Are zs necessary, r are they nly bad t the animals?(4) This is a questin that causes disagreement amng many animal experts. Sme, we may just call them Grup A, believe that placing animals in a z des harm t them. These peple think that all animals shuld be prtected frm being hunted illegally fr fur r skins and left in their natural habitats, which we can call wildlife reserves. They als advise peple t be educated t knw mre abut animals in the wild.(5) Other experts f Grup B think differently. They say that mdem zs are designed very clsely t the natural envirnment. They believe that certain species, such as the panda frm China and the white tiger frm India, are nt nly prtected frm uncntrlled hunting and killing but can give birth t babies under prtectin and in that way they may be saved frm dying ut.(6) OK, that’s all frm me and yu’re expected t express yur pinins n this questin next class.

Gd mrning, class. Nw I’ll tell yu smething abut the histry f English. Old English is very difficult t understand. Only a few experts can read it. Several written wrks frm the Old English perid have remained. Perhaps the mst famus is called Bewulf(7). The name f the persn wh wrte it is nt knwn.
In 1066, William tk cntrl f England. The language used by the new rulers slwly changed the way English was spken 800 years ag. English became what language experts call Middle English, which was used between abut 1150 CE and 1500 CE(8). Middle English sunds like Mdern English. Many written wrks frm this perid have been passed dwn. Perhaps the mst famus was written by Geffrey Chaucer, wh lived in Lndn and died there in the 1400s. Chaucer's mst famus wrk is The Canterbury Tales, written mre than 600 years ag.(9)
The histry f the English language cntinues as Middle English becmes Mdern English. I’ll talk abut Mdern English after a shrt break.(10)

Hell, and welcme t this week's editin f the Glbal Culture Pdcast. Tday, we're ging t discuss UNESCO Wrld Heritage sites. Places as unique and significant as the Mga caves in China, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the pyramids f Egypt are part f ur shared heritage. There are already ver a thusand UNESCO Wrld Heritage sites.
What are the benefits f gaining heritage site status then? Firstly, nce a site is listed, it is brught under the supervisin f UNESCO. It means better prtectin and cnservatin. There will be mre technical and financial (11) assistance t prtect and preserve the site. This is true especially when the site is critically endangered. Fr example, Angkr, capital f the Khmer Empire frm the 9th t the 15th century, entered the Wrld Heritage list in 1992 and was added t the list f Wrld Heritage in danger in the same year. UNESCO then wrked tgether with internatinal experts and the lcal gvernment t prtect and manage the site. After a decade f hard wrk, Angkr was remved frm UNESCO's danger list in 2004 (12). Secndly, as sn as a site gains its Wrld Heritage status, the public will pay mre attentin t it. The new heritage site is likely t attract mre turists (13) frm far and wide, at hme and abrad. The bm in turism will in turn lead t ecnmic develpment. This is especially imprtant fr prer cuntries, fr it will bst the service industries and create different kinds f jbs fr the residents. Als, ecnmic develpment will make it pssible t imprve the lcal infrastructure. Mre rads and bridges (14) can benefit nt nly the turists, but als the lcal peple. Mrever, the inclusin f any site in the Wrld Heritage list is a surce f natinal pride (15).
