Recently, mre than 1,000 researchers and executives signed an pen letter calling fr a pause (暂停) in research n artificial intelligence. The letter warns that AI may threaten jbs, spread prpaganda (宣传), and even lead t the “lss f cntrl f ur civilizatin”. Many f the signatries (签署者) are thughtful and experienced AI practitiners. Their cncerns shuld be taken seriusly. On balance, thugh, their apprach is likely t evlve int an ppsitin t prgress.
Cnsider the brader wrldview expressed in this dcument. It said, “Pwerful AI systems shuld be develped nly nce we are cnfident that their effects will be psitive and risks manageable.” This is a frmula fr cmplete stp, as n ne can ever be s cnfident. The histry f innvatin is ne f trial and errr, risk and reward. One reasn why the US leads the wrld in digital technlgy is that it did nt cnstrain (约束) the industry with well-meaning but dubtful regulatin. Slwing Al prgress, mrever, carries risks all its wn. Dn't frget that this technlgy is likely t make the wrld richer, healthier, smarter and mre prductive fr decades t cme. By 2030, it might be cntributing mre than $15 trillin t the glbal ecnmy. Advances in medicine, bilgy, climate science, educatin, manufacturing, transprtatin and much mre are n the hrizn. Any new rules must be balanced against the vast ptential f these effrts.
Nr is AI research advancing int a vid (空白领域). The industry already perates within legal parameters (范畴) in respnse t ptential harms. Cmpanies have ensured their prducts are safe. Trade assciatins are develping cdes f cnduct and ethical framewrks. Far frm the“ ut-f-cntrl race”, the AI business is cnstrained by law and plitics and cnsumer sentiment (情绪).
It's natural t wrry abut new technlgies, but the wealth and abundance f American sciety is due in n small part t risks taken in the past, in a spirit f penness and ptimism. The AI revlutin deserves n less.

A.Because the research n AI had been paused.
B.Because AI had uncntrllably destryed human civilizatin.
C.Because they were wrried abut the ptential risks f AI.
D.Because they were mre experienced than thers in AI field.
5.Why is the US mentined in paragraph 2?

B.T stress that the US is very imprtant in the digital field.
      C.T draw attentin t the benefits f well-meaning regulatins.
D.T reveal thse peple's real purpse f signing the letter.
6.What can we infer frm this passage?
A.Al technlgy cnsumes mre mney than it can earn.
B.Sciety will hugely benefit frm AI technlgy in the future.
C.The AI industry is nw develping withut any restrictins.
D.The develpment f AI technlgy is just a sl effrt.
7.What is the passage mainly abut?

B.The future f AI is filled with unmanageable risks.
C.AI safety cncerns justify a temprary research pause.
D.A pause in AI wuld hld back prgress in innvatin.

It really made me aware f hw different I was frm my friends. But fr my parents, it brught back memries f their hme cuntry and it was a cnnectin t their hmeland that they had left behind.”
The feeling f being ashamed f ur parents is universal. We’ve prbably all experienced that at sme pint. “I remember walking 20 feet behind my parents when we were walking dwn the street, pretending that I didn’t belng t them,” Wang laughs.
The pictures in Watercress have drawn inspiratin frm Chinese landscape paintings, which ften have muntains cvered in cluds. “It always has felt dreamlike t me when I lk at thse paintings. And I thught it wuld be nice t bring it int my bk because f its theme f memry,” Wang explains.
Unlike the little girl in the stry, Andrea Wang didn’t hear any stry abut her parents’ childhds until she was an adult. “My parents were trying t prtect me, by nt telling me the hardships they went thrugh,” Wang says.
But as a kid, Wang remembers feeling discnnected frm her histry. “I think it’s really imprtant fr families t share what they can,” Wang says. “S that kids knw that histry and can feel a sense f pride in their culture.”

Everywhere I lk, there are new buildings under cnstructin. The neighbrhds that I knew as a by, filled with beautiful ld buildings, have mstly disappeared, and in their place, mdern, high-rise buildings have appeared. There is gd reasn fr this. Residents want all the cnveniences f mdern living. Hwever, hw can ur children understand and maintain their cultural identity if we erase s much f the physical evidence f it?
The arguments fr preserving histric buildings are nt simply abut an emtinal attachment t the past. There are als gd ecnmic arguments in favur f preservatin. The renvatin (修缮) and preservatin f histric districts can becme an ecnmic engine, drawing turists and small businesses t the area. Fr example, in Dubai, the histric Al Bastikiya district draws thusands f turists every year frm all ver the wrld. It als attracts lcal residents, eager t learn abut their city's past.
Sme have argued that histric preservatin is t expensive, but many recent prjects have demnstrated that this is nt necessarily the case. In fact, renvatin f an existing structure fr adaptive reuse can cst abut £40 per square metre less than even the mst basic new cnstructin, while preserving the beauty f the riginal building. And, althugh it is ften claimed that ld buildings have a mre significant envirnmental ftprint than new cnstructin because they aren’t very energy efficient, architects and envirnmental experts maintain that the greenest building is the ne that is already built. New cnstructin almst always has a mre serius envirnmental impact (影响) because it requires the use f all-new materials that must be transprted, ften ver lng distances, instead f recycled materials that are already n site. We recycle s many ther things. We can and shuld recycle buildings, t.
Histric preservatin is an ptin that pens many pssibilities; demlitin (拆毁), in cntrast, is irreversible. Once these treasures are lst, they are lst frever, an imprtant link in ur heritage that can never be recvered.
12.What drives peple t replace ld buildings with new nes?
A.Their dislike f ld buildings.B.Their pride in cultural identity.
C.Their cncern abut yung generatins.D.Their desire fr mdern cmfrts.
13.What des the example f Al Bastikiya shw?
      A.Histric renvatin csts much mney.
      B.Lcal gvernments supprt small businesses.
      C.Histric preservatin brings ecnmic benefits.
      D.Internatinal turism prmises ecnmic recvery.
14.What can be inferred abut renvating ld buildings frm paragraph 3?
A.It uses green materials.B.It damages architectural beauty.
C.It reduces envirmental impact.D.It wrries envirnmental experts.
15.What is the authr’s attitude twards histric preservatin?
      A.Psitive.B.Dubtful.C.Disapprving.D.Objective.
