      “Pssessing high cgnitive reserve, based n educatin, high academic grades, and written language skills, may predict what happens years after smene receives a diagnsis f mild cgnitive impairment,” said Suzanne Tyas, a prfessr in the Schl f Public Health Sciences at Waterl and lead authr. “Even after cnsidering age, genetics and established risk factrs fr dementia, we fund that higher levels f educatin mre than dubled the chances that peple with mild cgnitive impairment wuld return t nrmal cgnitin instead f prgressing t dementia.”
      The study’s findings have meanings fr treatment and research in peple with mild cgnitive impairment.
      “If individuals with higher cgnitive reserve are mre likely t imprve even withut treatment, then this needs t be taken int cnsideratin when recruiting participants fr clinical trials f prspective treatments and when interpreting the results f these trials,” Tyas said, adding there’s n cure fr mst causes f dementia, s preventin is key.
