I grew up as an nly child, enjying free-range childhd adventures in nature. I wuld disappear int the frest, fascinated by the mysterius stries f animals arund me. When I was abut seven, I came acrss a little cat seriusly injured by a bard. The vet (兽医) examined her muth and said, “She’s nt ging t make it.” I culdn’t understand hw he knew that. That mment awakened my interest in understanding animals, and I decided t becme a vet. I eventually earned a degree and spent ver 25 years wrking as an envirnmental health scientist.
In 2017, cncerns abut antibitic resistance (抗生素抗药性) led the US gvernment t change laws, meaning beekeepers culd n lnger buy antibitics ver the cunter; they nw required a prescriptin (处方). This change inspired me t establish a veterinary practice specifically fr bees — a unique field in the US.
As a bee vet, I assist beekeepers facing varius issues in their hives (蜂箱). Eurpean fulbrd, a disease ften detectable by its special sweet smell, is especially harmful t babies. The queen survives, but ver weeks r mnths, the clny fails.
We’ve had terrible weather here. If bees are struggling t find fd, it can put them at risk. Last February was really warm, and wild bees were cming ut f hibernatin (冬眠) nly t find nthing fr them t eat. This mismatch in timing is ne f the leading risks t bth hneybees and wild bees.
Hneybees are prtected frm sme envirnmental pressures because we huse them, we feed them, and we care fr them. It is the wild bees that I’m extremely wrried abut — they depend n hw well the envirnment is supprting them.
My first apprach t learning this prfessin was bks, but bks can nly take me s far. I feel like every bee is s precius nw, especially early in the year. That is ften when the wild bee queens are ut and may be weak. Saving her can save a whle clny. S a lt is resting n that ne bee: If I can help her, I will.
      24. What inspired the authr t becme a vet?
      A. The experiences f raising pet cats.
      B. The jy f explring nature as a child.
      C. The need fr a vet specializing in bees.
      D. The wrds f a vet abut an injured cat.
      25. Why did the authr establish a veterinary practice fr bees?
      A. The gvernment banned antibitics fr bees.
      B. Beekeepers needed prescriptins fr antibitics.
      C. Bee diseases had becme mre difficult t treat.
      D. Beekeeping had becme mre ppular in the US.
      26. Accrding t the authr, what is prbably the deadliest threat t wild bees?
      A. The veruse f antibitics.
      B. The increased hney demands.
      C. The abnrmal weather patterns.
      D. The cmpetitin frm farmed bees.
      27. What is the best title fr the text?
      A. A Vet’s Jurney t Saving Bees
      B. A New Challenge fr Beekeepers
      C. The Hidden Dangers f Antibitics
      D. The Cncerning Lss f Bee Ppulatin

Gen Z — wh drink less cffee than their elders, spend mre time nline and care abut wellness — are seeking it ut. The irny (有讽刺意味的情况) is that much f matcha’s grwth in the West is driven by flavured matcha lattes, which are filled with sugar. The future may nt be all that sweet, hwever. Tea prductin in Japan is decreasing, as the area f land is being used fr farming; farmers are retiring and are put ff by rising prices fr fertiliser (肥料) and ther essentials. Lvers f the trendy iced drink may sn feel a chill when it cmes t their bill.

      C. Health-seeking Gen Z chse sugary matcha lattes.
      D. It’s exprted frm Asia but surprisingly cheap in the West.
      31. What may be the future prblem fr matcha lvers?
      A. Matcha’s pr quality.B. Matcha’s rising prices.
      C. Matcha’s fewer varieties.D. Matcha’s tasteless flavr.
      D
“Generative AI has transfrmed educatin dramatically,” says senir study authr Chin-Hsi Lin, an educatin technlgy researcher at the University f Hng Kng. The students were asked t cme up with and explain a metaphr (隐喻) fr the way generative AI impacted their academic writing.
By analyzing the respnses, the researchers fund fur categries fr hw students were using and thinking abut AI in their wrk. The mst basic f these was the use f AI t check English grammar r frmat a reference list. Participants cmpared AI t aesthetic (美学的) enhancements such as makeup r high heels, r a mechanical tl such as a packaging machine r measuring tape.

In the furth categry, students’ metaphrs highlighted the ptential danger f AI. Sme f the participants expressed discmfrt with the way it enabled a lack f innvatin r a lack f deeper understanding (like fast fd, cnvenient but nt nutritius). In this categry, students mst cmmnly cnsidered it handy.
“Metaphrs really matter, and they have shaped the public discurse (论述) fr all kinds f new technlgies,” says Emily Weinstein, a technlgy researcher. “The cmparisns we use t talk abut new technlgy can reveal ur assumptins abut hw they wrk — and even ur blind spts. There’s never nly ne right metaphr t talk abut a new technlgy. When we try t assign just ne metaphr t a new technlgy, we risk flattening it and verlking bth its benefits and dangers.”
      32. What is the primary fcus f the study cnducted by Lin and his clleagues?
      A. The mral cncerns abut AI in educatin.
      B. The rle f AI in pstgraduates’ academic writing.
      C. The effectiveness f AI in writing academic papers.
      D. The impact f AI n students’ creativity in research.

      A. Its impact n narrwing cultural gaps.
      B. Its methd fr enfrcing language rules.
      C. Its effect n simplifying technical language.
      D. Its functin f reducing academic wrklads.

      B. AI’s high csts and inaccessibility.
      C. AI’s lack f creativity and inspiratin.
      D. AI’s ineffectiveness in academic writing.
      35. What is Weinstein’s attitude twards using a single metaphr fr Al?
      A Psitive.B. Indifferent.
      C. Unclear.D. Negative.
