A recent study frm Flinders University has explred hw cffee and tea might affect bne health in lder wmen. The research fllwed nearly 10,000 wmen aged 65 and lder fr ten years, aiming t understand if drinking cffee r tea regularly influences bne mineral density (骨矿物质密度) (BMD), which helps measure the risk f steprsis (骨质疏松).
Osteprsis is a cmmn cnditin that affects ne in three wmen ver 50 and leads t many bne fractures (骨折) each year. Since cffee and tea are part f daily life fr billins f peple, understanding their impact n bnes is imprtant. Previus studies have shwn mixed results, but this research is unique because it tracked such a large grup fr ten years and its results are valuable.
The findings shwed that wmen wh drank tea had slightly higher hip BMD than thse wh didn’t. Althugh the difference was small, it was significant and culd have an impact when cnsidering a large grup f peple. Even small imprvements in bne density may lead t fewer fractures, especially in a large ppulatin.
On the ther hand, the effects f cffee were less clear, but drinking t much culd lead t lwer BMD. Wmen wh drank mre alchl were particularly affected by cffee’s side effects, while tea appeared t benefit wmen wh are verweight.
“Our results dn’t mean yu need t give up cffee r start drinking tea,” says Ryan Liu frm Flinders University. “But they d suggest that drinking mderate (适度的) tea culd be ne simple way t supprt bne health, and that very high cffee intake might nt be a gd idea. 10. What can be inferred frm the new study?
A. Tea has n side effects n bnes.B. Cffee helps imprve bne density.
C. High cffee intake harms bnes.D. Overweight wmen need t avid tea.
11. What des the underlined wrd “feasible” mean in the last paragraph?
A. Difficult.B. Wrkable.
C. PpularD. Ineffective.

Despite a 30-year warming trend, the last three years in the Bering Sea have been the cldest n recrd. A scientist f University f Alaska Fairbanks(UAF) says that the cld temperatures have helped prduce larger zplanktn (浮游动物) in the Bering Sea, which may be changing the way Walleye pllck (狭鳕) are feeding.
Alexei Pinchuk, a researcher at the UAF Seward Marine Center, has spent the last three years gathering zplanktn samples (样本) in the Bering Sea. He and his cwrkers have been lking at hw changes in temperature in the Bering Sea affect the zplanktn, and in turn hw the zplanktn may affect the diet f Walleye pllck.
During clder years, like the last three, pllck tend t eat the larger zplanktn, like cpepds and krill, which grw well in lwer temperatures. Pinchuk has als fund that the recent cld temperatures have brught an arctic “sand-flea”, the amphipd Themist libellula, suth int Bering Sea waters. Yung pllck seem t prefer t eat these amphipds ver ther, smaller nes f zplanktn.
In warmer years, which include the recrd-setting high temperatures f 2001 t 2005, smaller zplanktn tend t grw better. Accrding t Pinchuk and his cwrkers, yunger pllck tend t eat the smaller planktn, while larger pllck favr the larger planktn fund in clder waters. This causes yunger pllck t start ut ding well in warmer temperatures, but as the pllck grw bigger, they may nt be able t find the larger zplanktn they need t prduce enugh fat fr verwintering.
“The larger pllck may then eat their smaller cusins instead,” said Pinchuk. Althugh the last few years have been cld, scientists believe that the warming trend in the Bering Sea will cntinue.
Pinchuk’s findings were recently published in the jurnal Nature n Nvember 4th. His wrk is part f the brad Bering Sea Prject, a six-year, $52 millin ecsystem study f the Bering Sea. The Bering Sea Prject is supprted by bth the Natinal Science Fundatin and the Nrth Pacific Research Bard.
12. Hw d cld temperatures affect zplanktn in the Bering Sea?
A. They change the clrs f zplanktn.
B. They reduce the numbers f zplanktn.
C They slw the mvement f zplanktn.
D. They benefit the grwth f zplanktn.
13. What is prbably a challenge fr yung pllck in warmer years?
A. They need t travel lng distances fr fd.
B. They may meet mre enemies.
C. They may struggle t survive.
D. They have t cmpete with larger pllck.
14. What des the authr intend t d in the last paragraph?
A. Summarize previus studies.
B. Add sme backgrund infrmatin.
C. Prvide sme advice fr fishermen.
D. Describe the directin f further study.
15. Where is the text prbably taken frm?
A. A science magazine.B. An educatinal blg.

Alexei Pinchuk a researcher at the UAF Seward Marine Center, has spent the last three years gathering zplanktn samples (样本) in the Bering Sea.

A. They change the clrs f zplanktn.
B. They reduce the numbers f zplanktn.
C. They slw the mvement f zplanktn.
