Her dream came true in 1957, when she visited a friend in Kenya and met Dr. Luis Leakey, a scientist studying human rigins. Impressed by her passin, Leakey invited her t study chimpanzees at the Gmbe Stream Reserve in Tanzania — a
challenge she eagerly accepted.
At 26, with nly a ntebk, binculars, and a desire t explre, Gdall devted herself in Gmbe’s chimpanzee habitat. She acted as a “neighbr” rather than a distant bserver, starting her landmark wild chimpanzee study. Over the next six decades, her research led t eye-pening discveries: chimpanzees are far mre intelligent than nce thught, as they can use tls and hunt fr meat, and they frm friendships and shw srrw fr lst cmpanins.
In 1977, she established the Jane Gdall Institute (JGI). This glbal rganizatin has three key rles t prtect wildlife and supprt cmmunities. First, it cntinues the lng-running field research at Gmbe. The research gathers scientific data, and this data directly guides chimpanzee prtectin wrk. JGI als wrks clsely with lcal cmmunities wrldwide. If yu’re struggling t cme up with smething yu’re grateful fr this year, here’s smething that can be celebrated: Artificial intelligence is changing medicine greatly.
AI is still in its infancy (初期), yet it is already shwing prmise t transfrm hw physicians d their jbs. Take,
fr example, cancer screenings. A review f studies fund AI culd cut in half the miss rate fr ptential cancer and reduce the wrklad f X-ray dctrs by 68 percent. The benefit here is tw-part: The technlgy can help identify cancer at earlier stages. It is als better at determining which tumrs (肿瘤) are harmless, limiting the number f unnecessary and expensive tests that patients must g thrugh (nt t mentin the anxiety that cmes with the
prcedures).
And that’s just the start. In 2022, it is reprted that abut 6 percent f the mre than 130 millin peple wh g t emergency rms every year are misdiagnsed (误诊). AI has the ptential t significantly reduce thse tragedies. A recent study ut f Bstn cmparing the perfrmance f chatbt-assisted physicians in diagnsing patients t just chatbts themselves fund that the bts perfrmed much better. AI can als speed up care in emergency settings. Hspitals that used AI t detect strkes (中风) frm a patient’s brain scans were able t reduce almst 40 minutes befre a surgen culd take actin. That’s precius time critical fr saving lives. Hwever, the use f AI in healthcare is nt t get rid f humans in medicine; it is t prvide medical staff with better tls t aid patients. And it culd free up physicians’ time devted t dull rutine tasks.
Putting this technlgy int medicine will surely run int prblems. Many peple are likely t be dubtful abut it, and sme might fear it will make visits t the dctr even less persnal than they already are.
The develpment f AI has arused great alarm in recent years. It’s really awesme pwer deserves cautin, but nt fear. We can take cmfrt in the fact that, when it cmes t medicine, AI has prven t be beneficial — and is likely t remain s.

Increase the cure rate f harmful cancer.B. Free patients frm ptential cancer.

A. Critical.B. Dubtful.C. Favrable.D. Unclear.
Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the text?

Generatin Z (Gen Z), peple brn between the mid-1990s and early 2010s, desn’t cmpletely reject the way mdern ecnmies wrk. Instead, they demand that this system be mre respnsible—especially when it cmes t the “wealth cntract (契约)” between individuals and cmpanies. This desire fr respnsibility has a clear reasn: a big gap between what Gen Z was tld life wuld lk like, and what they’re actually ging thrugh.
Saad Amer, funder f an envirnmental cnsulting firm, pints ut that yung peple were taught a “generatinal fable”: spend years and savings n higher educatin, secure a stable career and eventually wn a huse—a rutine nce seen as a reliable path t financial security.
Yet 2024 husing market data tells a different stry: the average age f first-time U. S. hmebuyers reached 38 (the highest n recrd), and 52% f Gen Z renters are struggling with high rent—spending ver 30% f their mnthly incme n rent, a level cnsidered “financially stressful” in husing research.
This difference between expectatin and real-life experience has reshaped what Gen Z wants frm wrk. They dn’t just want “gd pay”—they are eager fr fair wealth sharing; salaries linked t clear, public perfrmance rules, prmtins decided by measurable wrk results, and jb security that desn’t disappear when a cmpany’s prfits drp. They firmly reject “perfrmative benefits” like free snacks r yga classes, seeing these extras as tricks that
take their fcus away frm lw salaries and unclear career grwth paths. Charlene Li, an expert wh studies wrkplace trends, ntes: “Gen Z desn’t hate hard wrk—they hate wrking hard fr a system that hides hw wealth is made and wh can benefit frm it.”
Fr cmpanies, if they ignre these demands, they’ll keep lsing yung wrkers. Gen Z sees their jbs as part f wh they are. They wn’t take jbs that make them chse between “earn a living” and “sticking t what they believe is right.” In ther wrds, they dn’t just ask, “Hw much will I get paid?” They want t knw, “Will this jb give me lng-term security? And des the cmpany treat its wrkers fairly, even when it’s making mney?”
What des the “generatinal fable” assume?
Rent burden is a shrt-term prblemB. Higher educatin ensures ecnmic security
C. Cmpanies prmise lng-term financial safetyD. Gen Z values higher educatin t secure a jb
Why are the data mentined in paragraph 3?
T prve Gen Z struggles t wn a huse
T suggest the U. S. needs stricter rent cntrl.
T demnstrate the generatinal fable fails in reality
T shw Gen Z’s husing csts are high
What des the underlined wrd “perfrmative” in Paragraph 4 prbably mean?
A. N-valueB. High-cstC. Just-fr-shwD. Wrk-related
What des Gen Z demand frm cmpanies?
High pay and career chicesB. Earning a living and easy tasks
C. Cmpany prfits and wrker rightsD. Wrkplace fairness and jb security

Is persnal play speed just a matter f preference? A recent advertisement fr Audible, an audibk (有声书) platfrm, labeled Glen Pwell, wh listens at 1x speed, as “nrmal” while describing Bwen Yang, wh prefers 2x speed, “strange”. 36 A TikTk user said, “I listened t this judgmental (妄下断言的) ad at 2x speed.” Sme
peple felt “shamed” and said they wuld stp using the platfrm.
37 A survey by The Ecnmist prves this difference: 31% f Americans aged 18-29 listen t audi
faster than 1x. Only 8% f thse aged 45 and ver d s. This trend can be seen in platfrm features, frm newspapers t YuTube, which even added a 4x ptin recently.
The main reasn is usually the wish fr greater effectiveness. 38 If yu had a ten-hur jurney, yu
culd listen t “Persuasin” in eight hurs and 13 minutes at 1x speed. But, if yu clicked 1.5x, yu’d hear all abut it in five and a half hurs, leaving space fr “The Little Prince”.
Mre imprtantly, listening faster desn’t seem t affect listeners’ understanding. The average persn speaks at a rate f abut 150 wrds per minute, but mst brains can deal with infrmatin faster, says Marcus Pearce, a cgnitive scientist at Queen Mary University. 39 . Further research at the University f Waterl fund
students’ cmprehensin remained stable up t 1.5x speed.
Fr platfrms ffering play speed ptins has n disadvantage. Fr listeners, hwever, the experience differs
greatly. A skilled reading alud relies n an artful use f tne, pauses and rhythm (节奏) t stress key pints and express meaning. 40.
A. The cmparisn quickly drew public anger.
B. This difference is why faster listening wrks.
C. The skill f prcessing fast speech imprves with practice.
D. Platfrms benefit as users finish mre cntent at higher speeds.
E But speeding up t much may cause the lss f artistic quality.

G. YuTube claims that its viewers cllectively save ver 900 years per day.

This desire fr respnsibility has a clear reasn: a
big gap between what Gen Z was tld life wuld lk like, and what they’re actually ging thrugh.
