Superhighways f vessels(血管) beneath ur skin transprt bld and nutrients. These natural pathways expand like tree branches t help ur bdy mve fd and xygen t ur rgans. While ur bdies naturally prduce vessels, biengineers are nw crafting them in labs, using an unexpected material: ice.
The idea was inspired by the ice magic in the Disney mvie Frzen, says Burak Ozdganlar, a mechanical engineer at Carnegie Melln University,“Frzen's ice queen cmmands ice and snw—— maybe we can t.” T make the vessels, the engineer first needed a template(模板) t build the tissue.“Originally,we were trying t d this with wax(蜡),” Ozdganlar says.“But wax prved t sft. And it's nt necessarily bicmpatible, r suitable fr use in the bdy.” Then they thught f Elsa's magic. Ice seemed like a gd alternative fr many reasns. It csts little and is readily available. And mst imprtantly, since it's nnpisnus, the bdy wn't reject it.
Printing the ice template is simple. Engineers prgram the desired shape int a 3-D printer, which then drps water nt a -35°C surface t freeze it instantly. This prcess is repeated until the vessel's shape is cmplete. Overall, it takes less than 30 secnds. Then the template is wrapped in gelatin(明胶), which becmes slid under ultravilet light as the ice melts, leaving behind realistic- lking bld channels.
The team has tested the channels with lining cells f bld vessels. Thse cells survived fr tw weeks,a prmising sign fr future transplantatin int humans. The new vessels might be tested with a drug being develped fr use in peple. Such tests culd shw hw yur bdy might react t the drug.“This is really a game- changer,” says Ozdganlar.
“The new research is quite interesting and exciting,” says Warren Graysn, a bimedical engineer atJhns Hpkins University.“But it als has limitatins. Yu can see that all these structures are pretty small.Their size is limited by the need fr extreme cld. Larger structures wuld nt stay cld enugh due t heat transfer. This methd may nt transfrm the tissue engineering field, but it des prvide anther perspective fr creating structures.”
28. What key advantage des ice ffer ver wax fr the engineers' prject?
A. It's cst- effective.B. It's harmless t ur bdy.
C. It's easy t btain.D. It's envirnmentally friendly.

29. What happens t the ice template during the prcess f vessel making?
A. It slidifies the encasing gelatin.B. It is reshaped after its cmpletin.
C. It becmes a part f the final vessel.D. It melts away with the channels remaining.
30. What des Warren Graysn think f the ice-vessel apprach?
A. It marks a dramatic change.B. It serves as a practical slutin.
C. It prvides a new angle.D. It represents a ntable innvatin.
31. Which f the fllwing can be the best title fr the text?

A team f AI researchers at Micrsft, wrking with clleagues frm the Pacific Nrthwest NatinalLabratry(PNNL), has used AI t develp a battery that uses less lithium (锂).
Lithium batteries have becme the industry standard fr electrnic devices and electric vehicles and are expected t play a majr rle in the change t green pwer. But lithium is expensive, which has led multiple teams acrss the glbe t lk fr alternatives. In this new effrt, the research team lked fr ways t reduce the amunt f lithium used in batteries.
This wuld nrmally take a lng time because f the detailed apprach required. T reduce the wrklad and the time needed t prcess millins f alternatives, the researchers turned t AI. Nting that AIapplicatins are gd at using massive amunts f data t learn hw t d things, the researchers designed ne that culd study millins f materials that might be added t a lithium battery t replace sme amunt f the lithium and test the results fr factrs such as stability and hw a battery using a given material wuld behave.
Using this apprach, the research team reduced the list f pssible alternatives t just a few hundred pssibilities. They then turned t materials scientists at PNNL fr advice n hw t reduce the pssibilities even further. The scientists suggested adding mre specific screening criteria and mre testing runds. After adpting that advice, the team arrived at a prmising alternative and an apprach that invlved replacing apprximately half f the lithium atms in a battery with sdium (钠) atms.
After using the new apprach t build a wrking battery, the researchers fund it had lwer cnductivity(导电性) than needed —— but they als believe that there is rm fr imprvement. They plan t cntinue wrking n the apprach and the prcess they used t find their slutin, which they suggest culd eventually

32. Why did the research team want t develp a battery that uses less lithium?
A. T reduce carbn emissins.B. T meet the industry standard.
C. T decrease the cst f a battery.D. T generate electricity efficiently.
33. What d the underlined wrds“this apprach” in paragraph 4 refer t?
A. Using AI t find pssible materials.B. Adding ther materials t a battery.
C. Develping an applicatin t cllect data.D. Replacing lithium in a battery with sdium.
34. Hw did the research team finally find a prmising alternative?
A. By seeking funding frm PNNL.B. By asking experts fr advice.
C. By turning t Micrsft fr help.D. By cperating with ther scientists.
35. What is the existing challenge with the new apprach?
A. It prcesses at a lwer speed.B. It csts t much time and mney.
