      Lbb reached the uncnscius man first. He was middle-aged, well-dressed, and weighed abut 200 punds. The man was sinking fast, already three feet belw the surface. Lbb dve dwn,grabbed him, and kicked upward until they bth resurfaced. By then, Jafri had arrived. Tgether,they flated the man n his back, with Jafri supprting his shulders and Lbb hlding his hips and knees.       “D yu still have that bk n recycling? I’m sure there are many helpful tips that we culd use fr this prject. Shall we wrk n this tgether?” Max inquired expectantly.
      Lucy recalled having read the library bk the previus night and placing it n her bedside table. “Um...” she hesitated, “I returned it this mrning... and I’m thinking f wrking n this prject alne.”
      “Oh, I see,” Max walked away, disappinted.
      The next day, Lucy started wrking n her prject, a smart dustbin. Yes, she had a unique cncept fr the recycling bin but she struggled t cnstruct it. The design required a standard f wrkmanship that was simply beynd her capability. Frustrated, she went fr a walk dwnstairs.
      “Lucy?” she heard a familiar vice and lked up, surprised t find Max standing there. He had never witnessed her lking s disheartened befre; she was walking heavily alng with a discuraged expressin, sighing deeply. Cncerned, he called ut t her. “What happened?” he asked gently. Guilt-ridden, she admitted lying abut the bk and aplgized sincerely. Max frgave her readily.
      “Well, if yu need a partner, all yu have t d is ask!” Max replied, smiling.

      I read her stry withut stpping. It was incredible! It was abut a stray dg saving a family frm a fld. “Ww, great stry,” I tld her. “I dn’t have any suggestins. It’s perfect!” “Yurs t,” she whispered. She didn’t even lk at me as she passed mine back.
      When the sessin finished, Penny lked relieved. She jumped up and grabbed her backpack. Everything fell ut. “Oh n!” she cried. She put her stuff back in and hurried ut. I nticed a bk under the table. Its title was Sunny the Brave, and the plt was exactly like Penny’s stry. Anger surged. I culdn’t believe she had cpied the idea. But when I fund her utside and handed her the bk, she was crying!
      All f a sudden, I wasn’t angry anymre. I remembered that my jb as her critique partner was t give helpful feedback, nt t make her feel bad. But what shuld I say?
      I went hme. At hme, Mm experimented with sauce while Dad measured spices precisely. I realized that Mm and Dad had different skills, making them a great creative team. With Dad’s attentin t detail and Mm’s sense f adventure, their dinners always turned ut delicius. That gave me an idea t suggest t Penny.

      “First-time travel?” he asked, catching my gaze in the rear-view mirrr (后视镜). “Yes, a big-deal trip in New Yrk,” I replied, my vice tinged with excitement. The driver smiled with a knwing lk and said, “Ah, New Yrk! Enjy yur flight. Just watch ut fr the traffic!”
      As we chatted, I felt a sense f calm wash ver me. The driver shwed gd manners and the sund f the engine was cmfrting. And I allwed myself t relax int the mment. The view f Canmre slwly gave way t the pen rad, and I watched as the landscape transfrmed, each mile bringing me clser t my destinatin.
      But my excitement quickly turned t upset as I std in the security line at Calgary Internatinal Airprt. My hands were shckingly empty, n familiar weight f my painting supplies. They were all gne, likely frgtten in the back f the taxi in my rush t catch the flight.
      A wave f helplessness washed ver me when I realized it’s my carelessness that caused this t happen. I std frzen, my mind racing thrugh the implicatins f arriving in New Yrk withut my painting supplies.
