Researchers have develped a machine learning algrithm (算法) t accurately detect heart murmurs (杂音) in dgs, ne f the main indicatrs f heart disease. The research team, led by the University f Cambridge, adapted an algrithm. riginally designed fr humans and fund it culd autmatically detect and grade heart murmurs in dgs, based n audi recrdings frm digital stethscpes (听诊器).
“Heart disease in humans is a huge health issue, but in dgs it’s an even bigger prblem,” said Dr Andrew McDnald frm Cambridge’s Department f Engineering. “Rughly ne in every thirty dgs seen by a vet has a heart murmur, althugh the incidence is higher in small breed dgs and lder dgs. Mst smaller dg breeds will have heart disease when they get lder, but bviusly dgs can’t cmmunicate in the same way that humans can, s it’s up t primary care vets t detect heart disease early enugh s it can be treated.”
The researchers started with a database f heart sunds frm abut 1,000 human patients and develped the machine learning algrithm. They then adapted it s it culd be used with heart sunds frm dgs. The researchers gathered data frm almst 800 dgs that were underging rutine heart examinatin. All dgs received a full physical examinatin and heart scan t grade any heart murmurs and identify heart disease. Their heart sunds were recrded using an electrnic stethscpe. The researchers adjusted the algrithm s it culd bth detect and grade heart murmurs based n the audi recrdings, and tell the difference between murmurs assciated with mild disease and thse reflecting advanced heart disease that required further treatment.
“S many peple talk abut AL as a threat t jbs, but fr me, I see it as a tl that will make me a better dctr, ” said.c-authr. Prfessr Jse Nv Mats. “We dn’t have enugh time r veterinary (兽医的) specialists t screen every dg with a murmur. But tls like these culd help vets and wners, s we can quickly identify thse dgs that are mst in need f treatment.”
      8. What is the functin f the machine learning algrithm?
      A. T recrd sunds f dgs.
      B. T treat heart disease in dgs.
      C. T identify and rate heart murmurs in dgs.
      D. T train vets t recgnize heart murmurs in dgs.
      9. Why is heart disease in dgs cnsidered a bigger prblem than that in humans?
      A. Dgs can’t express their symptms like humans.
      B. Vets are less skilled in detecting heart disease.
      C. Dgs have a higher incidence f heart disease.
      D. Heart disease in dgs is harder t treat.
      10. What can be inferred abut the researchers’ apprach t develping the algrithm?
      A. Adapting the algrithm fr dgs was unplanned.
      B. Dg data was priritized ver human data t r accuracy.
      C. The algrithm is less accurate fr dgs than fr humans.
      D. The develpment f the algrithm was based n human data.
      11. What is Jse Nv Mats attitude t the use f AI in veterinary medicine?
