When I was twelve, my grandmther gave me an unusual task: t water her garden nt with a hse (水管), but
with a small, bent tin cup. “The hse is t fast,” she said, adjusting her straw hat. “It desn’t knw when t stp.
The cup makes yu lk at every leaf.”
I grumbled, naturally. It tk an hur t water what culd have been dne in ten minutes. I marched back and
frth t the rain bucket, splashing water nt the thirsty sil. But as the weeks passed, the frced slwness began t
change things. I started nticing the small dramas f the garden: the determined climb f a ladybug, the slight drp
f a begnia (秋海棠) that needed extra care, the way the sil darkened when it had truly had enugh t drink.
One afternn, I fund a ccn (茧) attached t a tmat vine. If I had been blasting away with the hse, I
wuld have kncked it ff. Instead, I sat and watched. Over the next few days, I saw the miracle f transfrmatin.
When the butterfly finally emerged, drying its wings in the sun, I felt a sense f wnership. I hadn’t just watered a
plant; I had prtected a life.
Years later, wrking as a high-speed data analyst, I ften felt verwhelmed by the cnstant flw f infrmatin.
It was like the hse — t fast, t much, blindly cvering everything. One day, stressed and burnt ut, I
remembered the tin cup. I turned ff my mnitrs and printed ut just ne cmplex dataset. I sat with it, pencil in
hand, lking at every “leaf” f data.
My bss was skeptical f my slw pace, until I fund a critical errr that the autmated algrithms had missed.
“Hw did yu spt that?” he asked. I smiled, thinking f the tmat vine. “I stpped using the hse,” I said.
      24. Why did the grandmther ask the authr t water the garden with a tin cup?
      A. T save water during a drught.
      B. T punish the authr fr laziness.
      C. T encurage the authr’s patience.
      D. T replace the brken hse.
      25. What des “the small dramas f the garden” refer t in the secnd paragraph?
      A. The cnflicts between different plants.
      B. The subtle and lively details f nature.
      C. The fascinating behavirs f garden creatures.
      D. The plays perfrmed in the garden.

      C. It inspired him t take up gardening.
      D. It taught him t appreciate physical wrk.
      27. Which is a suitable title fr the text?
      A. The Jy f Slw Living B. A Lessn frm the Tin Cup
      C. The Challenge f Data Analysis D. The Way f Watering the Garden
      C
In ecnmics, there is a well-knwn idea called “signaling.” It explains why peple ften take seemingly
unnecessary r expensive actins just t send a clear message. A cmmn example is a university degree. Sme
ecnmists believe that a degree des nt directly prve that yu have jb-related skills. Instead, the difficult
prcess f getting it — ging t classes, finishing hmewrk, and passing exams — shws emplyers that yu
are disciplined, intelligent, and able t stick t lng-term gals.
Hwever, in the digital age, signaling is facing a truble defined as “cheap talk.” In the past, sending a reliable
signal required real effrt. Writing a letter by hand tk time and care, and publishing a bk needed strict review
and prfessinal supprt. These csts wrked as filters, making sure nly valuable messages reached thers. Tday,
things have changed greatly. Anyne can create a perfect life n scial media r prduce a gd essay with AI in
secnds. When signals are cheap and easy t make, they gradually lse their ability t tell real ability frm false
      appearance.
This drp in cstly signals creates a widespread prblem: “nise.” When everyne sends perfect, artificial
messages at the same time, the result is chas, and n ne stands ut. Emplyers receive thusands f similar,
well-designed resumes. Cnsumers are flded with verly psitive five-star reviews that may be fake r prduced
      by tls.
In this situatin, the future f trust is surprising: we may start valuing “cstly” signals again. We may prefer
experiences and effrts that are hard t cpy: live shws instead f recrded nes, face-t-face interviews instead f
nline prtflis, and natural talks instead f prepared speeches. In a wrld f artificial perfectin, real, unplished,
and difficult-t-cpy human effrt may becme the new valuable quality. “Frictin,” nce seen as bad fr
efficiency, culd becme the best prf f authenticity in a wrld full f cheap signals.
      28. What des a university degree signal t emplyers accrding t sme ecnmists?
      A. Essential persnal qualities. B. Relevant wrk experience.
      C. Jb-specific technical skills. D. High academic perfrmance.
      29. Why des the authr mentin “cheap talk” in the secnd paragraph?
      A. T highlight AI’s impact n jb markets.
      B. T criticize the decline in cmmunicatin quality.
      C. T illustrate hw easy it is t fake cmpetence tday.
      D. T encurage peple t write mre handwritten letters.
      30. What may be valued in the future t rebuild trust?
      A. Authentic human effrt. B. AI-assisted applicatin.
      C. Prfessinally designed nline prtflis. D. Well-prepared interviews scripts.
      31. What is the text mainly abut?
      A. The histry f ecnmic signaling.
      B. The crisis and future f signaling.
      C. The impact f digital tls n signaling.
      D. The value f university degrees.
      D
The Namib Desert beetle is a master f water cllectin. Living in ne f the driest places n Earth, it survives
by leaning its back int the wind. Its shell has a unique texture — bumps (隆起) that attract water (hydrphilic)
and valleys that repel water (hydrphbic). Fg cndenses n the bumps, frms drplets, and then slides dwn the
waxy valleys int the beetle’s muth.
Scientists and engineers are nw mimicking this beetle t slve glbal water shrtages. This field, knwn as
bimimicry, lks t nature’s 3.8 billin years f “R&D” (research and develpment) fr slutins t mdern
      prblems.
A team at a majr technlgical institute has develped a “fg-harvesting” net based n the beetle’s shell.
Traditinal fg nets are inefficient; they ften lse water that is blwn away by the wind. The new design, hwever,
uses a pattern f chemical catings t trap and channel water efficiently. In field tests in Chile, these new nets
cllected three times mre water than standard versins.
The ptential applicatins g beynd just drinking water. These surfaces culd be used in pwer plants t
recapture steam escaping frm cling twers, saving billins f gallns f water and energy. They culd als be
applied t self-cleaning slar panels, where cndensatin wuld wash away dust withut using a precius water
      supply.
      Hwever, the challenge lies in scalability. Creating a beetle-inspired surface in a lab is ne thing;
manufacturing it cheaply by the square mile is anther. Current prductin methds are expensive and require txic
chemicals. Researchers are nw explring ec-friendly 3D printing techniques t vercme this hurdle. If
successful, the humble desert beetle culd be the key t quenching the wrld’s thirst.
      32. Hw des the Namib Desert beetle cllect water?
      A. By cllecting mrning drew n its leg.
      B. By absrbing misture thrugh its shell.
      C. By using its back’s specific texture t trap fg.
      D. By string rainwater in a special internal puch.
      33. What des the underlined wrd “mimicking” in Paragraph 2 prbably mean?
      A. Rescuing. B. Capturing.
      C. Observing. D. Cpying.
      34. What can be inferred frm the “fg-harvesting” net?
      A. Traditinal fg nets were abandned. B. Beetle’s shell has been widely used.
      C. Pwer plants mainly rely n this tech. D. The new nets shw great prmise.
      35. What’s the main challenge fr the beetle-inspired technlgy?
      A. Harmful effects f 3D printing techniques. B. Lack f ec-friendly raw materials.
      C. Difficulty in mass prductin. D. Unsatisfactry results in early field tests.
Many peple struggle with perfectinism in their daily life, firmly cnvinced that struggling fr perfectin is
the nly path t lasting success and recgnitin. 36 In the lng run, it gradually gives rise t verwhelming
pressure, cnstant self-dubt and even a fear f taking risks that may limit persnal develpment.
T free yurself frm the cntrl f perfectinism, yu shuld adjust yur mindset fundamentally. 37
On the cntrary, recgnize that errrs are unavidable stepping stnes that fuel grwth and prgress, and making
mistakes never weakens yur persnal wrth.
38 Nt every assignment r detail deserves yur full energy and pursuit f perfectin. Direct yur time
and energy nly t truly significant matters. By ding s, yu can avid wasting effrts n unimprtant things and
cncentrate n tasks that bring real value.
Setting practical and achievable gals is anther effective strategy wrth applying. 39 Gals that are
ut f reach will nly bring repeated frustratin, while dwn-t-earth gals bring a steady sense f accmplishment
      and mtivatin.
Last but nt least, practice gentle self-talk and self-acceptance. When yu face failures r imperfectins, speak
t yurself the way yu wuld cmfrt a clse friend. 40 Critical and sharp self-judgment nly tears dwn
yur cnfidence, while self-cmpassin builds inner strength.
Letting g f perfectinism is nt a ne-time change but a lng-term jurney. With cnsistent effrts and
patience, yu will gradually embrace a mre relaxed and authentic life.
      A. Make sure they are actually pssible t attain.

I hesitated at first, feeling bth nervus and uncnfident. Still, I reluctantly accepted her challenge, determined
nt t let her dwn. The training turned ut t be far tugher than I had expected. My lungs burned with every deep

Finally, race day arrived. The atmsphere was electric, filled with excitement, music, and the murmur f the
crwd. We started slwly and steadily, careful nt t rush. At the 3-kilmeter mark, a steep, unfrgiving hill
lmed directly ahead. Halfway up, my strength began t fail. My breath came in shrt, painful gasps, and I had t
