Why Use It?
The main purpse f this tl is t raise awareness abut hw daily actins impact the planet. It shws the hidden effects f things we d every day, helping peple understand their persnal cntributin t climate change. This awareness is an essential first step tward adpting a mre ec-friendly lifestyle. In additin, the calculatr ffers persnalized and practical tips t reduce yur emissins(排放)—— many f which can als help yu save mney.

Recently, I spent time with my 14-mnth-ld grandsn, Thedre. It was an eye-pening experience because, as a grandfather,I was able t play and interact with him withut having t balance ther respnsibilities. His parents were mre than happy t let him and me play while they caught up n sme sleep.
His days were full f explratin and inquiry. Every drawer and cupbard had all srts f new stuff that needed t be taken ut, examined, smetimes thrwn and smetimes put carefully away. It brught back memries as he went thrugh the same drawers his father had explred ver 30 years ag.
But what struck me the mst were the hurs f cncentratin trying ut new stuff and wrking t understand what was happening. He spent a lng time playing with five stacking rings. He didn't just stack(摞起来) them. He drpped them nt the carpet where they stayed still, and n the hard flr where they rlled. He went back and frth, testing hw each ring behaved in different places. He watched clsely every time.
Thedre was always bserving, thinking, and learning. It reminded me that when we' re very yung, we' re all great learners. But as we grw lder, many f us lse that mtivatin.Instead f thinking critically, we' ll try t fit whatever new infrmatin we might encunter int ur existing wrldview instead f expanding ur hrizns.
The wrld changes. If we dn't keep up, we fall behind. Hw can yu have relevant pinins when yu dn't understand the issue itself? Peple are satisfied with what they knew years ag, r what they heard frm an article titled" Experts say..". Peple lack the mtivatin t questin what they hear r t understand different pints f view. We can't investigate everything like Thedre, but we can stay curius. Being a successful creative persn demands that we be lifelng learners.
4. What can we infer frm Thedre's explratin in paragraph 2?
A. He was lking fr his father's ld tys.
B. He was creating disrder withut any purpse.
He was helping grandparents with husewrk.
D. He was naturally curius abut his envirnment.
5. Hw did Thedre try t understand the rings?
A. By lining them up t prevent falling.
B. By fllwing instructins frm adults.
C. By cncentrating n making them stand still.
D. By bserving mvements n different surfaces.
6. What makes adults fall behind accrding t the authr?
A. A fear f ding things wrng.
B. A lack f curisity t explre.
C. A distractin f varius activities.
D. A distrust in prvided infrmatin.
7. What is the authr's purpse in telling Thedre's stry?
A. T describe a grandparent's rle.
B. T mtivate peple t keep learning.
C. T prve that early educatin is vital.
D. T shw hw curisity is passed dwn.

D yu have truble recgnising faces, r d yu never frget a face? Accrding t a new study, if yu are better at face recgnitin, yu are likely t have mre supprtive relatinships. This is true regardless f ur persnality type.
An internatinal research team ran several studies invlving mre than 3,000 peple.Participants were asked t memrise new faces r identify the faces f famus peple. The results shwed that thse wh scred higher tended t have clser and mre supprtive relatinships. Fr example, peple wh recgnised mre faces reprted having much mre clse friends. As lead researcher Dr. Laura nted,“Peple wh identified mre faces typically had larger supprtive scial netwrks.”
Interestingly, the study fund that facial recgnitin skill is nt tied t hw sciable a persn is. Being utging desn't guarantee a gd memry fr faces.“Our findings rule ut the idea that being sciable means yu' ll prbably be great at recgnising faces. It als helps t dispel the cmmn wrng idea that if yu dn't recgnise smene, yu are less sciable,”Dr. Laura explained.
Why des facial recgnitin skill matter? Recgnising smene helps build trust and cnnectin. If yu remember a persn yu' ve met befre, it's easier t cntinue yur cnversatin and strengthen yur relatinship. It als makes the ther persn feel valued. On the ther hand, if yu dn't recgnise them, they may feel ignred. Yu might lse the chance t deepen the relatinship. Dr. Laura says that being recgnised by smene als develps a persn's self- wrth.
The researchers suggest that small actins can make scial events mre pen t everyne.Fr example, using name tags at schl activities r cmmunity gatherings can help thse wh find it hard t recgnise faces. If smene seems unsure f yur name, a gentle reminder can als make cmmunicatin smther.
8 What did the research shw abut the high scrers f the test?
They had mre famus friends.
8 They enjyed larger scial circles.
7. They shwed better persnality types.
0. They remembered every face they met.
9. What des the underlined wrd“dispel” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Remve.
B. Cnfirm.
C. Challenge.
D. Strengthen.
10. What may happen if ne fails t recgnise smene?
A. It may build up ne s self- wrth.
B. It may create unexpected cnnectins.
C. It may set barriers t a deeper relatinship.
D. It may keep things fresh fr all participants.
11. What d the researchers suggest peple d fr scial events?
A. Train peple t remember names.
B. Use tls t help face-blind peple.
C. Reduce scial gatherings regularly.
D. Remind strangers f discussing tpics.

Americans cnsume 1.6 billin punds f cffee annually. Yet, mre than 70% f it becmes waste 1.1 billin punds f used cffee grunds. These nutrient-rich leftvers inspired Lu( Danl, a researcher at the University f Washingtn, t explre their ptential.Used cffee grunds are full f nutrients, which makes them great fr grwing Mycelium(菌丝体). This white, rt-like structure can jin lse items int a tugh, waterprf, and light-weight prduct.
Lu's team then develped Mycfluid. It is a smth mixture cmbining used cffee grunds, brwn rice flur. mycelium, and ther natural sticky items. They then sht the mixture with mushrm pres (孢子), which can grw ver the bjects t frm that slid skin. The skin turns the cffee grunds—— even when frmed int cmplex shapes—— int a flexible and earth-friendly replacement fr plastics.
The prcess is similar t grwing mushrms at hme: ver 10 days in a wet cntainer, mushrms grew arund the structures. They frmed a prtective shell that held everything tgether and made the material strnger.( nce dried, the final prduct matched plastic in strength but culd fully break dwn. Using a 3D printer, they shaped the Mycfluid int items like packaging r statues.
The material is heavier than plastic yet clser t the thickness f cardbard. It absrbed very little water, held its shape after drying, and culd replace plastic packaging fr delicate items. Meanwhile, all cmpnents are digestible, which helps t reduce plastic pllutin.
Wrking n a large scale(规模) with Mycfluid culd be challenging because it depends n specific types f used cffee grunds. Still, the team is lking atther recycled materials.“This innvatin highlights hw everyday waste culd help fuel a greener future,” said Lu.“Fr example, we can transfrm used cffee int ec-friendly materials using natural grwth prcesses.
12. What mtivated Lu Danl) t start the research?
A. The huge amunt f cffee waste.
B. The high cst f cffee prductin.
C. The nutritinal needs f mycelium.
D. The ppularity f cffee cnsumptin.
13. What is the functin f mushrm spres in creating Mycfluid?
A. T create a prtective layer.
B. T help the material dry quickly.
C. T prvide fd fr the mycelium.
D. T mix with cffee grunds smthly.
14. What can be a brader significance f this innvatin?
A. Advancing 3D printing technlgy
B. Fighting widespread fuel pllutinl
C. Encuraging waste-t-resurce appraches.
D. Achieving cnsistent qualities f cffee beans.
15. What is the best title fr the text?
A. The Challenges f Mycelium Cffee Materials
B. The Envirnmental Impact f Cffee Cnsumptin
C. Cffee Grunds as Nutrients:A 3D Printing Slutin
