As a senir resident, I ften distributed pems t my team, printing and psting them abve the cmputers in ur hspital wrkrms. Once, during a rare quiet mment in the ICU, with permissin frm my clleagues, I read a cuple f pems ut lud. I remember watching my clleagues' eyes clse and their bdies visibly relax as the wrds washed ver them.
Since then, I have shared pems—— my wn and thers’—— in talks at my institutin and acrss the cuntry. I' ve als led ther healthcare prviders in creative writing exercises during wrkshps, lectures and classes. Many institutins hst bk clubs, stry slams, film screenings and ther pprtunities fr medical learners t engage with the humanities(人文学科).
While petry can be frightening t sme, many cntemprary pems prvide apprachable emtinal experiences. Pieces like Safiya Sinclair’s “Ntes n the State f Virginia” fully illustrate hw a place that seems inncent r even beautiful t sme can be upsetting t thers. Mnica Sk’s “ABC fr Refugees” pwerfully paints a prtrait f a yung child caught between languages and cultures—a reality that many pediatric(儿科的) patients face. “Ode t Small Twns” by Tyree Daye verturns cmmn assumptins abut rural life. In “Medical Histry”, Nicle Sealey shares a patient’ s perspective n a part f health care that, fr many f my students and clleagues, has been reduced t a series f check bxes n a cmputer screen. These and ther pems prvide fertile grund fr enhanced understanding f the human cnditin, as well as inspiratin fr a clinician's wn ptentially transfrmative reflective writing.
The pssibilities fr cperatin between literature and medicine are wide pen. I believe all clinicians have a rle in recgnizing and dealing with hw everyne has been shaped by an unreasnable sciety. The histry, sciplitical cntext, imaginative perspective and reflective practices the humanities ffer may imprve the practice f medicine. Thrugh understanding thers’ experiences and reflecting critically n their wn, every clinician can mve clser t being the kind f healer they intend t be.
24. What can we infer abut the authr's practice f sharing pems?
A. It started in the ICU and has expanded t multiple settings.
B. It fcuses nly n creating riginal pems fr medical teams.
C. It has replaced ther humanities activities in medical institutins.
D. It is mainly carried ut thrugh public lectures acrss the cuntry.
25. Whse pem may change peple's beliefs abut the cuntryside?
A. Mnica Sk’ s.B. Tyree Daye's.
C. Safiya Sinclair's.D. Nicle Sealey's.
26. What des Nicle Sealey's wrk seem t imply?
A. Dctrs shuld have better medical skills.
B. It's urgent t upgrade the medical equipment.
C. There's rm fr imprvement in medical care.
D. A patient can be treated frm different perspectives.
27. Which statement des the authr prbably agree with?
A. The humanities help make a better dctr.
B. The clinicians are t shape ur future sciety.
C. Dctrs must learn frm each ther's experiences.
D. Reflective writing greatly benefits a dctr's skills.

A watched pt never bils, but time has wings when yu’re having fun. The familiar saying has a basis in slid science — ur sense f time des expand and cntract depending n the way we experience the wrld. Even delicate visual features can affect hw we perceive time. New research shws mre memrable images seem t last lnger.
Martin Wiener, head f the research, says the finding helps reveal hw the brain’s time-bending strategy allws it t prcess and remember mre infrmatin. While what is actually happening in the brain when time seems t expand remains unclear, scientists suspect it may have smething t d with helping the brain prcess mre infrmatin in limited time.
This is especially relevant fr the brain’s visual system which, subjected t infrmatin verlad, has t rank in rder f imprtance, allwing fr limited resurces. Recent research has shwn sme images are mre naturally memrable than thers.
T understand hw this memrability f an image, alng with a few simpler visual features such as scene size and disrder, might relate t ur subjective sense f time, Wiener and his clleagues cnducted related experiments, in which subjects were shwn images with varying duratins and were asked t categrize whether the length f time n the screen was either “shrt” r “lng”. The next day they were given a surprise memry test t see which images they recalled seeing.
The researchers fund larger scene sizes seemed t extend time while mre disrderly scenes seemed t cntract it. Besides, the subjects perceived mre memrable images remained n the screen lnger, even if they were all presented fr the same amunt f time. T find the underlying factr, the team fed the same memrability-ranked images t a neural netwrk mdeled after the brain’s visual system and fund mre memrable images were prcessed faster.
The explanatin fr why ur brain’s faster prcessing wuld slw time is that it’s increasing the amunt f infrmatin it can take in at nce. Limited resurces t prcess infrmatin may act as a srt f bttleneck, which the brain can widen when it needs t absrb mre infrmatin, thus dilating time.
28. What des the saying “A watched pt never bils" describe?
A. The unnticed passage f time.
B. The feeling that time hangs heavy.
C. The hardship f preparing cuisine.
D. The perceptin that time is cnfusing.
29. Hw des the brain's visual system handle infrmatin?
A. By srting randmly.B. By cmparing similar scenes.
C. By setting pririties.D. By screening ut cmplex images.
30. Which f the images seems t last lngest if shwn n the screen fr an equal duratin based n the study?
31. What is the main purpse f the text?
A. T cntrast sayings with scientific findings.
B. T explain visual features' effect n memry.
C. T describe the brain's infrmatin prcessing in time perceptin.
D. T explre the link between image memrability and subjective time.

“There are between 10 and 50 billin ptentially habitable wrlds in ur galaxy”, says Bill Diamnd. He is the chief executive f the US based research rganizatin SETI (Search fr Extraterrestrial Intelligence). “SETI is lking fr science and technlgy beynd the slar system as the evidence f life and intelligence, and that’s by and large a needle in a haystack prblem,” Mr Diamnd says. “We’re lking fr smething that is likely exceedingly rare and may be very difficult t find and extract frm the backgrund phenmena that yu’re bserving at the same time.”
But the ability f AI t bth handle massive datasets and t spt anmalies (异常现象) is transfrming the hunt fr alien intelligence. Mr Diamnd pints t AI enabling the search fr new types f radi signals frm aliens. Traditinally, SETI has lked fr narrwband (窄频的) signals like thse used by humans. “But there was always the questin, ‘What if there’s an alien advanced technlgy that is using wideband radi?’ And if that’s the case, ur traditinal methds wuldn’t wrk; it wuld lk like a bunch f nise n the screen.” Hwever, Mr Diamnd says that the ability f AI t handle massive amunts f data means it’s pssible t take millins f “snapshts” f the snwy audi picture ver time, and t start t lk fr patterns.
Researcher Peter Ma develped an AI system t examine telescpe data and distinguish between pssible alien signals and interference. His team simulated bth types f nise and trained the AI t identify them. Mr Ma says that an alien signal can, fr example, nly appear when we pint ur telescpes at it and disappear when we pint away. The prject has already identified eight ptential alien signals that went undetected by traditinal analysis. Hwever, Mr Ma believes that as the bservatins haven’t yet been repeated, they are prbably false psitives.
It’s early days, and any prmising results generated by AI need t be cnfirmed by ther bservatins, r by physics-based mdels, befre they can be shuted frm the rftps. But as mre and mre data are cllected and analyzed, the chances f detecting alien life — if it exits — are increasing all the time..
32. What is paragraph 1 mainly abut?
A. The challenge f sptting aliens.
B. The existence f alien intelligence.
C. The capability f artificial intelligence.
D. The ambitin t explre the slar system.
33. What des Mr Diamnd want t prve by mentining “wideband radi” in paragraph 2?
A. The high IQ f aliens.
B. The ccurrence f new patterns.
C. The ptential fr the applicatin f AI.
D. The deafening narrwband signal surces.
34. What will Mr Ma depend n t judge his discvery?
A. The identified data.B. The simulated nise.
C. The cnventinal analysis.D. The repetitive signals.
35. What des the underlined part in the last paragraph mean?
A. Befre they can be made public.
B. Befre they can be put int massive use.
C. Befre they can be generated by physicists.
D. Befre they can be cnfirmed under bservatin.
