ng natural frms with cultural traditins. His UNESCO-listed masterpieces remain timeless symbls f creati
vity.
As a sickly child ften stuck in bed, Gaudí spent hurs studying the patterns f leaves utside his wind
w and the skeletal(骨骼的) structures f small animals. His father's cpper wrkshp became his first classr
m—— watching mlten(熔化的) metal flw int rgani shapes awakened his understanding f frm and fun
ctin. At Barcelna's Schl fArchitccture, yung Gaudí std ut fr his uncnventinal thinking. While hi
s classmates cpied classical designs, he sketched tree branches and animal bnes, declaring“Originality mean
s returning t the rigin—— nature”.
Gaudí's greatest wrk, the Sagrada Família church, began in 1882 and he later léd its cnstructin fr 43
years until his death. Its central twer—— nw nearing cmpletin— will rise172.5 meters, its height carefull
y calculated t stay ne meter belw Barcelna’ s highest hill, reflecting Gaudí’ s belief that“Human creatins
shuld never vershadw nature’ s”. Within this stne ecsystem, light becmes part f the architecture as sun
light shines in thrugh its clrful glass windws, creating ever-changing patterns f light that fill the interir
with a magical gld clur. The cmplex sculptures and rganic shapes tell stries f faith and nature, making
it a cultural symbl f Barcelna.
While the Sagrada Família remains the greatest wrk, Gaudí’ s ther creatins shwcase his evlving g
enius in different perids. His buildings, which harmmzed functinality, art and faith, pinecred innvatin
s nw central t green architecture. Tday, these principles guide sustainable design practices, prving his ph
ilsphy far ahead f its time.
Thugh Gaudí died suddenly in 1926, his visin lives n. As the city prepares fr the hundredth anniver
sary f Gaudí's death, his wrds ring truer than ever:“The future belngs t thse wh see beauty in nature's l

The experience f tuch is key t babies beginning t recgnize themselves in a mirrr, new research sh
ws, which usually happens when babies are abut a year and a half ld.“Babies pulling n their tes(脚趾)
r hitting lightly their fingers are nt just playing,” saysJeffrey Lckman, senir authr f the research paper.
“They are tryıng t recgnize themselves ”
The researchers began by placing small vibrating(震动的) discs n the freheads f babies arund 14 m
nths ld, befre the usual age at which self-recgnitin ccars. In respnse t the vibratin, they wuld reach
up and tuch the discs. Next, researchers turned the children t face a mirrr and watched as they reached up
t tuch the discs. The researchers then had the children perfrm the standard mirrr-mark test fr self-recgn
itin in which a small mark f paint r makeup was placed n each child’ s face. If the child lked in the mirr
r and tuched the mark n their wn face r said wrds like their name r“me”, they demnstrated self-recg
nitin.
The researchers als bserved a cntrl grup f children expsed t the lab experience with mirrrs but
nt the vibrating discs. The children wh tuched their face mre frequently recgnized themselves in the mir
rr abut tw mnths earlier, n average, than thse wh typically first begin t recgnize themselves in a mir
rr. This indicates a pssible mechanism that self-awareness can develp based n engaged experiences that h
uman babies naturally generate.
The study challenges a lng-standing assumptin that self-recgnitin in early childhd is smehw har
dwired. Fr a lng time, scientists believed early recgnitin in the mirrr was a built-in functin f human br
ains and thse f ur clsest primate(灵长类) relatives, rather than linked t sensry r mtr experiences.
“Interventins fr babies wh have issues related t mtr skills are typically fcused n reaching fr b
jects in the external wrld and cntrlling them,” Lckman says. “Accrding t ur findings, reaching t the b
dy is equally imprtant and explring the bdy is the gateway t self-knwledge.”
28. Why d babies hit their fingers lightly at an early age?
A. T explre their surrundings. B. T build up self-identificatin.
C. T signal their self-recgnitin. D. T engage in playful activities.
29. Hw did the babies in the experiment frm self-recgnitin?
A. Thrugh active explratin. B. By seeing vibratin in mirrrs.
C. Thrugh wrd-related respnse. D. By cpying thers' mvements.
30. What is a cmmn mısunderstanding f early-childhd self-recgnitin?
A. It is an inbrn capability. B. It develps thrugh learning.
C. It is related t experiences. D. It exists in men and animals.
31. What d the findings suggest abut treating children's mtr delays?
A. Staring at themselves in the mirrr.
B. Intervening as early as pssible.
C. Enhancıng external mtr activities.
D. Having interactins with their wn bdies.

The cnvenience f mdern life is nthing shrt f astnishing. As I write this, my phne is wirelessly s
ending sme hits frm the 1700s t my prtable speaker. The fact that, as a culture, we celebrate such shrt cu
ts is understandable. That said, mst peple are able t sense that cnvenience has a darker side.
Befre getting int that, we'd better understand why cnvenience is s seductive. first. We ften desist d
ing the things we need t d t make prgress. Behind every well-intentined plan lies this hrrible sense f i
nertia(惰性). Why is this resistance—— and ur crrespnding appetite fr ease— such an essential part f
ur makeup?
Here, insights frm evlutinary psychlgy (particularly the idea f“the evlutinary mismatch”) can
help. The evlutinary mismatch is the idea that we clved fr a hunter-gather difstyle, and that while ur ci
rcumstances have changed cmpletely. ur brains and bdies haven't. Resistance was a necessary cunterbala
nce(制衡) t the bursts f intense activity that characterized the lives f hunter-gatherers: searching fr fd i
n driving rain, r running t escape a dangerus animal. It's the reasn we still ask:“D I really have t be di
ng this? Shuldn't I save my energy?” The peple chsing t remain sheltered during snwstrms, when the
prspect f btaining fd was lw, were mre likely t live and pass n their genes t the next generatin.
Since then, f curse, innvatin has changed things greatly. We' ve altered technlgy and ur envirn
ments partly t serve ur natural instinct(本能) t cnserve energy. The questin is: what d we stand t lse
by fllwing ur tendency t priritize cmfrt and cnvenience?
Cntinually chsing the cnvenient path lessens yur ability t deal with unavidable difficulties. And,
frm an evlutinary perspective, sme measure f discmfrt is as crucial t ur survival as rest and relaxati
n. Our ancestrs didn't survive purely by being lazy, but thrugh a cmbinatin f playing it safe and taking
necessary risks.
This difficulty itself des shape ur character. In the technlgical wrld we have fashined, we must s
metimes make cnscius effrts t act in ppsitin t ur instincts. As a culture, we must remember while c
nvenience feels gd in the mment, ur capacity t adapt and vercme challenges is part f ur evlutinar
y inheritance(遗传) t, and central t the adventure f life.
32. What des the underlined wrd“seductive” in paragraph 2 mst prbably mean?
A. Attractive and inviting. B. Useful and practical.
C. Harmful and dangerus. D. Annying and frustrating.
33. What des“the evlutinary mismatch” primarily refer t?
A. The incnsistency between persnal gals and scietal expectatins.
B. The cntrast between mdern cnvenience and ancient challenges.
C. The argument ver the hunter-gatherer lifestyle f ancient peple.
D. The cnflict between ur natural instinct and the current envirnment.—
34. What may priritizing cnvenience in mdern life result in?
A. It may lead t a lack f innvatin and prgress.
B. It may reduce ur ability t vercme challenges.
C. It may make us verly dependent n technlgy.
D. It may cause a decline in physical fitness.
35. Which f the fllwing can be the best title fr the passage?
A. The Benefits f Mdern Technlgy
B. Understanding Evlutin in Tday's Wrld
C. The Dark Side f Cnvenience in Mdern Life
D. Rejecting Mdern Cnvenience fr a Better Life
