Walking hme frm schl, I enjy my day. Each day I stp t listen t music cming frm the climbing plant. The sparrws’ ( 麻雀) sng, lud and glrius, fills the air. The climbing plant dances gently belw a leafless tree, decrating arund the lwer trunk like a celebratin. Sparrws fly nervusly in and ut, tapping n the branches. This climbing plant is a hme fr them, sheltering an entire grup. But this scene is n lnger ubiquitus. Numbers have decreased by almst 70% in the UK since 1970. Sparrws make their hmes near human places and finding a tree like this is a blessing. Happily, the climbing plant is still full f chatter and twitter.
In Greek legend, sparrws are sacred and ften linked with the gddess (女神) Aphrdite, symblizing true lve and spiritual cnnectin. I wnder hw many peple lk at sparrws and feel that depth f cnnectin. All birds live brightly in ur imaginatin, cnnecting us t the natural wrld, pening up all kinds f creativity.
As I stand there, feathered sparrws chatting with each ther, there is a spark. Nticing nature is the start f it all. Slw dwn t listen, t watch. Take the time, despite muntains f hmewrk.
Take the time t bserve nature, t lse yurself in its patterns, structures, happenings and rhythms. It is hw mathematicians and scientists are trained. Alan Turing studied the patterns in nature: the arrangement f petals n the flwer, spts n a lepard and lines n a zebra. He was lking fr a mathematical frmula (公式) fr the develpment f cells in living things. Nature sparks creativity. All we have t d is start with the questin, Why? The way my mind races in nature, r even when “daydreaming” is way mre prductive than the wrk I d in schl.
I center myself by thinking and thinking while clsely watching the mvements f
sparrws. Wh knws where watching sparrws will lead?
What d I d n the way hme frm schl?
Observe the sparrws.B.Decrate the tree.
C.Clean up the trunk.D.Listen t blessing music.
What des the underlined wrd “ubiquitus” in paragraph l prbably mean? A.Significant.B.Attractive.C.Hrrible.D.Cmmn.
What is the authr’s purpse in mentining Greek legend?
T shw the imaginatin f humans.B.T intrduce the pwer f Aphrdite. C.T highlight the significance f sparrws.D.T present the mystery f species.
What can we learn frm paragraph 4 f the text?
Nature prmtes cell develpment.B.Nature fllws fixed patterns. C.Nature ffers cnnectin.D.Nature is a surce f inspiratin.
C
Mst f us learn hw t ride a bike during childhd. But as we grw lder, many f us stp riding and put thse nce-belved bikes away. Years later, when we discver these ld things and jump n, it’s as if we never stpped biking. This is surprising because ur memries fall shrt in s many ther cases, such as remembering the name f a place r a persn we nce knew r where we put ur keys. S hw is it that we can ride a bicycle when we haven’t dne s in years?
The answer has t d with what kinds f memries we’re making. Neurpsychlgist (神经心理学家) Bris Suchan explains that we have tw different kinds f lng-term memry: declarative and prcedural. Within declarative memry are tw subtypes: episdic ( 情景的) and semantic ( 语义的) memry. Episdic memry is the recall f an event in yur life, like ging t a cncert r falling int a hle. Semantic memry, als knwn as factual memry, is knwing that Wrld War II ended in 1945.
But acquiring a skill is part f prcedural memry. Learning hw t drive, play a sprt, r ride a bike are all activities that are stred in anther part f the brain. In thery, it wuld be pssible t suffer a brain injury that culd steal yur memry f riding a bike but keep the part that knws hw t ride the bike. Suppsing the brain part which prcesses ( 处 理 ) nn-declarative memry, is unharmed, yu’ll be able t ride a bicycle withut incident. But why is prcedural memry s strng? That’s less clear t science, althugh ne reasn, Suchan writes, is that the areas in the brain where mvement patterns are frmed experience less nerve cell turnver (更新), helping t keep recall f thse actins.
That’s why yu can always jump n a bike but nt necessarily remember that mvie. D yu still remember the mment when yu first learned hw t ride a bike?
What des the underlined phrase “fall shrt” in paragraph I prbably mean?
Fail.B.Match.C.Flash.D.Vary.
Which f the fllwing belngs t semantic memry?
Mastering swimming skills.B.Recalling a birthday party. C.Knwing the capital f France.D.Picking up a freign language.
What can be learned abut prcedural memry in paragraph 3?
It is less likely t be frgtten.B.It is easily damaged by brain injuries. C.It is well-understd by scientist.D.It has mre frequent nerve cell turnver.
What is the purpse f the passage?
T intrduce a new discvery.B.T argue fr a particular viewpint. C.T describe a persnal experience.D.T explain reasns fr a phenmenn.
D
Over breakfast this mrning, after I enjyed a shrt chat with Mia, my new Spanish study buddy, I felt that I had mastered mre than what I gained frm textbk exercises. Mia, hwever, is an AI that I created t take advantage f a phenmenn called the “prtege effect.” Accrding t several studies, we learn mre effectively when we teach smene else abut the tpic we’ve just explred — even if that persn desn’t really exist.
Learning thrugh teaching was relatively slw t gain ppularity until a grup f scientists in the United States began t test its effectiveness. In ne f the first experiments, Catherine Chase and clleagues tested n 62 eighth-graders wh were tasked with using a cmputer prgram t study the bilgical changes that ccur when we get a fever.
Over tw lessns, they had t read a text and then create a mind-map explaining the different prcesses and the relatinships between them. Fr half the teens, the mind-map presented the result f self-study. The thers were tld that their mind-map wuld help t teach a virtual (虚拟的) character.
It was nt a big difference, but the students in the rle f teacher scred significantly better.
This increased participatin had a big influence: bth the amunt they gt and the depth f their understanding. At the end f the tw classes, participants wh had played the rle f teacher had kept much mre f the material, with much strnger perfrmance n test questins.
Chase’s team named this the “prtege effect” and it has since been studied many times. These later studies suggest that learning by teaching is mre pwerful than ther mnemnic (助记符号) techniques like self-testing. If we knw that thers are ging t learn frm us, we feel a sense f respnsibility t prvide the right infrmatin, s we make a greater effrt t fill in the gaps in ur understanding and crrect any mistaken thughts. Sharing ur knwledge then helps t strengthen what we have learned. Why nt try t apply the prtege effect int practice?
Why des the authr mentin Mia in paragraph 1?
T stress the imprtance f AI.
T share a stry f a study buddy.
T intrduce a phenmenn abut study.
T shw hw t finish textbk exercises.
What was different abut the tw grups in the experiment?
They differ in learning time.B.They differ in learning tls. C.They differ in learning materials.D.They differ in learning appraches.
Why des the “prtege effect” help learning?
Because AI teachers explain things clearly.
Because mind-maps make memrizing easier.
Because teaching inspires deeper understanding.
Because testing yurself is the best way t learn.
What can be a suitable title fr the passage?
Learning by Teaching HelpsB.Textbk Exercises Benefit Mre C.Mind-mapping Imprves MemryD.AI Strengthen Language Learning
第二节(共 5 小题; 每小题 3 分, 满分 15 分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
When traveling, many find themselves in places where the lcal language is unfamiliar. Once, travelers relied n phrasebks, but the spread f English has reduced this need. Hwever, mst peple wrldwide still dn’t speak English. 36 Increasingly, travelers use free translatin apps. These apps allw users t speak int their phnes and receive spken translatins almst instantly, bridging language gaps effectively.
37 Ggle Translate, a well-knwn name, ften makes mistakes. Fr instance, translating “my wife is gluten-free (不能吃面筋)” int French r Italian as “my wife is withut gluten” misses the intended meaning: Hwever, cmpetitrs ffer better chices. 38 It ffers n direct translatins, but cpies a native speaker’s input.
While AI tls make travel easier, sme wrry they discurage language learning. Duglas Hfstadter, a language expert, argues that relying n machines fr cmmunicatin makes peple unable t gain meaningful experiences and accmplishments. Hwever, thers believe mst peple dn’t need fluency fr relaxing travel. 39
As AI translatin gains ppularity, peple may divide int tw grups: thse eager t learn languages fr cultural experience and mental challenge, and thse wh see it as unnecessary effrt. This issue is particularly pressing fr English speakers, as many schls in English-speaking cuntries reduce freign language prgrams. 40 Direct cmmunicatin, even if imperfect, brings up deeper cnnectins than relying n technlgy.
Yet, these tls aren’t perfect.
And they prefer the cnvenience f AI.
It is a paraphrase (意译) rather than a translatin.
Travel has lng been a mtivatr fr study.
Despite this, the scial significance f language remains.
This leads them t rely n gestures, patience, r technlgy.
ChatGPT stands ut by creating mre natural-sunding paraphrases .

When I was a child, my mm liked t prepare fd fr dinner every nw and then. And I remember ne night 41 when she made dinner after a lng, hard day at wrk.
That Mnday evening s lng ag, my mm 42 a plate f eggs, sausage, and extremely burnt tast (吐司) in frnt f my dad. I remember waiting t see if dad nticed! Yet all my dad did was 43 his tast, smile at my mm, and ask me 44 my day was at schl. I dn’t remember what I tld him that night, but I d remember watching him
45 butter and jelly (果酱) n that tast and eat every bite!
When I gt up frm the 46 that evening, I remember hearing my mm 47 t my dad fr burning the tast. And I’ll never frget what he said: “Baby, I lve 48 tast.”
Later that night, I went t kiss daddy gdnight and I asked him if he 49 liked his burnt tast. He 50 me in his arms and said, “Sn, yur mum put in a hard day at wrk tday and she’s very 51. Besides, a little burnt tast never 52 anyne!”
Actually, life is full f imperfect things and imperfect peple. We can’t be 53 at everything we d.

Emily was a shy girl wh ften preferred the cmfrt f her wn cmpany. She fund it challenging t express herself and lacked cnfidence in her abilities. Luckily, her best friend Ada always believed in her and encuraged her t step ut f her cmfrt zne.
One day in art class, Mrs. Andersn annunced an upcming citywide art cmpetitin. The rm buzzed with excitement. Her heart skipped a beat at the thught f jining, but self-dubt crept ( 渐渐侵入) in, whispering that her wrk wuldn’t measure up t the talent surrunding her.
Ada, nticing her fear, whispered, “Emily, yu shuld ttally enter! Yur art is fantastic, and this culd be a great pprtunity fr yu t shwcase yur talent.” Emily clsed her eyes, a gentle breeze wafting thrugh the pen windws, carrying the distant sunds f laughter and chatter.
