With all ur mdern educatin and technlgy, we might think we’re smarter than peple brn a century ag. But are we really?

A new study has fund that peple brn in the 1970s had a 6.6% larger brain vlume (容量) and 15% larger brain surface than thse brn in the 1930s. Accrding t the research team, it’s pssible that larger brains culd reduce the risk f age-related dementia — a gradual decline (衰退) in memry, thinking, behavir and scial skills.

The study’s first authr Charles DeCarli said larger brain structures may reflect imprved brain develpment and imprved brain health. He added, “A larger brain structure represents a larger brain reserve (储备).” This means the brain might be better able t deal with the damage that cmes with getting lder. This culd help reduce the risk f age-related brain diseases like Alzheimer’s (阿尔茨海默病), DeCarli pinted ut.
The number f peple living with Alzheimer’s in the US has been increasing since the 1970s, as the ppulatin has grwn and aged. But as a percentage f ppulatin, the rate has actually been decreasing by 20% per decade.
DeCarli thinks larger brains may have had an effect n this trend, but further research is required.
48. What is the writer’s purpse f raising a questin in Paragraph 1?
A. T stress the imprtance f educatin.
B. T lead readers t the tpic f the passage.
C. T tell us t make gd use f mdern technlgy.
D. T discuss what peple were like a century ag.
49 Charles DeCarli agrees that ________.
A. a bigger brain will cause diseases easily.
B. a larger brain structure is helpful fr ur health.
C. the larger ur brains are, the smarter we will becme.
D. the brain size f three generatins f participants hasn’t changed.
50. What can we infer (推断) frm the passage?
A. Our brains are getting bigger and maybe healthier.
B. Scientists find new ways t prtect us frm brain diseases.
C. Mre and mre peple are suffering frm Alzheimer’s in the US.
D. Peple’s brain structures in the 1970s are different frm thse in the 1930s.
