      Paper-making is ne f the fur greatest inventins f ancient China. Befre it was invented, writing was difficult. Peple culd nly write n wd r expensive silk. Therefre, nly the rich and the gvernment culd keep written recrds and receive educatin.
      In the early Western Han Dynasty, peple began t make paper. But it was nt smth enugh fr writing. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, paper-making gt a big step frward after Cai Lun imprved the technique. He made paper with cheap and easy-t-find materials.
      First, he cllected tree barks (the uter part f trees), ld fishing nets and ld clthes. He put these materials in special water fr a few days. After that, he heated them n fire and then emptied the water. Next, he beat them with a wden hammer t break them int small pieces. After that, he mixed the brken materials with water in a big pt t make pulp (浆). Later, he spread the pulp carefully n a bamb screen with hles. Finally, he dried the screen in the air.
