Why Can’t I Get This Sng Out f My Head?
“I Remember Everything is my favrite sng. It’s sft and tuching. But I have had it stuck in my head fr tw weeks and it’s making me crazy. Why is this happening?” asked a 7th grade student.
Yu’re nt alne! This is a cmmn thing called an “earwrm” and it can happen t peple all the time.
Scientists are trying t find ut why earwrms happen. One thing they knw is that sngs that get stuck in ur heads are usually nes we’ve listened t nt lng ag. But it can als happen if yu hear a wrd r a sund that reminds yu f a sng.
Sme sngs are mre likely t get stuck in ur heads. Fr example, sngs with a fast beat seem t stick mre easily. The mre we hear a sng, the mre likely it is t becme an earwrm.
“Yet sngs usually nly tend t cause earwrms when yu’re ding certain kinds f activities,” Dr. Hyman said. In ne f his studies, researchers had participants (参与者) listen t a well-knwn sng. The next day, the researchers asked them under what situatin the sng went back int their heads.
The results shwed that sngs were mst likely t appear as earwrms when the tasks caused a wandering mind. “Such activities can include walking, shwering r ding dishes.” Dr. Hyman said. But mre difficult tasks, like hard schlwrk, can als cause a wandering mind. The reasn culd be that we have mre space in ur brain fr earwrms when we aren’t ttally fcused n the task at hand.
Nw, yu might be wndering hw t get rid f an earwrm. One thing yu can try is chewing gum (口香糖). Maybe it’s because chewing gum uses up the same parts f the brain that play the earwrm. Anther idea is t change yur state f mind. Talking t smene yu dn’t knw very well might help yu frget the earwrm.
The next time yu have a sng stuck in yur head, remember that it’s a cmmn thing. And keep explring and find which way wrks best fr yu!
Remember, earwrms are a part f life, and they shw that ur brains are remembering things. It’s all part f the fascinating way ur minds wrk.
24.Why des the writer use the example f the 7th grade student in Paragraph 1?
      A. T share a beautiful sng.
      B. T intrduce the idea f earwrms.

      D. T describe a prblem f junir students.
      25.Dr. Hyman’s research in Paragraph 5 is t _________.
      A. lk int hw ppular sngs lead t earwrms
      B. explain why certai sngs causeearrms easily
      C. cme up with useful ways t get rid f earwrms
      D. find ut when earwrms are mre likely t happen

      D. Slw and sft sngs are mre likely t cause earwrms.

Are yu a gd judge r just judgmental? In ur daily life, exercising gd judgment is necessary, but being judgmental isn’t.
Judgment is a natural part f decisin-making. Yu see a line f cars during mrning rush hur and judge that there will nt be enugh time t stp fr cffee. Hwever, exercising judgment can pssibly mve int being judgmental. Judgmental peple make far-reaching prnuncement based n limited infrmatin. We all knw such peple. “Anyne wh is rich is surely a gd businessman!”“ Hip-hp fans dn’t knw the first thing abut music!”
Nne f us can help frming pinins f ther peple. S hw des judgmental thinking differ frm making judgments? Judgmental peple state their views in authritative (专断的) terms; they judge what is right and wrng, what shuld and shuld nt be, what is gd r bad. Making a simple judgment, hwever, des nt carry these minus vertnes. “Billy has bad table manners” is a judgment. A judgmental persn wuld add smething such as “Therefre, he was raised by a pr family!”
Mst peple realize that being judgmental is an unattractive quality. If yu lk arund, yu’ll find that mst judgmental peple are disliked and avided. Als, just as we can frm wrng pinins f thers, being judgmental can lead us t feel negative abut urselves. When we stp being judgmental, we ften discver a higher level f persnal happiness.
Why are we judgmental smetimes? One pssible explanatin fr ur judgmental nature is that we feel unsure abut urselves. By putting thers dwn r pinting ut their prblems, we may feel a sense f superirity (优越). Hwever, this mindset hlds back ur persnal grwth in the lng run and prevents us frm frming meaningful cnnectins with thers. Anther reasn fr judgmental behavir is scietal cnditining. We are cntinually flded with media messages that set unrealistic standards f beauty, success, and happiness. As a result, we may accept these perfect ideas and prject them nt thers, leading t unkind judgments based n surface-level standards instead f true understanding.
In rder t vercme ur judgmental tendencies (趋势), it’s imprtant t practice empathy (同理心) and pen-mindedness. This invlves actively trying t understand thers’ viewpints and experiences withut jumping t cnclusins r making quick judgments. By accepting differences and the idea that everyne is n their wn jurney, we can develp empathy and acceptance fr urselves and thse arund us.
Nne f us are perfect. We all have rm fr grwth and imprvement. Let’s be kinder and mre understanding peple wh raise up rather than tear dwn thers.
27.Accrding t the passage, which f the fllwing is a gd judgment?
      A. “She has gt a big kitchen s she cks well.”
      B. “Peple wh dress well wrk in famus cmpanies.”
      C. “It’s snwing heavily s we can build a big snwman.”
      D. “His gd table manners shw he was brn in a rich family.”
28.What d the wrds “minus vertnes” in Paragraph 3 mst prbably mean?
      A. Unpredictable infrmatin.B. Unnecessary cnsideratin.
      C. Unreasnable requirements.D. Unpleasant suggestin.
29.Which f the fllwing wuld the writer mst prbably agree with?
      A. Peple’s judgmental nature results in their true understanding.
      B. Peple wh have impractical standards may act judgmentally.
      C. Exercising judgment mre ften can help peple avid being judgmental.
      D. Judgmental thinking makes peple develp relatinships with thers.
30.What is the writer’s main purpse in writing this passage?
      A. T stress the imprtance f being kind t urselves.
      B. T encurage us t frm cnnectins with ther peple.
      C. T remind us t stay psitive when we exercise judgment.
