Plastic is everywhere — and yet sme peple may be surprised at hw much they actually wear. It has been wven int ur sprtswear, sweaters, swimsuits and stretchy scks. A single wash can release millins which are s tiny that wastewater treatment factries can’t cllect them all. They wind up in lcal waterways that cnnect t the cean. Sea animals eat them, and that can pass plastic t larger animals and humans.
Even natural fabrics shed fibers and have chemicals that can spread int the envirnment. But plyester (聚酯纤维) is the mst widely used fiber n Earth, and alng with ther synthetic fibers accunts fr abut tw-thirds f prductin wrldwide.
“Everyne wh wears and washes clthing is part f this prblem but everyne wh wears and washes clthing can be part f the slutins,” said Rachel Z. Whether yu believe a custmer is always right prbably depends n which side f the cunter yu’re n. Fr shppers, a shpkeeper quick t fix mistakes and listen t cncerns is great. But fr shpkeepers, cnsumers abuse (滥用) this can be tiresme. Is a custmer right when returning a half-eaten sandwich? There is n easy answer.

The Bstn Glbe called him a “merchant (商业) prince” and nted his business principles. Field insisted his emplyees respect and bey his practices, like sticking t “the custmer is always right”. It’s pssible the Bstn Glbe authr wed a cmmn prverb (格言) t him.
César Ritz, a htel wner with prperties in Paris and Lndn, was als a prpnent f a similar idea f “the custmer is never wrng” in 1908. Anther persn, a manager under Field, is als linked t the phrase. He might have cme up with it, r Field might have adpted it frm him. In 1909, the manager pened his Lndn stre. His gd manners t custmers were famus. Once, he learned f a wman wh believed a cat cst 25 pence rather than 25 punds: He let her buy it fr the lesser amunt.
Hwever, sme find the phrase infantilizing (当小孩看待), arguing that custmers can quite frequently be wrng and that n stre shuld accmmdate unreasnable shppers. Even the manager’s stre turned away in 1936, stating “The custmer is nt quite always right. There is such a thing, very seldm, as the unreasnable bserve ur ld prverb that the custmer is always right, and at the same time we relieve urselves f a pssibly impssible psitin by adding the tw wrds ‘almst always’.”
12. What is the authr’s purpse in writing the first paragraph?
A. T present a debatable business saying.
B. T criticize shpkeepers’ service aims.
C. T share a persnal shpping experience.
D. T explain hw t get n with custmers.
13. What did Marshall Field d?
A. He first published his business principles.
B. He nce cntributed t the Bstn Glbe.
C. He demanded his wrkers t fllw his rules.
D. He prtested that custmers are always right.
14. What des the underlined wrd “prpnent” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Critic.B. Analyst.C. Inventr.D. Supprter.
15. What happened t the stre f the manager under Field in 1936?
A. It received cmplaint fr its service.
B. It adjusted the ld principles a little.
C. It agreed t serve difficult custmers.
D. It ttally gave up its frmer belief.
