      Mst children lve stries. Stries are entertaining and fun, but can they be mre than just fun? Findings frm a new study led by Rebecca de Leeuw, an assistant prfessr at the Radbud University, indicate stries in mvies can als be meaningful fr children.
      The researchers cntacted children between 4 and 15years ld after they watched the Disney film Inside Out. This film takes place mainly in the head f an 11-year-ld girl, where her emtins — Jy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, persnified as different characters — cnflict n hw t help her best in her new life after her family mves. The stry fllws the “her’s jurney” — a classical narrative (叙事的) framewrk, which invlves a her wh ges n an adventure, vercmes challenges, and return s changed. S the research team chse this film. When making this film, the film-makers had in-depth discussins with psychlgists t make the emtin animatin cnsistent with scientific knwledge.
      The research team asked mstly pen-ended questins t encurage the children t share their thughts, including the key questin: “Was there a part f the mvie yu had t think abut?” Children lked at stills f imprtant scenes and were invited t explain in their wn wrds what happened. If they liked, they als rewatched scenes f the film.
      While watching, children made sense f the feelings, mtives and behavir f characters in the film, using their scial intelligence skills. They als further develped these skills when they were challenged in making sense f the stry. Children als mentined they appreciated seeing acts f pity, kindness, lve and bravery in the film. Just like adults, they were even tuched t tears by these qualities.
      One f the children in the study even expressed that Jy inspired her t never quit in her wn life. The mre insights children gained while watching, the mre meaningful the stry became fr them. Altgether, stries in mvies can be a quick way fr children t gain life experience and wisdm.

      A medical breakthrugh in China is giving new hpe t peple with spinal crd injuries (脊髓损伤). Scientists have created a brain-spinal chip (芯片) that allws paralyzed (瘫痪的) patients t mve their legs, and even walk again.
