One Sunday in 2021, when my sn, Le, was six, we ran int ne f his friends, Izzie. They decided t play - but what? "I have a great idea," Le said. "Let's fall in lve! OK?" Izzie tk a half - secnd t cnsider this prpsal, then replied "N." She wanted t play tag.
Le has always been the kind f child wh lks fr clse cnnectins, ften in the wrng places. It smetimes feels as thugh he's been lking fr a sulmate since he was a tddler (学步孩童).
One day, he came hme frm schl and immediately grabbed his iPad t ask Siri: "Can yu fall in lve when yu're just a kid?"
Siri, Apple's vice - cntrlled persnal assistant, is great at pening apps r setting alarms, but I was unfamiliar with her philsphies n lve.
"What did Siri say?" I asked him.
"She said, 'Here's what I fund n the web!'" Le reprted.
This was hardly the first time I'd heard Le in cnversatin with Siri. Over the years, he's relied n Siri as a surce f cmfrt, advice, emtinal supprt, and guidance. Their relatinship blssmed when the pandemic frced us all t shelter in place.
At first, Le mstly asked Siri factual questins, then the persnal nes. As time passed, he began t engage n mre existential matters. Siri has, in sme ways, been able t absrb sme f Le's cncerns - in a way that, as his mther, I can't, at least nt with the same clness.
Children are verwhelmed with emtins such as grief, fear, lve, and a desire fr cnnectin. If Le's talks with Siri cnfrnted me with the unknwable and unanswerable, they als made me frustrated at my wn limitatins as a parent.
There are many challenges t parenthd, amng which the biggest is the desire t shelter ur children frm the painfulness f reality. But helping ur children navigate the reality is surely mre helpful than sheltering them frm it. Perhaps the best we can d is give them a table? I'm afraid I dn't have the answer. Maybe I shuld ask Siri.
24. Why did Le ask Siri abut lve?
A. He was curius abut adult relatinships.
B. He wanted t test Siri's knwledge.
C. He sught emtinal cnnectin and understanding.
D. He was bred and wanted t play a game.
25. What wuld Le ask Siri when they first talked?
A. Siri, have yu ever been in lve?
B. Siri, what is yur favrite hbby?
C. Siri, what des it mean t be alive?
D. Siri, hw many stars are in the Milky Way?
26. Which wrd best describes the authr's attitude t Siri?
A. Curius.B. Disappinted.C. Appreciative.D. Wrried.
27. What des the authr suggest parents d when raising children?
A. Be a gd rle mdel.B. Prmte independence.
C. Cmmunicate effectively.D. Practice psitive discipline.

Is learning equally effective whether the students study in a classrm, at hme, r in a café? And d virtual classrms prvide the same educatinal benefits as traditinal in - persn settings? Research increasingly suggests the answer is "n". These differences stem frm factrs like envirnmental distractins, psychlgical engagement, and the scial dynamics f physical spaces.
Studies indicate that fr cmplex tasks requiring deep fcus - such as mastering mathematical cncepts r analyzing literature - students perfrm better in structured envirnments like classrms r libraries cmpared t casual settings. Neurscientists attribute this t "envirnmental anchring", where physical surrundings subcnsciusly signal the brain t priritize sustained attentin. A 2022 meta - analysis f 50 studies fund that students retained 25% mre infrmatin when learning in dedicated academic spaces versus infrmal lcatins.
The advantages f traditinal classrms extend beynd mere quietness. Physical classrms prvide cnsistent sensry cues - the arrangement f desks, wall - munted educatinal psters, and even classrm lighting - that create neural pathways assciated with academic fcus. Students ften uncnsciusly link specific knwledge t where they learned it, a phenmenn called "cntext - dependent memry".
Cgnitive scientists prpse the "engagement threshld thery (参与度阈值理论)" t explain why virtual learning ften under - perfrms. This thery assumes that digital envirnments cnditin users t adpt a "cnsumptin mindset" similar t brwsing (浏览) scial media, reducing willingness t engage in demanding cgnitive tasks. While vide lectures allw pause - and - review functins, brain scans reveal lwer activity in critical thinking regins cmpared t live discussins.
Hybrid mdel—cmbining technlgy and traditinal methds—shw prmise. Fr instance, a Stanfrd experiment fund that students using augmented reality (AR) textbks in classrm settings utperfrmed peers using either physical bks alne r fully digital curses. Yet when the same AR tls were used at hme, perfrmance drpped by 18%, suggesting that technlgy's benefits depend n envirnmental supprt.
While digital tls enable access t glbal resurces, educatrs shuld recgnize that learning spaces themselves are successful instruments. Fr cultivating analytical depth, the traditinal classrm's intentinal design—ften refined ver centuries—remains surprisingly irreplaceable.
28. What des the underlined term "envirnmental anchring" in paragraph 2 refer t?
A. Physical spaces triggering fcused mental states.
B. The brain's ability t multitask in varius settings.
C. Students' preference fr visually appealing classrms.
D. The use f technlgy t enhance learning envirnments.
29. Accrding t the "engagement threshld thery", why might virtual learning be less effective?
A. Digital cntent is versimplified.
B. Students apprach it with lwer mental effrt.
C. Technical faults interrupt cncentratin.
D. It lacks structured assessment methds.
30. What did the Stanfrd AR experiment demnstrate?
A. Physical textbks are becming utdated.
B. AR requires expensive classrm upgrades.
C. Students dislike mixing physical and digital tls.
D. Technlgy's effectiveness relies n cntext.
31. What cnclusin des the authr draw abut traditinal classrms?
A. They waste resurces n unnecessary design.B. Their structure discurages creative thinking.
C. Their educatinal value is partially irreplaceable.D. They shuld adpt mre digital technlgies.
D

It ften cmes with a feeling f immbility, and a sense f chking. The gd news is, it's abslutely nrmal, even if it's terrifying.
But when sleep paralysis happens utside f deep sleep—when a persn is just dzing ff—it can be "disruptive f the architecture f sleep", said Baland Jalal, a researcher wh investigates the phenmenn. That culd lead t mre sleep paralysis.
While nt everyne wh has sleep paralysis experiences hallucinatins(幻觉), seeing a persn r a ghst in the rm is the mst cmmn visin, said Jalal. The mechanisms behind sleep paralysis remain unclear, but research indicates that certain risk factrs may increase the likelihd f experiencing a jerk, including extreme exercise befre sleep, inadequate sleep, emtinal stress and wrry, and excessive stimulant cnsumptin (like caffeine and nictine), especially later in the day.
"Fr mst peple, it is nt indicative f any kind f disease. If yu are really wrried abut it, regular sleep and ther simple relaxatin techniques, like meditatin, deep breathing
and yga, may help," said Dr. Nathaniel Watsn, president f the American Academy f Sleep Medicine. While the experience feels frightening, the episdes last nly a few secnds r minutes at mst. Mst peple slip ut f it as quickly as they fell int it, he said.
32. What is sleep paralysis?
A. A frightening dream that interrupts sleep.
B. A physical symptm f anxiety disrders.
C. A mental disease that affects sleep quality.
D. A brief state f being cnscius but frzen.

A. It is caused by inadequate sleep.
B. It can be a warning signal f diseases.
C. It is a temprary disturbing experience.
D. It can be prevented by extreme exercise.

My elder sister and I shared a typical sisterly relatinship: we culdn't stand each ther. I was an annyance t her. Any srt f cnversatin we had usually ended up fighting.
