A surfer wh lst his right leg t a shark attack mnths ag has amazed peple by returning t the waves n his ne remaining leg. In a shw f remarkable curage, the surfer Kai McKenzie paddled ut t the same spt where he had been attacked by a white shark fur mnths earlier, which was quite a rare case.
After the initial shck, McKenzie kept his spirits uplifted by his missin t return t the water befre the end f the year. The 23-year-ld had prmised t get back int surfing as sn as he was able t. McKenzie tk ff his artificial limb (肢) and gt back t riding the waves and practicing new mves. He paddled ut with fcus, catching several waves, jumping n his bard with ne leg and ccasinally steering (控制) it with ne hand when it was ff curse. It’s far frm effrtless t surf with ne leg which causes imbalance, and when he wiped ut, he'd nly gt ne leg t swing back up.
Supprted by family, McKenzie appeared at ease in the same water despite admitting he was a bit nervus because the water lked “exactly like that day”. His bravery and skill while surfing n ne ft tuched everyne. He later psted his return t the cean nline. “It’s ne f the craziest feelings I’ve had! It’s the first time that I’d paddled back in the water where I gt bitten,” he wrte. “I sat ut there by myself and tk it in fr a little bit then a bunch f gd peple surfed with me.”
Mark, a surfing champin wh lst his right leg due t cancer, mentined McKenzie’s return t the cean, saying, “That fear f the shark wuld have been behind him as he was paddling ut. Getting back ut there is extremely curageus. McKenzie might nt at the tp yet, but he’s yung and he’ll adapt fast. He has taken his first and biggest step by getting ut there.”
      24. Why are peple amazed by McKenzie?

Mike said the £10 that he paid fr an anti-snring (防止打鼾的) pillw last summer wuld have been better spent n bread. Still, it seemed like an pprtunity t gd t miss at that time, a tiny price t pay t give his wife gd nights and t save him frm sleep divrce.
Hwever, the silent night it prmised never materialized and he’s nw frequently banished t the living rm. The pillw meanwhile is in a landfill smewhere, alng with cuntless thers he imagines, purchased by peple wh were sld a dream.
James Smith, a sleep expert, sympathizes. He warns peple t be careful f the claims sme pillw dealers make. Pillws claiming t be anti-snring dn’t stp snring in itself. They are designed t repsitin the head and neck t pen the airways, but it is wrth nting that 67% f snrers will stp r reduce snring simply by lying n their side, s it may be mre advantageus t find “gd pillws” that culd ptimize (优化) sleep in a side sleeping psitin, James Smith suggested.
Thse “gd pillws” shuld be cmfrtable and shuld preserve a gd sleep psitin. If they can keep a persn n his side, they will prbably help reduce snring. Different sizes and types f pillws are better fr different sleepers. A side sleeper shuld chse a pillw that fills the gap and keeps their head in psitin. Hwever, fr back sleepers, a pillw shuld fill the space between the shulders and the back f the head. This will always mean a thinner pillw than that f a side sleeper, as it is a smaller gap t fill.
Given hw individual a chice f pillws is, the mst sensible strategy is t try befre yu cmmit t buying. And this shuldn’t be a quick squeeze (捏) in the bed shp. Try it fr as lng as pssible. Many pillws nw cme with a trial perid. Is it still cmfrtable after 5, 10 r even 15 minutes?
      28. Hw did Mike feel after buying an anti-snring pillw?
      A. Regretful.B. Secure.C. Cnfused.D. Wrried.
      29. What des the underlined wrd “banished” in paragraph 2 mean?
      A. Taken in.B. Relied n.C. Called n.D. Driven ut.
      30. Hw d “gd pillws” suggested by James Smith help snrers?
      A. By keeping side sleepers frm lying n their side.
      B. By supprting the bdy crrectly fr side sleepers.
      C. By using cmfrtable materials as a sleeping aid.
      D. By using thinner sizes t imprve quality f sleep.
      31. What is the key advice given fr chsing a pillw?
      A. Feel it briefly in the stre.B. Chse ne with gd flexibility.
      C. Test it extensively befre buying.D. Check its cmfrt after a trial perid.
      D
Researchers have fund that the glbal gal f limiting warming t 1.5℃ abve preindustrial levels is nw almst certainly impssible. There is a 50% chance, the researchers reprted, that glbal warming will exceed (超过) 2℃ even if humanity meets current gals f rapid decarbnizatin (脱碳) t net zer by the 2050s. Previus studies have cncluded that decarbnizatin at the pace wuld likely keep glbal warming belw 2℃.
Fr the new study, climate scientist Nah Diffenbaugh and his team trained an AI system t predict hw high glbal temperatures culd climb, depending n the pace f decarbnizatin. When training the AI, they used temperature and greenhuse gas data frm lts f climate mdel simulatins (模拟). T predict future warming, hwever, they fed AI the actual histrical temperatures, alng with different pssible futures fr greenhuse gas emissins.
Their study fund that many regins will exceed 3℃ f warming by 2060 in a situatin in which emissins cntinue t increase — sner than predicted in earlier studies, and that the wrld has almst certainly missed its chance t achieve the ambitius gal f keeping lng-term warming belw 2℃.
The study builds n 2023 research in which researchers predicted hw many years are left befre the 1.5 and 2℃ gals are exceeded. Hwever, as these threshlds (阈) are based n average cnditins ver many years, they dn’t tell the full stry f hw extreme the climate culd becme.
The new predictins underline the imprtance f investing mre than in decarbnizatin. We’ve been seeing accelerating trend f extreme weather impacts glbally in recent years. This study als suggests that, even in the best-case situatin, we are very likely t experience cnditins that are mre severe than what we’ve been dealing with recently.
“Even if all the effrt and investment in decarbnizatin is as successful as pssible, there is a real risk, withut equal investments in making human and natural systems mre resilient t severe cnsequences f cntinued warming,” said Diffenbaugh.
      32. What is the main cnclusin f the study?
      A. Keeping warming belw 1.5℃ is nw ut f reach.
      B. Limiting warming t 2℃ is still pssible.
      C. Decarbnizatin will limit warming.
      D. Warming has already exceeded 2℃.
      33. Hw des AI wrk in predicting glbal warming?
      A. By fcusing n decarbnizatin gals.
      B. By analyzing extreme weather events.
      C. By cmbining mdels with real-wrld data.
      D. By learning frm histrical temperature data.
      34. What des Diffenbaugh suggest is needed besides decarbnizatin?
      A. New technlgies.B. Mre investment in adaptatin.
      C. Slwer decarbnizatin.D. Fcus merely n emissins.
      35. What can be the best title fr the text?
      A The Future f Decarbnizatin
      B. The Rle f AI in Climate Predictin
      C. The Impact f Greenhuse Gas Emissins
      D. The Challenge f Achieving Climate Gals

I started checking the settings, detecting there was a heavy filter (滤光器) turned n, which was distrting (扭曲) his face in every picture. “Sir, it’s actually a filter that’s causing the issue. Yur phne isn’t brken; it’s just the settings. Resetting the settings f the camera will help.”
“But it’s digital! I didn’t mess with anything! My phts were fine when I tk them,”he argued. “I need these pictures t be perfect! Please, just fix it,” his vice had sftened, almst like he was begging nw.
Then, almst in a whisper, he admitted, “I need these phts fr a dating website.”Suddenly, it all made sense. This was nt just any pht but was his sht at finding lve. The thught f it ging wrng had made him cmpletely uneasy.
