My birth was a little mre dramatic than the standard way a baby enters the wrld. I was brn missing my left hand. Indeed, my limb (手臂) difference culd have been a disaster if it hadn't been fr what happened next. A nurse placed me in my mther's arms and instructed. “Yu will take her hme. I tld myself that I'd just hide it that ne day, and I was still trying t make friends. But ne day f hiding turned int a week, a mnth, and years—25 t be exact.
When I was 38 years ld, tired f hiding and lnely, I met smene special and invited him in. It was a transfrmatinal experience, and I learned t lve me t. It changed hw I lived my entire life and made me happier. I als discvered and jined the Lucky Fin Prject, an rganizatin devted t peple with all types f disabilities.
Hiding things, especially frm lved nes, is tiring and lnely, and it prevents us frm getting help and supprt. It's time t change that.

Since the mid-1990s, turists have paid strm-chasers t take them t places in the American Great Plains where they expect t see trnades. Why, a reasnable fllw-up questin might g, wuld anyne want t get s clse t smething s disruptive? These turists, a study fund, characterized their relatinship t severe weather as a “passin”, describing their feelings abut trnades using wrds like “enjyment” “fascinatin” and “lve”. Sme peple seem spiritually mved by trnades—ne turist called the strms “humbling”-but the main mtivatr seemed t be simple: Twisters are cl.
America has many mre, trnades than any ther cuntry, and its peple have lng regarded twisters with a mix f fear, awe and thrilled pleasure. Fast-mving-and dramatic, trnades have been irresistible parts fr ppular entertainment. One needn't be an extreme-weather enthusiast, hwever, t take a brief and far-less dangerus tur: f culture trnades have inspired and f the transfrmatin f American sciety's feelings abut these strms frm fear t excitement.
Eurpean clnists in the future United States were fascinated—and smetimes hrrified—by their new land's weather. In the Early Republic, the influence f rmantic ideas abut the terrible and wnderful pwer f nature became clearer in American trnad culture. Sme peple began t write abut trnades in terms f awe, and t prduce art that explred the phenmenn's natural beauty, while als mralizing abut its meaning. Since the 1930s, American trnades have been less deadly: the cuntry has much better early-warning systems, fewer peple live in rural areas and trnad activity has largely shifted frm the sutheast t the thinly-ppulated Great Plains.
Strm-chasing—a scientific, thrill-seeking activity that mst Americans fund ut abut via the 1996 blckbuster film Twister, is still incmprehensible t many wh dn't practice it. “I find it difficult t explain t smene wh hasn't chased what frces us t seek pleasure frm risk,” wrte Jennifer Hendersn, a schlar and crazy strm-chaser, characterizing her feelings while chasing as “a sense f expsure and revelatin tightly cupled”.

The recent spread f “fake news” may make it seem like misinfrmatin is a relatively mdern inventin. But falsehds (假话) and wild claims have been part f human culture fr abut as lng as it's existed. This is because misinfrmatin riginates with, and is spread by, fellw humans.

And yet, yu can still be less persuasive than smene whse entire argument is: “A guy I met dwn the pub tld me smething different.”
In a perfectly sensible, lgical wrld, smene wh is lsely cnnected with a certain field r industry wuldn't have the same influence as actual data, r the leading experts in the field. But humans aren't perfectly sensible, lgical creatures and neither is the wrld we live in.
The ability t think ratinally (理性地) and analytically is a relatively recent additin t ur mental abilities (in the evlutinary sense) . And it csts ur brains a lt f energy and effrt, The mre established, fundamental systems in ur brain, which shape memry and learning, are heavily reliant n emtin. The mre emtinally stimulating smething is, the easier it is t remember. That's why we can spend mnths revising the material fr a crucial schl exam, but struggle t remember any f it nce we've passed. Meanwhile, the embarrassing tine we slipped and landed n ur backside in the schl canteen. that memry will last until ur dying day.
The mst determined sceptics (无神论者) will ften say, “Facts dn't care abut yur feelings,” which is crrect. But feelings dn't necessarily care abut facts either. And ultimately, feelings have mre f a say in what we think and d. And that's why yur mate dwn the pub can seem mre believable than a pile f published research.
    32. What cntributes t the spread f “fake news”?
    A. Peple factr. B. Human culture.
    C. Mdern inventin. D. Infrmatin accuracy.
    33. Why did the general audiences think actual data less persuasive?

    34. Hw des the authr illustrate his idea in paragraph 4?
    A. By listing figures. B. By giving examples.
    C. By explaining a cncept. D. By citing experts' wrds.
    35. What is the authr's purpse f writing the passage?

    Dear Chairman,
I am writing t express my supprt fr designating the Duble Ninth Festival as a natinal hliday in the Mdel CPPCC.
As a high schl student, I believe this prpsal carries substantial cultural and scial significance. The Duble Ninth Festival, rted in Chinese traditin, symblizes respect fr the elderly and the beauty f autumn, By making it a natinal hliday, we can preserve ur cultural heritage and instill a sense f pride in yunger generatins. Mrever, recgnizing the Duble Ninth Festival as a natinal hliday reinfrces family values and devtin twards parents. It prvides an ccasin fr families t reunite, fstering strnger bnds and scial harmny.
In cnclusin, I endrse this prpsal as it celebrates ur cultural identity and prmtes values vital t ur sciety. Thank yu fr cnsidering my viewpint.
    Sincerely,
    Li Hua

Just at that mment, Luella's family returned t their hme. Empathy surged within me as I saw their shck and disbelief. Appraching Luella. I tightly held her hands and said, “I'm s srry fr yur lss, but thankfully yu're all right.” She weakly ndded, still puzzled by the devastating scene. My family vlunteered t help clean up the mess, cutting dwn the branches and remving the fallen trees. T uplift Luella's spirits and bring he her cmfrt, I tried my best t cheer her up while tidying the garden with her, during which my wn jyful persnality seemed t revive a bit.
Even after the debris was cleared, I culd still sense Luella's upset fr her lst garden. My heart went ut i her, knwing her devtin t thse tulips she had nurtured. Determined t restre the beauty that nce thrived. I suggested that we rebuild the garden, which Luella delightedly embraced. With each bulb carefully planted and watered, the new tulip seedlings nce again filled the garden, which symblized the spruting f a new friendship between us, as well as the turning that I finally gt embraced by this new envirnment, My mm was right: it's mre blessed t give than t receive because when yu give, yu may receive smething unexpected in return.
