“Generative AI has transfrmed educatin dramatically,” says senir study authr Chin-Hsi Lin, an educatin technlgy researcher at the University f Hng Kng. Lin and his clleagues recruited pstgraduate students frm 14 regins wh were studying in the U.K. and used AI in their wrk. The students were asked t cme up with and explain a metaphr (隐喻) fr the way generative AI impacted their academic writing.
By analyzing the respnses, the researchers fund fur categries fr hw students were using and thinking abut AI in their wrk. The mst basic f these was the use f AI t check English grammar r frmat a reference list. Participants cmpared AI t aesthetic (美学的) enhancements such as makeup r high heels, r a mechanical tl such as a packaging machine r measuring tape.
In the next categry, AI was mre invlved in the writing prcess itself. Sme students used it t rganize the lgic f their writing; sme equated it t Tesla’s Autpilt because it helped them stay n track.
In the third categry, students used AI t mre meaningfully transfrm their writing prcess and final prduct. Here, they called the technlgy a “bridge” r a “teacher” that culd help them vercme crss-cultural bundaries in cmmunicatin styles — especially imprtant because academic writing is s ften dne in English.
In the furth categry, students’ metaphrs highlighted the ptential danger f AI. Sme f the participants expressed discmfrt with the way it enabled a lack f innvatin r a lack f deeper understanding (like fast fd, cnvenient but nt nutritius). In this categry, students mst cmmnly cnsidered it handy.
“Metaphrs really matter, and they have shaped the public discurse (论述) fr all kinds f new technlgies,” says Emily Weinstein, a technlgy researcher. “The cmparisns we use t talk abut new technlgy can reveal ur assumptins abut hw they wrk — and even ur blind spts. There’s never nly ne right metaphr t talk abut a new technlgy. When we try t assign just ne metaphr t a new technlgy, we risk flattening it and verlking bth its benefits and dangers.”
32.What is the primary fcus f the study cnducted by Lin and his clleagues?
A.The mral cncerns abut AI in educatin.
B.The rle f AI in pstgraduates’ academic writing.
C.The effectiveness f AI in writing academic papers.
D.The impact f AI n students’ creativity in research.
33.Which aspect f AI des the third categry f metaphrs emphasize?
A.Its impact n narrwing cultural gaps.
B.Its methd fr enfrcing language rules.
C.Its effect n simplifying technical language.
D.Its functin f reducing academic wrklads.
34.What cncern is raised in the furth categry f metaphrs?
      A.AI’s highly addictive feature.
      B.AI’s high csts and inaccessibility.
C.AI’s lack f creativity and inspiratin.
      D.AI’s ineffectiveness in academic writing.
35.What is Weinstein’s attitude twards using a single metaphr fr Al?
      A.Psitive.B.Indifferent.
      C.Unclear.D.Negative.

Chsing new technlgy fr schls can be exciting, but pr planning ften leads t wasted time and mney. 36 Here are three that matter mst.
      Timeline fr implementatin (实施)
We ften plan tech adptin n a schl-year cycle, starting in August r September. But that timing can backfire. Instead, the best time t begin test cases is during the spring f the year befre full implementatin. 37 Schls shuld seek cmpanies that supprt multi-year plans with fair prices, starting early t lwer the risk.
      Prfessinal Learning
New cntracts ften include initial training. But what happens in later years with new teachers, deeper implementatin, r refresher needs? 38 If tw prducts ffer similar features, knwing which ne includes lng-term prfessinal learning — and which ne charges extra — can make r break a decisin.
      Wrking with ld systems
New tls dn’t wrk alne. Schls already have systems in place, like learning management platfrms and student databases. 39 Educatrs and students benefit when systems are cnnected and simple t use. 40
By carefully cnsidering implementatin timing, nging training needs, and system integratin, schls can turn technlgy investments frm ptential wastes int lasting educatinal resurces. Thughtful planning in these three areas ensures new tls truly imprve teaching and learning.
A.New tls must wrk well with thse already in use.
B.Nt every new tl needs t interact with existing nes.
C.Hwever, pr system integratin can waste teachers’ time.
D.But prblems can arise if certain questins aren’t cnsidered.
E.Trying ut tls during spring makes full use easier in the fall.
F.Sme cmpanies are generus at first but later becme hard t reach.
G.T avid failure, schls shuld ask key questins befre making a purchase.

Since the start f the industrial revlutin, there have been threats that new machines — frm mechanised lms t micrchips — wuld usurp (侵占) human jbs. Fr the mst part, the humans have prevailed (获胜,盛行). Nw, say sme experts, with AI ubiquity n the hrizn, the 41 is being realised: the rbts really are cming fr sme jbs.
A March 2023 reprt frm Gldman Sachs estimated that AI capable f cntent generatin culd d a quarter f all the wrk 42 dne by humans. Acrss the Eurpean Unin and US, the reprt further ntes, 300 millin jbs culd be lst t 43 . And that culd be dire, says Martin Frd, authr f Rule f the Rbts: Hw Artificial Intelligence Will Transfrm Everything. “It's nt just that this wuld happen t 44 , but it culd be pretty systemic,” he says. “It culd happen t a lt f peple, ptentially quite suddenly, ptentially all at the same time. And that has 45 nt just fr thse individuals, but fr the whle ecnmy.”
Thankfully, it’s nt all bad news. The experts 46 their warnings with a caveat: there are still things AI isn’t capable f — tasks that invlve 47 human qualities, like emtinal intelligence and utside-the-bx thinking. And mving int rles that center thse skills culd help 48 the chances f being replaced. “I think there are generally three 49 that are ging t be relatively insulated (绝缘的,隔热的) in the freseeable future,” says Frd. “The first wuld be jbs that are genuinely 50 : yu’re nt ding frmulaic wrk r just rearranging things, but yu're genuinely cming up with new ideas and building smething new.”
The secnd safe zne, he cntinues, is jbs that require 51 interpersnal relatinships. He pints t nurses, business cnsultants and investigative jurnalists. These are jbs, he says, “where yu need a very deep 52 f peple. I think it’ll be a lng time befre AI has the ability t interact in the kinds f ways that really build relatinships”. The third safe zne, says Frd, “are jbs that really require lts f mbility and dexterity and prblem-slving ability in 53 envirnments”. Many trade jbs – think electricians, plumbers, welders and the like – fall under this umbrella. “These are the kinds f jbs where yu're dealing with a new situatin all the time,” he adds. “They are prbably the hardest f anything t autmate. In rder t autmate jbs like this, yu wuld need a science fictin rbt. Yu’d need Star Wars’s C-3PO.”
While humans will likely remain in jbs that fall within thse categries, that desn’t mean thse prfessins are ttally insulated frm the ascent f AI. In fact, says Janne Sng McLaughlin, assciate prfessr f labr ecnmics at the University f Buffal, US, mst jbs, regardless f 54 , have aspects that are likely t be autmated by the 55 . In shrt, seeking rles in dynamic, shifting envirnments that include unpredictable tasks is gd way t stave ff (挡开,避开 ) jb lss t AI. At least, fr a while.
