Still, n ne raised a hand, but this time he lked very carefully at each persn in the silent audience. Gesturing t ne f them, he said, “D yu have smething t add?” T my amazement, she respnded “Yes, thank yu.” and asked me a very interesting questin. My clleague repeated this several times, lking directly at the audience and asking fr mre questins r cmments.
After the sessin, I asked my clleague, “Hw d yu knw that thse peple had questins?” He hesitated, nt sure hw t explain it, and then said, “it has t d with hw bright their eyes are.”
He cntinued, “In Japan, we dn’t make as much direct eye cntact as yu d in the West. S when yu asked if there were any cmments, mst peple were nt lking directly at yu. But a few peple in the grup were lking right at yu, and their eyes were bright. That indicates that they wuld be happy t have yu call n them.”

Imagine standing in frnt f a restaurant menu with cuntless ptins, each sunding appealing. Yu spend 20 minutes thinking, nly t feel anxius that the dish yu finally chse might nt be the best ne available. This is “FOBO” — the fear f a better ptin.
“FOBO is the anxiety that smething better will cme alng, which makes it difficult t cmmit t existing chices when making a decisin,” said venture capitalist Patrick McGinnis, wh came up with the term, “Especially if there are several ptins available, yu wrry that a better r even perfect chice might be ut there, yet yu struggle t chse just ne.” While it’s imprtant t weigh prs and cns and think thrugh majr decisins, FOBO keeps us caught in a lp (循环), frever chasing the unclear “what if”.
The cncept f FOBO is based n a mistaken belief that “the lnger we lk, the mre ptins we will have, and this will smehw lead t a better utcme.” Hwever, there’s n guarantee f this. Instead, peple may wait s lng that they end up lsing gd ptins and regret nt making a chice sner. Cnstantly secnd-guessing neself and living in uncertainty can cause stress and exhaustin. Psychlgist Patricia Dixn explains, “Mentally, FOBO can cntribute t anxiety and depressin, as the cnstant search fr better ptins prevents individuals frm fully enjying their present circumstances. This mindset leads t dissatisfactin, weakens self-trust, and ultimately hinders persnal grwth and cnnectin.”
T vercme FOBO, the key is t streamline decisin-making prcesses. Start by setting clear pririties and narrwing dwn yur ptins t make chices easier. Limit the time spent n decisins t avid verthinking, break dwn cmplex decisins int smaller, manageable parts, and gather nly essential infrmatin. Trust yur instincts (直觉) and embrace the idea f fcusing n finding a “gd enugh” ptin rather than bsessing ver perfectin. Remind yurself that even if a better ptin appears later, yu’ve already made prgress.
28.Why d peple experience FOBO?
A.They want t make decisins quickly.
B.They have few chices t select frm.
C.They fear missing ut n a better ptin.
D.They tend t take accunt f thers’ views.
29.What is a ptential impact f FOBO n individuals?
A.It blcks their way t embracing different ideas.
B.It weakens their ability t analyze cmplex issues.
C.It prevents them frm achieving a perfect utcme.
D.It makes them dissatisfied with their current situatin.
30.What des the underlined wrd “streamline” in the last paragraph prbably mean?
A.Extend.B.Abandn.C.Evaluate.D.Simplify.
31.Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the text?

Unlike traditinal rigid rbts, sft rbtics are built frm flexible materials that cpy the natural mvements f living creatures. This design enables them t mve thrugh narrw spaces like disaster debris r cmplex paths inside the human bdy. Hwever, adding sensrs has been difficult. “The key was making them smart,” explains researcher Larry Cheng frm Penn State University, “We needed rbts that sense and act independently.”
The slutin lies in electrnic parts designed t bend. Traditinal hard electrnics limit rbt mvement, but Cheng’s team used bendable electrnics spread acrss the bdy. They added magnetic materials inside. By adjusting magnetic fields, rbts crawl, rll and twist wirelessly and battery-free.
Develping this technlgy faced tw main bstacles. First, even bendable electrnics are much stiffer than the rbt’s sft material. “We arranged electrnics like puzzle pieces t fit flexibly,” Cheng explained. Secnd, magnetic fields used fr cntrl can disturb electrnic signals. The team redesigned circuits (电路) t prevent this interference, keeping sensrs accurate near strng magnets.
These imprvements allw rbts t wrk with less human guidance. In rescue missins, they culd find trapped peple by detecting bdy heat. Medical versins might sense chemical changes t deliver drugs exactly where needed. Researchers are develping a pill-sized rbt that patients culd swallw. “It culd examine the digestive system, cllect samples, r treat diseases withut surgery,” said Krean scientist Suk-Wn Hwang, Cheng’s partner.
Future plans include creating tiny rbts fr bld vessel treatments. “Injected int veins, they culd repair heart prblems r target cancer cells,” Cheng described. Thugh unnamed yet, these rbts might get public-suggested names. “That’s a fun idea,” Cheng laughed when asked abut naming pssibilities.
32.What is a majr advantage f sft rbtics?
A.Rigid electrnic cntrl.B.Stiffer structural cmpnents
C.Strng built-in pwer supplies.D.Flexible mvements in narrw spaces
33.What prblems did researchers face in develping the sft rbts?
A.High cst and material scarcity.
B.Sensr accuracy and medical risks.
C.Stiff electrnics and signal interference.
D.Limited mvement and pwer shrtage.
34.What can be inferred abut future medical treatments in paragraph 4?
A.Dctrs will be replaced by rbts.
B.Rbts can nly assist in diagnses.
C.Treatment csts will significantly decrease.
D.Certain surgeries may becme unnecessary.
35.Hw did Cheng feel abut letting the public name the rbts?
A.Deeply mved.B.Lightly amused.
C.Slightly dubtful.D.Cmpletely uninterested.

【Text 10】
M: Welcme t Inhtim. Nw I’ll give an intrductin t it, first. Frm a distance, Inhtim lks like typical Brazilian cuntryside, but as yu get clser, yu ntice smething a bit unusual. There are turists walking thrugh the fields and gardens! This beautiful place started as a farm and fr many years nly farmers lived here. But that all changed in the 1990s when billinaire Bernard Paz decided t use the space fr smething very different. He created a “Disneyland” fr art lvers! Tday, peple travel frm arund the wrld and lk at the art. The spaces f Inhtim include mre than 500 sculptures by Brazilian and internatinal artists. As well as being imprtant culturally, it is really imprtant fr the lcal area because Inhtim creates a lt f jbs—1,000 peple wrk here in the museum, gardens and restaurants. Althugh it is quite far frm the usual turist spts f Brazil, it is nw a very successful and ppular utdr museum.
