In 2004, when my daughter Becky was ten, she and my husband, Je, were united in their desire fr a dg. As fr me, I shared nne f their canine lust.
But why, they pleaded. "Because I dn't have time t take care f a dg." But we'll d it. "Really? Yu're ging t walk the dg? Feed the dg? Bathe the dg?" Yes, yes and yes. "I dn't believe yu." We will. We prmise.
They didn't. Frm day tw (everyne wanted t walk the cute puppy that first day) neither thught t walk the dg. While I was slw t accept that I wuld be the ne t keep track f her shts, t schedule her vet appintments, t feed and clean her, Misty knew this n day ne. As she lked up at the three new humans in her life (small, medium, and large), she calculated, “The medium ne is the sucker in the pack.”
Quickly, she and I develped smething very similar t a Vulcan mind meld (心灵融合). She'd lk at me with thse sad brwn eyes f hers, beam her need, and then wait, trusting I wuld understand — which, strangely, I almst always did. In n time, she became my fifth appendage (附肢), snring n my hme - ffice cuch as I wrked, cradling against my feet as I read, and splaying acrss my stmach as I watched televisin.
Even s, part f me cntinued t resent walking duty. Je and Becky had prmised. Nt fair, I'd balk (不心甘情愿地做) silently as she and I walked. “Nt fair,” I'd ludly remind anyne within earsht upn ur return hme.
Then ne day — January 1, 2007, t be exact — my husband's dctr uttered an unthinkable wrd: leukemia (白血病). With that, I spent eight t ten hurs a day with Je in the hspital, ding anything and everything I culd t ease his discmfrt. During thse six mnths f hspitalizatins, Becky, 12 at that time, adjusted t ther adults being in the huse when she returned frm schl. My wrk clleagues adjusted t my taking ff at a mment's ntice fr medical emergencies. Every part f my life changed; n part f my ld rutine remained.
Save ne: Misty still needed walking. At the beginning, when friends ffered t take her thrugh her paces, I declined because I knew they had their wn husehlds t deal with.
As the mnths went by, I began t realize that I actually wanted t walk Misty. The walk in the mrning befre I headed t the hspital was a quiet, peaceful time t gather my thughts r t just be befre the day's medical drama unflded. The evening walk was a time t shake ff the day's upsets and let the wrry tracks in my head g t white nise.
When serius illness visits yur husehld, it's nt just yur daily rutine and yur assumptins abut the future that are n lnger familiar. Pretty much everyne yu knw acts differently.
After Je died in 2009, Misty slept n his pillw.
I'm grateful — t a pint. The truth is, after years f balking, I've cme t enjy my walks with Misty. As I watch her chase a squirrel, thrwing her whle being int the here - and - nw f an exercise that has never nce ended in victry, she reminded me, t, that n matter hw harsh the present r unpredictable the future, there's almst always sme measure f jy t be extracted frm the mment.

In an argument, if yu strngly feel yu're right, yu may actually be wrng, a study shws. Yu may be experiencing what scientists call an "illusin(错觉)f infrmatin adequacy".
The study, published in the jurnal PLOS ONE, was cnducted by a team f scientists frm the US. They believe this "illusin"may cntribute t misunderstandings and cnflicts in ur lives withut us even realizing it.
The team cnducted an nline experiment invlving 1, 261 participants frm the US. The participants were divided int three grups, each reading an article abut a fictinal schl that lacked water. The article fr the first grup presented nly reasns why the schl shuld merge(合并)with anther that had sufficient water, while the secnd grup's article nly gave reasns against the merger. Neither grup knew they had nly half the stry. The third grup,

The first grup recmmended the merger while the secnd disagreed. Bth said they were just as well - infrmed as anyne else, and that mst ther peple wuld make the same chice as they did. In the third grup, 55 percent supprted the merger, while 45 percent were against it.
"The less that ur brain knws, the mre cnfident it is that it knws all it needs t knw, "Angus Fletcher, ne f the scientists, explained t Ppular Science. "This makes us prne(倾向于)t thinking that we have all the crucial facts abut a decisin, leaping t cnfident cnclusins and decisive judgments, when we are missing necessary infrmatin."
Interestingly, after being presented with all the facts, many participants in the first tw grups changed their minds, resulting in a mix f pinins similar t thse f the third grup. This shwed that, when given mre cmprehensive infrmatin, peple may be willing t change their pinins. Hwever, as nted by Ppular Science, changing deeply entrenched(根深蒂固的)views n mre cmplex tpics can be much mre challenging.

66. What d we knw abut the "illusin f infrmatin adequacy" frm the first tw paragraphs?

B. It may cause unnticeable misunderstandings.
C. It ften appears when peple get enugh infrmatin.
D. It was published in a famus medical jurnal.
67. What was the main purpse f the nline experiment?
A. T shw hw grup pinins vary.
B. T test grup decisin - making skills.
C. T study the effects f incmplete infrmatin.
D. T identify the surces f infrmatin bias.
68. What did Angus Fletcher cnclude frm the study results?
A. Peple rarely change their initial views.
B. Greater infrmatin leads t indecisiveness.
C. Cnfidence grws with less knwledge.
D. Deep - seated views are hard t change.
69. What advice des Sandra Wheatley give fr making imprtant decisins?
A. Trust yur instincts.B. Ignre fixed beliefs.
C. Seek ut ppsing pinins.D. Cnsult a variety f surces.
70. What might be the suitable title f the passage?
A. Why Cnfidence Desn't Mean CrrectnessB. Ways t Avid Misunderstandings in ArgumentsC. Hw Online Experiments Test Peple's Decisin-MakingD. Hw t Avid Cnflicts in Judgments
