She is als deeply cnnected t its peple—Gen Z students. She has jined their Hallween parties and eaten in the dining hall with them since she was little. Every year, she sets up a small table n the sidewalk t sell her things, frm friendship gifts t lemnade. The Gen Z students are always very kind, stpping t buy her drinks and ckies as if they had all the time in the wrld.
I, hwever, have a hard time saying where I am “frm.” By the time I was Cra’s age, I had lived in several different states. I mved a lt as an adult, t. I’ve nw lived at Stanfrd fr 13 years—lnger than anywhere else—and built a family here. But can I call it my hme?
Hearing Cra’s hnest and emtinal cry f “Hme!” filled me with a sudden understanding. Cra is truly frm here. Her whle bdy knws it. The turn in the rad and the clr f the grass tell her that she is back where she belngs. Until that mment, I thught I was sharing this place with my children. When it cmes t healthy brain aging, cmmn advice includes eating well, staying active, and keeping scial cnnectins. But new research adds anther imprtant task—learning additinal languages. A study published in Nature Aging suggests that speaking several languages may reduce the risk f speed - up cgnitive (认知) aging, making multilingualism(多语言) a valuable public health strategy.
Previus studies n this tpic were ften unclear due t small sample(样本) sizes and imperfect aging measurement methds. Hwever, this new research surveyed ver 86,000 healthy peple aged ver 50 acrss 27 Eurpean cuntries, and used a better “brain - age test” that checked cgnitive aging, s the results are mre trustwrthy. “The effects f multilingualism n aging have always been uncertain, but this ne seems t reveal them quite decisively,” says Christs Laris, a cgnitive neurscientist at the University f Reading wh didn't take part in the study.
Researchers cmpared each participant's(参与者) actual age with their predicted age based n health and lifestyle. Cmputer infrmatin shwed that multilingual speakers are abut half as likely t experience faster aging as mnlinguals(单语言者). This prtective effect remained even when cnsidering factrs like air quality and gender quality, and the mre languages ne speaks, the greater the benefit.
“Each additinal language prvided measurable prtectin,” says Agustin Marquez, a study c - authr and neurscientist at Trinity Cllege Dublin. “Speaking several languages cntinuusly exercises many systems. It frces yu t manage attentin, and shift between languages, all f which strengthen the netwrks that tend t weaken with age.”
Experts nte that while many brain health tips fcus n reducing damage, this study shws language learning imprves the brain's ability t make up fr damage. Stephen Rae, an educatin schlar at the University f Auckland, pints ut that 50 t 70 percent f the wrld is multilingual, but mst native English speakers are mnlinguals, stressing the need fr the fficials t mix language learning with health and educatin strategies.
28. What advice des the new study ffer fr healthy brain aging?
A. Stick t a balanced diet.B. Take up regular daily exercise.
C. Pick up additinal languages.D. Develp regular scial cnnectins.
29. What makes the new study different frm previus studies?
A. Its numerus glbal participants.B. Its cverage f varius age grups.
C. Its perfect survey f Eurpean data.D. Its better aging measurement methds.
30. What can be inferred abut multilinguals frm the text?
A. They are less likely t manage attentin.
B. They tend t have weaker brain netwrks.
C. They may face a lwer risk f cgnitive aging.
D. They have a higher risk f age - related diseases.
31. Which f the fllwing can be the best title f the passage?
A. The Imprtance f Balanced Diet fr Lng - term Health
B. The Pwer f Multilingualism against Cgnitive Aging
C. The Difference between Multilinguals and Mllinguals

Micrplastics are nw fund almst everywhere n Earth—ceans, fd, the atmsphere, and even human bdy. Surprisingly, these mdern pllutants have been fund in an unexpected place: ancient archaelgical sites.

C.
E., with sme cllected in the late 1980s.
Using an imaging technique called μFTIR, researchers identified 66 plastic pieces belnging t 16 types. "This ensures that what were nce thught t be unplluted archaelgical depsits are actually plluted with plastics," said Mark Hlden, an archaelgist at the University f Yrk. Micrplastics are plastic pieces smaller than five millimeters. They cme frm varius surces such as, beauty prducts.
While micrplastics have been fund in sil befre—nearly ne - third f all plastic waste ends up in sil r freshwater. This study prvides the first evidence f their presence in ancient archaelgical depsits. These findings may reshape hw archaelgists prtect histric sites.
Fr years, preserving remains in situ (in their riginal lcatins) has been the preferred methd, as it prevents damage and preserves imprtant infrmatin fr future research. Hwever, "micrplastic pllutin culd lwer the scientific value f the remains," explained Ryan Cper, chief executive f Yrk Archaelgy. "The presence f micrplastics changes sil chemistry, likely causing rganic remains t decay(腐烂). If that's the case, preserving archaelgy in situ may n lnger be apprpriate."
Nw, researchers are fcusing n explring the full influence f this pllutin. "We need t find ut t what degree these micrplastics affect the value f the depsits and their natinal imprtance," Hlden added.
32. What surprises the authr abut micrplastics accrding t the text?
A. They pllute ancient cultural sites.
B. They are rather difficult t find.
C. They are drawn frm varius surces.
D. They have been fund in human bdies.
33. Hw did the researchers identify micrplastics in the sil samples?
A. By measuring the size f the pieces.
B. By cmparing different sil depsits.
C. By using a special imaging instrument.
D. By studying the surce f sil pllutin.
34. What des the underlined wrd "apprpriate" prbably mean?
A. Advanced.B. Suitable.C. Impractical.D. Outdated.
35. What d the researchers plan t survey next?
A. Practical ways t recycle plastic waste.B. Additinal sites affected by micrplastics.
C. Effective methds t clear up micrplastics.D. Exact harmful effects f micrplastic pllutin.
