C Math struggles in kids may cme frm brains that have a harder time learning frm mistakes—nt just understanding numbers. Researchers at Stanfrd University, led by Hyesang Chang, set ut t understand why certain children have mre difficulty learning math than thers. In a new paper published n February 9 in JNeursci, the team examined hw children apprach numerical(用数字表示的) tasks and hw their brains respnd during learning. T study this, children cmpleted a series f trials where they chse which number was larger. Smetimes the quantities were shwn as written numbers, and ther times as grups f dts(圆点). The researchers then built a mdel that tracked hw each child’s perfrmance changed ver time, rather than lking nly at right r wrng answers.
The mdel revealed a key difference between children with typical math skills and thse wh struggled. Children with math learning difficulties had truble adjusting their prblem-slving strategies after making mistakes, even when they encuntered different types f errrs. Instead f updating their apprach, their perfrmance tended t stay incnsistent acrss trials. Brain imaging prvided insight int why this pattern emerged. Children wh struggled with math shwed less frequent respnse in brain regins invlved in mnitring perfrmance and adjusting behavir. The researchers als fund that reduced respnse in these areas culd predict whether a child was mre likely t have nrmal r abnrmal math abilities.
The findings suggest that math difficulties may nt be limited t understanding numbers themselves. Instead, sme children may struggle because they have difficulty revising their perceptins as they wrk thrugh prblems. Accrding t Chang, “These difficulties may nt necessarily be specific t numerical skills, and culd apply t brader cgnitive(认知的) abilities that invlve mnitring task perfrmance and adapting behavir as children learn.” Lking ahead, the research team plans t test their mdel in larger grups f children, including thse with ther types f learning disabilities. Their gal is t better understand whether challenges with adapting strategies play a wider rle in hw children learn acrss different subjects.
28.What were kids asked t d in the trials?A.Write dwn different numbers. B.Reflect upn their final answers.C.Cmpare different number sizes. D.Cunt dts in different cnditins.29.What did kids struggling with math fail t d?A.Spt similar errrs. B.Cmplete the trials.C.Acknwledge their mistakes. D.Make their thinking flexible.
30.Why d kids with math struggles perfrm incnsistently?A.Their brain activity is weaker. B.They ignre different settings.C.Their brain capacity is smaller. D.They lack usual brain training.31.Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the text?A.Beynd Errrs: The Cause f Learning Math WellB.Beynd Numbers: The Reasn fr Math DifficultiesC.Learning frm Numbers: The Way t Cnquer MathD.Learning frm Life: The Key t Bettering Math Abilities
根据第二段“T study this, children cmpleted a series f trials where they chse which number was larger.” 根据第三段“Children with math learning difficulties had truble adjusting their prblem-slving strategies after making mistakes...Instead f updating their apprach, their perfrmance tended t stay incnsistent acrss trials.”
根据第四段“Brain imaging prvided insight int why this pattern emerged. Children wh struggled with math shwed less frequent respnse in brain regins invlved in mnitring perfrmance and adjusting behavir.” 故选A。
D Due t a shrtage f fruit pickers, arund 10% f fruits wrldwide never get harvested. Fruit that gets picked even tw weeks late ends up lsing 80% f its value. Wrse still, farmers lse arund $30 billin in sales every year due t verripe fruit that never gets harvested. If this trend cntinues, there will be five millin less wrkers than necessary by 2050.Farmers are left with the questin f hw t slve this issue. Tevel Aerbtics Technlgies has a remedy. The cmpany has develped flying autnmus rbts(FARs) that pick ripe fruit ff the trees and lwer it t the grund fr cllectin. The FARs are able t wrk arund the clck during harvest withut the need fr breaks r sleep. They functin n gas and electricity and are cnnected t a pwer surce s that they d nt need t land t be recharged.
The FARs are equipped with artificial intelligence(AI) technlgy that is easily prgrammable with infrmatin abut hw t tell when a fruit is ripe accrding t its clr grading r weight r size, hw t remve each type f fruit ff the tree t safely harvest them, and whether the fruit is damaged r unsellable. 根据第一段“Due t a shrtage f fruit pickers, arund 10% f fruits wrldwide never get harvested. Fruit that gets picked even tw weeks late ends up lsing 80% f its value. Wrse still, farmers lse arund $30 billin in sales every year due t verripe fruit that never gets harvested.” 故选A。
根据第三段“The FARs are equipped with artificial intelligence(AI) technlgy that is easily prgrammable with infrmatin abut hw t tell when a fruit is ripe...hw t remve each type f fruit ff the tree t safely harvest them...Setup is easy, taking under tw hurs with the help f Tevel emplyees”可知,Tevel员工会为机器人预设定制化的操作程序,包括识别水果成熟度、安全采摘的方式等,以此保障采摘的安全性。故选C。

The data helps the farmers t knw mre abut hw their farm is functining verall...s that they can respnd accrdingly.”
In the last tw decades, the fight against msquites has witnessed the use f high tech. A new methd fr dealing with msquites has recently gained ppularity. It gives msquites a naturally ccurring bacterium, Wlbachia. 36(D) When enugh Wlbachia-carrying msquites becme established, the lcal ppulatin still flies arund, but it can’t spread diseases like dengue r Zika.
Hwever, befre we reach fr the big red buttn, ne lessn is wrth cnsidering. In A Sand Cunty Almanac, cnservatinist Ald Lepld tells a stry abut shting a wlf and watching “a fierce green fire” die in her eyes. He said it was at that mment that he realized he hadn’t been “thinking like a muntain”. What des that mean? Kill the wlves and yu get mre deer temprarily. 37(F)
38(A) But “thinking like a muntain” means asking what else is assciated with them. The hnest answer? Perhaps mre than we’d like t admit. Sme spiders and fish specialize in eating msquites. Many birds, particularly in the Arctic summer, where insects are a prtein windfall, depend n them during crucial perids. A few plants even rely n msquites t set seed. 39(C) Eliminating(消除) msquites, yu may destry the whle ecsystem.
Will every ecsystem crash if we eliminate a disease-carrying ppulatin in ne neighbrhd? N. Wuld every system adapt if we eliminated msquites everywhere? That isn’t clear. 40(B) Wrld Msquit Prgram’s Wlbachia apprach leaves lcal msquit numbers rughly unchanged while eliminating their ability t spread diseases. Ttal remval by repeated releases f engineered males is a weapn. But we shuld be clear abut what tl we’re using.
A.Of curse, msquites aren’t wlves. B.The challenge lies in scale and purpse. C.Dn’t simply think abut reducing bites. D.In this way, viruses inside them can be blcked. E.After all, citizens always speak ill f msquites. F.That said, yu see a prer frest in the lng term. G.Yu can never get rid f all msquites cmpletely.
38.A 转折句。 故选A。
My sn and his new friend met n the way t schl. Withut many wrds, she turned t Nick, ndding t indicate she wuld cver the payment with her phne. Her fingers tapped quickly n the screen, and the familiar beep f a successful transactin eched in the quiet stre. She then wrapped the medicine vial in a clean scarf frm her bag, pressing it int the ld lady’s cld hands, her eyes sft with sympathy.

He rushed t take dwn the “Mbile Payment Only” sign, crumpling it in his fist. That evening, he taped a new nte t the cunter: “Cash and mbile payments bth welcme.” He realized efficiency meant nthing if it left the vulnerable ut in the cld, and his small stre wuld nw be a place f warmth, nt rigid rules.
