A new study reveals that pigens (鸽子) can tackle sme prblems just like artificial intelligence, enabling them t slve difficult tasks that might challenge humans. Previus research has therized that pigens emply a prblem-slving strategy, invlving a trial-and- errr apprach, which is similar t the apprach used in AI mdels but differs frm humans’ reliance n selective attentin and rule use. T examine it, Brandn Turner, a psychlgy prfessr at the Ohi State University, and his clleagues cnducted the new study.
In the study, the pigens were presented with varius visual images, including lines f different widths and angles, and different types f rings. The pigens had t peck (啄) a buttn n the right r left t indicate the categry t which the image belnged. If they gt it crrect, they received fd; if they were wrng, they received nthing. Results shwed that, thrugh trial and errr, the pigens imprved their accuracy in categrizatin tasks, increasing their crrect chices frm abut 55% t 95%.
Researchers believed pigens used assciative learning, which is linking tw phenmena with each ther. Fr example, it is easy t understand the link. between “water” and “wet”. “Assciative learning is frequently assumed t be far t primitive t. explain cmplex visual categrizatin like what we saw the pigens d,” Turner said. But that’s exactly what the researchers fund.
The researchers’ AI mdel tackled the same tasks using just the tw simple mechanisms that pigens were assumed t use: assciative learning and errr crrectin. And, like the pigens, the AI mdel learned t make the right predictins t significantly increase the number f crrect answers. Fr humans, the challenge when given tasks like thse given t pigens is that they wuld try t cme up with rules that culd make the task easier. But in this case, there were n rules, which upsets humans.
What’s interesting, thugh, is that pigens use this methd f learning that is very similar t AI designed by humans, Turner said. “We celebrate hw smart we are that we designed artificial intelligence: at the same time, we regard pigens as nt clever animals,” he said.
      8. What is the purpse f the new study?
      A. T test a thery.B. T evaluate a mdel.
      C. T emply a strategy.D. T invlve an apprach.
      9. What were the pigens expected t d in the experiment?
      A. Draw circles.B. Crrect errrs.C. Cpy gestures.D. Identify images.
      10. What d pigens and AI have in cmmn accrding t the study?
      A. They are f equal intelligence.
      B. They are gd at making rules.
      C. They respnd rapidly t rders frm humans.
      D. They emply simple ways t get things dne.
      11. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
      A. Pigens’ trial-and-errr methd is revealed
      B. Pigens utperfrm humans in tugh tasks

Recently, I accidentally fund a set f Hanfu l nly wre nce frm the bttm f the cupbard. I remember buying them simply t match the ancient-style hair accessries (配饰) a friend gave me. It ccurred t me that 1 had been trapped in the “birdcage effect”.
“Birdcage effect” means that when yu get an item ne day, yu will prepare mre things t match it. Weeks ag, I was in the cmpany f friends engaged in shpping. One said that she wanted t buy a gd writing pen t match the delicate ntebk that her sister gave her, s that she wuld fall in lve with taking ntes n reading, and thus lve reading, nt just reading. I jked that she must have fallen fr the “birdcage effect”. But the friend said with a smile: “Why nt use the ‘birdcage effect’ instead?”
Fr the first time, I heard that the “birdcage effect” can be used in reverse (逆向). Hwever, this can’t help but remind me f middle schl, and I seem t have used the “birdcage effect”. Passing by a bkstre ne day, I purchased a magazine and saw the call fr cntributins published in the magazine, s I started writing with eager hands, and then I fell in lve with writing.
After shpping with my friends that time, I began t prceed t use the “birdcage effect”. I bught a small fresh tableclth t decrate my desk, and a beautiful ntebk t recrd my inspiratin. When everything was ready, I started writing again.
But hw can we get rid f the “birdcage effect” in many things, and even use the “birdcage effect” in the ppsite way? Varius “birdcages” unavidably appear in life, but we can distinguish them. If it is nt in line with the actual situatin, it is a “negative birdcage”, then we must learn t stp lsses in time and maintain a heart f abandnment and separatin. If it is a “psitive birdcage” that mtivates us t develp upward, we can clarify ur gals, shp r decrate apprpriately, and mtivate urselves t mve twards ur gals. At this time, yu will find that the “birdcage effect” is actually nt s terrible!
      12. What is paragraph 2 mainly abut?
      A. The applicatin f the “birdcage effect” in life.
      B. The necessity f using the “birdcage effect” in life.
      C. The turning pint f the authr’s idea n the “birdcage effect”.
      D. The authr’s cnflict with her friend ver the “birdcage effect”.
13 What is the authr’s purpse in mentining her middle schl experience?
      A. T recall her delightful days at schl.
      B. T explain the reasn fr her lve with writing.
      C. T cnfirm the psitive f the “birdcage effect”.
      D. T prve her knwledge f the “birdcage effect”.
      14. Hw can we make use f the “birdcage effect” psitively?
      A. By realizing this effect has tw sides.
      B. By prmting ur persnal cnsumptin.
      C. By recgnizing this effect is nt s terrible.
      D. By guiding ur acts t g with reasnable gals.
      15. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
      A. Getting Rid f the Birdcage Effect Cnfidently
      B. Mtivating Ourselves t Mve Twards Our Gals
      C. The Birdcage Effect: Influence n Cnsumer Behavir

      C. “Nt smart” pigens may be as smart as AI
      D. AI mdels after pigens’ learning apprach
A 9. D 10. D 11. C

      D. The authr’s cnflict with her friend ver the “birdcage effect”.
      13. What is the authr’s purpse in mentining her middle schl experience?

此处需要用一个非谓语动词短语来修饰短语the first giant pandas,由于giant pandas被序数词first修饰,因此使用不定式t enter作为后置定语。
故填and。
故填where。
故填with。
故填an。
故填has wrked/has been wrking。
