and
thse with typical recgnitin skills. The experiment invlved tw cre tasks designed t test intuitin (直觉) and
lgic. In the initial task, vlunteers evaluated a single image t determine its rigin; in the subsequent task, they
were presented with a pair f faces — ne real and ne artificial — and asked t identify the fake.
In the cntrl grup that received n prir instructin, the data revealed a wrrying trend. Super-recgnizers
crrectly identified AI faces nly 41 percent f the time, while typical recgnizers drpped t a mere 31 percent.
Given that half the images were AI-generated, bth grups perfrmed significantly wrse than randm chance (50
percent). This statistical gap cnfirms that AI prtraits can effectively trick the human brain’s natural prcessing
      systems.
T cunter this, the study intrduced a brief five-minute interventin. Participants were trained t lk fr
“tell-tale” signs — fine bilgical imperfectins such as unnatural teeth alignment r strange blurring where the
      hair meets the skin.
Fllwing this sessin, the accuracy f super-recgnizers bsted t 64 percent. In cntrast, while typical
recgnizers imprved t 51 percent, they remained at the level f a cin flip.
“As AI images are increasingly explited fr illegal purpses like identity theft scams (骗局), testing detectin
methds is crucial frm a security perspective”, explains researcher EilidhNyes. The findings highlight that while
technlgy evlves, human expertise remains irreplaceable. Cmbining natural talent with prfessinal training
may be ur best defence in cnfirming digital identities and securing the future f nline interactin.
      32. The study mainly examines participants’ ________.
      A. lgical reasning B. reactin speed
      第 7页/共 12页
      C. technical knwledge D. bservatinal skills
      33. What is the meaning f “cunter” in paragraph 4?
      A. T apprve f. B. T argue against.
      C. T act in ppsitin t. D. T examine in detail.
      34. What is the significance f the 64 percent accuracy rate mentined in paragraph 5?
      A. It cnfirms the ptential f cmbining gift with practice.
      B. It represents the maximum limit f human recgnitin.
      C. It shws the similarity between human and AI.
      D. It indicates that mst peple can be trained t spt false images.
      35. What can be inferred frm the last paragraph?
      A. Technical evlutin will eventually eliminate identity theft
      B. Prfessinal training is mre essential than natural talent.
      C. Human factrs remain a critical layer in digital defense.
      D. The security risks f AI are currently verestimated.

Neurscience ffers a clue: ur brains are wired t prtect ur sense f being a “gd persn.” ____37____ A
similar phrase is “I had n chice”, which als allws us t avid facing the cmplexity f ur decisins.
____38____ In the days that fllwed, he culdn’t shake the guilt. He replayed the drive endlessly in his mind,
and gradually, a different truth emerged: he had been tired, he’d taken a shrtcut that he knew was prly lit, and
he had been checking a text message just mments befre. ____39____ In the end, he psted abut the incident
nline, n lnger calling it an “accident”, and even made a dnatin t a lcal animal rescue.
His stry reveals a crucial truth: accidents are ften the result f a series f chices we make rather than pure
randmness. In ur daily life, we use “it is an accident” cnstantly. ____40____ Mre ften than nt, we cannt
blame the rain, the cat’s sudden dash, r any ther external factr — there are n real excuses. Instead, we must
separate chices frm accidents. True respnsibility lies in acknwledging ur chices.
