      The study began with taste tests f mre than 100 types f tmates. Scientists identified 33 key cmpunds (化合物) that create flavr. They then examined these cmpunds in 400 tmat varieties frm arund the wrld and carried ut detailed genetic research. In the prcess, they fund 49 genes linked t tmat flavr, including tw that cntrl sugar levels.
      The key discvery was that turning ff these tw genes culd raise sugar levels by up t 30%. Mre imprtantly, this change des nt affect the tmates’ size, lk, r prductin. “This result shws the pssibility f using the great genetic variety fund in wild species, which has been partly lst in cultivated (人工种植的) varieties, t imprve mdern nes,” said Christphe Rthan, a fruit bilgist at the French Natinal Institute f Agricultural Research.
