Each year, an estimated 53,000 turists visit Antarctica, and they culd each be unintentinally cntributing t the melting f 83 tnnes f snw, accrding t a new study published in Nature Cmmunicatins.
The culprit is black carbn, created when fssil (化石) fuels and bimass are burnt. Black carbn settles n the snw, causing it t darken in clur. This increases the absrptin f heat frm the sun and quickens melting.
Due t its remteness, Antarctica has a lw backgrund level f black-carbn pllutin cmpared t ther parts f the wrld. Hwever, the new study indicates that black carbn frm Antarctic turism and research activities has nevertheless had a ntable effect n the icy landscape.
The internatinal research team measured black carbn cncentratins in snw cllected frm 28 sites alng a 2,000-kilmetre stretch f the nrthern Antarctic Peninsula. The researchers fund that black carbn levels were higher near research facilities and landing sites fr turist ships than at mre remte regins f the peninsula.
The study estimates that, in heavily impacted areas, black carbn pllutin is causing snwpack t decrease by up t 23 millimetres each year. Altgether, an estimated 4.4 megatnnes per year f snw is melting mre quickly in the summer due t the impacts f black carbn frm turism alne — translating t 83 tnnes per visitr. Althugh these figures are striking, the real impact culd be mre cmplex than the data suggest.
“It is likely that lcal emissins (排放) accunt fr mst f the black carbn cntent in samples cllected arund research facilities and ppular shre turist-landing sites,” the paper states.
Ships, aer planes, helicpters, generatrs and trucks are knwn surces f black carbn that can settle n snw. The study authrs suggest that turist cruises (巡航) and fuel-pwered equipment at scientific research statins are likely the largest surces f black-carbn pllutin in the study area. That’s despite effrts in recent years t reduce the envirnmental ftprint f Antarctic turism, such as switching t marine diesel (船用柴油) r deep cycle battery pwer.
“Our results shw that mre remains t be dne t reduce the impacts f turism and ships in Antarctica,” the authrs write.

      C. They suggest that Antarctica turism shuld be banned.
      D. The data may verstate the snwpack melting prblem.
      31. What d the authrs think f current envirnmental effrts in Antarctica?
      A. They still shw limited effect.B. They paint a rsy picture.
      C. They are a drp in the bucket.D. They bst Antarctica turism.
      D

The pandemic gt peple wrrying abut their health and increased demand.
High-prtein prducts are helping firms expand. Revenues at Danne increased by 4.3% in 2024, driven by high-prtein yghurts and drinks. The questin is whether the trend has gne t far. The Wrld Health Organisatin recmmends 0.83 grams a day per kilgram f bdy weight. By that measure, the average American r Britn cnsumes t much.
Fr fd firms already, struggling t meet multiple requirements, it is yet anther challenge. Cnsumers d nt nly want mre prtein and less ultra-prcessing, but als mre plant-based fd and anything gd fr the gut (肠道). The Curatrs, a British snackmaker, has a balancing act t perfrm. When the firm began making sya and lentil chips, it settled n ten grams f prtein per bag. Recipes with mre were nt as tasty. And as fd crazes cme and g, a pleasant flavur may be the mst enduring requirement f all.
      32. What can we learn abut high-prtein diets?

      C. Balancing the dietary preferences and health cncerns f cnsumers.
      D. Cnvincing cnsumers that high-prtein diets are universally healthy.
      35. What can be a suitable title fr the text?

S I walked back, tugged n the handle and realized with hrrr that my keys were sitting in the passenger seat f my car.
I called AAA (American Autmbile Assciatin). As it turns ut, I dn’t have an AAA membership. I called my parents and they anxiusly tried t figure ut hw t add me t their card, while my phne battery was at 21% and drpping.
I called AAA again, and they infrmed me that they wuld be there in abut an hur and a half, which seemed like a lng time as I sat n tp f the trunk f my car. The sun was lwering in the sky and the parking lt was emptying ut. I heard thunder, and I saw peple exiting the beach at an increasing rate. Well, in the UK, hundreds f family names are n lnger used, but the six funny family names we’ll talk abut are still used. ⑰The first ne, “Gtbed”. The first recrded persn t have this family name was Jhn Gtbedde f Cambridge in 1269. It is said that this family name came frm peple wh had a bed, which was rare back in the 12th century. The secnd ne, ⑱⑳“Onins”. This family name, which was first ppular in France and Ireland befre cming ver t the UK, dates back t 1279. It was used t describe a persn’s jb. They were either a seller r a grwer f the vegetable. The third ne, “Nutter”. Nutter infrmally means a crazy persn, but it’s really a family name that riginates frm Yrkshire and Lancashire. ⑲The furth ne, “Smellie”. Althugh it sunds a lt like “smelly”, it has nthing t d with a bad smell. Only 400 peple in the UK still have this family name tday. The fifth ne, “Hardmeat”. Yu might have guessed that “Hardmeat” must have smething t d with a family that sells meat. Actually, it might just have been a misspelling f the village that the name came frm, which was “Hardmead” in England. Finally, ⑳“Greedy”. It’s nt meant t describe peple wh have an insatiable appetite. In fact, the name riginated in Ireland and was riginally spelt “Gready”.

故选A项。
通读全文,结合首段“T hnur ur histrian Shane MacThmáis, Experience Glasnevin is prud t cntinue engaging yung peple with histry thrugh ur annual primary schl essay cmpetitin.
根据第二段中“And adpting Eppie wuld make him feel much less guilty abut his past.(收养埃皮会让他对自己的过去少一些内疚感)”可知,Gdfrey想要认回Eppie是为了减轻他的内疚感。故选C。
根据第三段中“Silas, wh had been relieved by hearing Eppie’s answer t Gdfrey, nw answered bitterly, “Then, sir, why didn’t yu cnfess this sixteen years ag, befre I began t lve her? Why d yu cme t take her away nw, when it’s like taking the heart ut f my bdy? Gd gave her t me because yu abandned her! 26. 根据第五段“Silas was silent fr a mment. He was wrried that perhaps Gdfrey was right, and that it was selfish f him t keep Eppie. At last he brught ut the difficult wrds. “All right. 27. 根据最后一段““I’ll never be srry,” said Eppie firmly. “I dn’t want t be rich, if I can’t live with the peple I knw and lve.”(“我永远不会后悔,”埃皮坚定地说。
画线词的上文“Each year, an estimated 53,000 turists visit Antarctica, and they culd each be unintentinally cntributing t the melting f 83 tnnes f snw, accrding t a new study published in Nature Cmmunicatins. 根据《自然·通讯》发表的最新研究,每位游客可能无意中导致83吨积雪融化)”指出前往南极的游客会导致积雪融化,画线词的下文“Black carbn settles n the snw, causing it t darken in clur. This increases the absrptin f heat frm the sun and quickens melting. 故选A项。
根据第三段中“Hwever, the new study indicates that black carbn frm Antarctic turism and research activities has nevertheless had a ntable effect n the icy landscape.
根据第五段中“The study estimates that, in heavily impacted areas, black carbn pllutin is causing snwpack t decrease by up t 23 millimetres each year. Altgether, an estimated 4.4 megatnnes per year f snw is melting mre quickly in the summer due t the impacts f black carbn frm turism alne — translating t 83 tnnes per visitr.
根据倒数第二段中“That’s despite effrts in recent years t reduce the envirnmental ftprint f Antarctic turism, such as switching t marine diesel (船用柴油) r deep cycle battery pwer. 故选A项。
根据第二段中“On scial media, fd and fitness influencers recmmend prtein. Celebrities have made it trendy t lk strng, rather than skinny.
根据第三段“Gym enthusiasts have been wlfing dwn prtein fr decades. Mre recently the less strng have als realised that prtein can help them build muscle while feeling fuller fr lnger. Juergen Esser at Danne, a French dairy giant, says hunger fr prtein first tk ff amng yungsters wh want t lk muscular. It sn spread t lder peple eager t stay strng and healthy.
根据最后一段中“Cnsumers d nt nly want mre prtein and less/ultra-prcessing, but als mre plant-based fd and anything gd fr the gut (肠道).
通读全文,尤其是根据第二段中“On scial media, fd and fitness influencers recmmend prtein. Celebrities have made it trendy t lk strng, rather than skinny.

      36. C 空白处前提到feeling f never having enugh time ,Life ges by t quickly暗示了人们常常感到时间不够用,生活节奏快。
F项中Being utside顺承上文in the utdrs,而reset the mind与下文slw yur thughts and refcus them n what matters相呼应,符合语境。

      44. D 根据第五段中的“... the chief said that by giving his village ... water we had given them life itself.”
      46. B 根据空白处后的“Livestck drank frm it. Wmen washed clthes in it. On unbearably ... days, the children cled themselves ...”
      47. D 根据空白处后的“... the children cled themselves in it.”

1】It wuld als be helpful t prvide additinal resurces and supprt during this transitin, ensuring every student can benefit frm this new teaching methd.(运用了现在分词作状语)
2】While it may benefit fluent English speakers, sme students might struggle t cmprehend and keep pace with the lessns.(运用了while引导的让步状语从句)
