Similar vides have been fund acrss different scial media platfrms, warning that wireless earbuds can cause cancer, memry lss, tiredness and ther health prblems.
A few scial platfrms have remved these vides, stating they spread medical misinfrmatin. But is there any truth t these warnings? Are yu risking yur health fr the cnvenience f wireless headphnes, r are yu increasing yur risk fr brain cancer?
“This is a very cmmn wrry and a questin that I hear ften frm my patients: They want t knw if their phnes r earbuds caused their brain cancer,” says Dr Naveed Wagle, a neur-nclgist. “The shrt answer is it’s prbably nt the nly cause,” Dr Wagle says, “but we dn’t have enugh infrmatin yet t say fr sure r t knw if it’s a cause.”
While wireless technlgy has been there since the late 1990s, wireless earbuds have nly cme n the scene in the past few years. This shrt perid means that there’s a lt f scientists wh still just dn’t knw abut the lng-term health influences, especially fr peple wh use them fr hurs every day.

In fact, a study shwed that 94% f lab rats preferred sweetened water t ccaine ( 可卡因 ). While sugar is nt as harmful, it influences ur brain in a similar way, bringing us pleasure and making us want mre.
It’s natural fr ur bdies t ask fr sugar. Hwever, unlike fruits and vegetables, sme fds have high amunts f sugar added t them. Accrding t Dr. Vera Tarman, this can make eating sugar addictive—similar t hw cca leaves were safe, but ccaine was dangerus. “Signs include thinking abut sweets all the time, eating even when full.” Dr. Tarman said, “many peple feel a meal isn’t cmplete withut dessert—it becmes a habit.”
T much sugar can harm yur health, leading t heart prblems, headaches, and lw energy. What’s wrse, it can keep yur bld sugar high, making yu feel tired and unwell. T break the habit, Dr. Tarman suggests stpping sugar cmpletely rather than slwly cutting dwn n it. The first five days may be difficult—yu might feel easily annyed r have truble sleeping. But by the secnd week, these feelings weaken. By the third week, yu wn’t even miss sugar.
“Start family-wide dietary imprvements by eliminating sugary fd intake, develping healthier eating habits fr all members. After a meal, d smething else, like drinking tea r taking a walk, t avid reaching fr sweets.” said Dr. Tarman, “Keep telling yurself why yu’re quitting—maybe t build energy r lse weight, and ask a friend t supprt yu.”

Many f us have gtten int the habit f listening t pdcasts, audibks and ther nline cntent at increased playback speeds. 36 One survey f students in Califrnia, fr example, shwed that 89% changed the playback speed f nline lectures, while there are plenty f articles abut hw cmmn speedy viewing has becme.
It is easy t think f sme advantages t watching things mre quickly. It can let yu enjy mre cntent in the same time, r g thrugh the same piece f cntent several times t get the mst ut f it. 37 It might free up time fr cnslidating ( 巩固) knwledge r ding practice tests. Watching quickly is als a gd way f making sure yu fcus n what yu’re up t.
38 It turns ut that there are ne r tw f thse as well. Researchers pint ut that prcessing ( 处理) speech infrmatin in humans includes three steps f memry: receiving the infrmatin, string it, and later understanding it. During the prcess, the brain needs time t cllect the cntinuus speech, deal with wrds in real time and then understand their meanings.
Peple generally speak at a speed f abut 150 wrds per minute, thugh dubling the speed t 300 r even tripling it t 450 wrds is still understandable. 39 At higher speaking speed, listeners may get the immediate meaning but stre less infrmatin ver time.
Incming infrmatin is stred fr a certain time in ur memry, waiting t be rerganized and turned int a frm that is ready fr the lng-term memry. Because memry space is limited, if t much infrmatin arrives t quickly it can be hard t deal with. 40
But what abut the disadvantages?
This leads t brain verlad and lss f infrmatin.
Fr yunger peple, it might even be the cmmn case.
This culd be especially useful in an educatinal backgrund.
Speeding up may save time, but it can weaken deep understanding.
The questin is mre abut the quality f the memries that we frm.
Fast listening might imprve scial cmmunicatin amng yung peple.

Dear Adam,
Thank yu s much fr yur thughtful letter. It’s true that we’re currently making the imprtant decisin abut which subjects t fcus n, and I really appreciate yur cncern.
