Many peple have seen the way a Mimsa pudica plant, als called the tuch-me-nt, flds its leaves when tuched. Fewer knw that if yu put ne int a sealed rm with a dse f anaesthetic(麻醉剂), it will eventually stp ding this, as thugh it has been kncked ut r put t sleep. This raises cntrversial ideas: Des this plant exist in a state f awareness that is shut ff by anaesthetics? Or might we cnsider this state as plants' subjective internal experience?Pac Calv at the University f Murcia in Spain and a small grup f plant behaviur researchers take them seriusly.
Plants perate in ways that are difficult fr us t perceive, s peple have traditinally assumed they aren't ding very much. But in recent years, researchers have fund them t pssess many surprising abilities. Plants can sense and react t mre aspects f their envirnments than we can, and they maintain busy scial lives by cmmunicating with each ther abve and belw grund.
Calv believes that the first step in explring the internal lives f plants is t lk clsely at their behaviur. He has spent many hurs simply sitting and watching his favurite cmmn bean plants grw.“One way t tune in t plants is t slw dwn and get clser t their different timescales,” he says. At the Minimal Intelligence Labratry (MINT Lab) at the University fMurcia, he and his clleagues take a mre high-tech apprach. Taking the climbing beans as an example, they use images taken every minute t capture the plants’ mvements while mnitring their internal electrical signalling activity with electrdes and bisensrs (生物传感器).
While the MINT Lab is lking jyfully at electrical signalling, ther plant behaviurists are being sceptical abut plants having cnsciusness.
“It's an interesting philsphical questin, but nt a very useful ne fr understanding plants, as everything they d can be explained physilgically(生理地),” says Mike Blatt at theUniversity f Glasgw, UK.

“ Recgnitin is the first human quest,” the jurnalist Andy Cruch writes in his bk TheLife We are Lking fr. Babies cme ut f the wmb (子宫) lking fr a face that will see them, a parent r a caretaker wh will attend t their needs. When their needs are nt seen, they are emtinally hurt.
Psychlgists smetimes cnduct“still face” experiments in which mthers are asked nt t respnd t their babies' attempts t gain attentin. When the babies send ut signals fr lve and care, the mthers remain expressinless. At first, the babies appear uneasy. Sn, they cry in srrw. These experiments are nt designed t cause harm, but t reveal hw deeply human beings depend n being recgnized by thers.
Such experiences frm what may be called the first educatin f life. Frm the very beginning, every child is searching fr answers t basic questins: Am I safe? Hw des lve wrk? Am I wrthy? Even in babyhd, we internalize the answers t these questins based n what we see and hw we are treated. This educatin des nt end in childhd but cntinues int later adulthd, shaping hw peple see themselves and relate t thers.
The abve fact tells us that everyne needs attentin, s peple need t develp empathy——a set f scial and emtinal skills that allw them t understand thers. But hw t develp it? One f the earliest skills related t empathy is mirrring. Mirrring means accurately catching the emtin f the persn in frnt f yu.
A persn wh is gd at mirrring is quick t experience thers' emtins. He is able t smile at smiles and frwn at frwns. This happens because a pwerful way t understand anther persn's feelings is t live them ut yurself in yur wn bdy. Thrugh such shared emtinal experiences, empathy is gradually frmed rather than naturally given.
When peple experience reliable and empathetic recgnitin, they feel safe. And a persn wh feels safe because f thers' empathetic presence is mre likely t see the wrld as a wider, mre pen, and happier place.
      32. Why d psychlgists cnduct“still face” experiments?
      A. T stp emtinal hurt t babies.
      B. T test mthers’ reactins t babies.
      C. T teach adults sme parenting skills.
      D. T study babies’ needs fr recgnitin.
      33. What des the authr suggest abut“the first educatin f life”?
      A. It lasts thrugh a life time.
      B. It is frmed by relatins t schls.
      C. It ends in early childhd.
      D. It is gained by prpsing questins.
      34. What des the underlined phrase“live them ut” prbably mean in paragraph 5?
      A. Hide the feelings.B. Ease the feelings.
      C. Feel the feelings.D. Overcme the feelings.
      35. What can be inferred frm the last paragraph?
      A. The wrld makes peple mre empathetic.
      B. Recgnitin shapes peple's wrld view.
      C. Emtinal safety prmtes independence.
      D. Happiness cmes after shwing empathy.

Are yu t busy fr lng- term happiness rutines? In tday's fast- paced wrld, many peple struggle t maintain big well- being practices like gratitude jurnals. What if mre jy culd cme nt frm majr lifestyle changes? 36 Fr example, ask a friend t share smething that made them feel prud.

These acts include expressing gratitude, perfrming a small kindness, watching an awe- inspiring vide and mre—— spread ver seven days. 37 On a scale (量表) frm“nt at all”, t“a lt,” they rate hw psitively and hw negatively they feel befre starting and after cmpleting each micr- act.
Remarkably, after just ne week, researchers analyzed data frm 17,598 participants and fund significant imprvements. The results shwed they have greater emtinal well- being, mre psitive feelings, lwer stress, and even better sleep quality. 38 Thse wh take part als feel mre cnnected and willing t help thers—— what researchers call“prscial” behavir.Interestingly, participants, whse prsciality scres were lwer befre the start f the prject, experienced the largest imprvement after seven days. 39
In a wrld ften filled with stress and lneliness, these micr- acts ffer a practical and uplifting path frward.
40 Researchers believe they activate key psychlgical ingredients: bsting psitive emtins, strengthening scial bnds, and restring a sense f persnal agency. Instead f waiting fr happiness t cme frm external events, participants learn they can actively steer their wn well- being.
      A. The benefits g beynd persnal happiness.
      B. Why d such small actins wrk s effectively?
      C. Participants als answer several questins alng the way.
      D. What if instead it culd cme frm simple, brief actins in yur daily life?
      E. We set ut t explre why“micr- acts” can affect verall happiness in life.
      F. This suggests small jyful actins can be very pwerful where they are mst needed.
      G. The number makes it the largest- ever cmmunity science prject n jy in the wrld.

      (2)所使用词汇和语法结构的准确性、恰当性和多样性。
      (3)上下文的衔接和全文的连贯性。
      3.评分时,应先根据作答的整体情况确定其所属的档次,然后以该档次的要求来综合衡量,确定或调整档次,最后给分。
      4.评分时还应注意:
      (1)词数少于 120词的,酌情扣分;
      (2)单词拼写和标点符号是写作规范的重要方面,评分时应视其对交际的影响程度予以考虑,英、美拼写及词汇用法均可接受;
      (3)书写较差以致影响交际的,酌情扣分。
      (三)评分标准
