In June, Andrés Trres wn the Basque Culinary Wrld Prize—ften called the “Nbel Prize f cking”. Casa Nva, the restaurant where he wrks, is a temple t the art f slw, sulful cking. It’s the kind f place that, using nly what is naturally abundant, relies n age-ld methds and the particularities f a regin’s land, climate and cultures.
Many f Trres’s cking techniques fit in with his cmmitment t sustainability. He has seen enugh f the wrld t knw hw vital it is t preserve the planet’s resurces. “Sustainability is very ppular in restaurants all ver the wrld,” he says. “But there’s a lt f nnsense ut there. Fr me, sustainability is smething very simple.” T that end, Casa Nva has egg-laying hens, beehives(蜂房)t make hney, and an enrmus vegetable land.
S far, admittedly, these are fairly standard ec practices. But Trres even prduces his wn salt, risking ut in a bat t cllect Mediterranean seawater. He’s created a stne “insect htel” t supprt pest-eating insects that prtect crps withut the need fr pesticides(杀虫剂). Rainwater is gathered in cntainers previusly used t mature wine, and then used n the vegetables. Plates and cups are made by Trres’s wife. And instead f using dehydratrs(脱水剂),as many high-end restaurants and industrial prducers d, Trres built his wn drying rm and smkehuse.
Envirnmentalism is nly part f the stry he wants t tell. The restaurant he runs helps fund Glbal Humanitaria, a nnprfit he set up in 1999 t supprt educatin and children’s rights acrss the wrld and prvide emergency relief fr victims f cnflict and natural disasters.
24.What is special abut Casa Nva?

C.It’s unsystematic and immature.D.It’s unnecessary and impractical.
26.Accrding t Trres, which behavir is mre sustainable?
A.Using pesticides t prtect crps.B.Buying salt frm lcal markets.
      C.Building high-end smkehuses.D.Watering the vegetables with rainwater.

A new study, published in the Prceedings f the Natinal Academy f Sciences, cncludes that prper reductins in beef prductin, particularly in wealthier natins, culd significantly slw dwn climate change by allwing frests t regrw n frmer grasslands.
The study used remte sensing technlgy t map grassland prductivity and estimate benefits f reducing beef prductin, finding that restring all ptentially frested grasslands glbally culd stre 445 gigatns(千兆吨)f CO2 by2100—equal t amunt f fssil fuel emissins(排放)ver a decade.
“We can achieve enrmus climate benefits with prper changes t the ttal glbal beef prductin,” says Matthew N. Hayek, an assistant prfessr in New Yrk University’s envirnmental studies department. “By fcusing n regins with ptentially high carbn sequestratin(隔离)in frests, sme restratin strategies culd maximize climate benefits while minimizing changes t fd supplies.”
The team see high - and upper-middle-incme cuntries as pssible candidates fr frest restratin, where grass grws nly during a shrt grwing seasn. These regins, such as parts f Nrth America and Eurpe, have sme current grasslands that d nt prduce very much grass per acre, and thus have ptential t grw thick frests able t absrb a lt f carbn. In cntrast, lwer-incme regins like sub-Saharan Africa and Suth America, where much mre grass can grw year-rund, can cntribute t balancing reduced prductin elsewhere.
Matthew acknwledged that refrestatin cannt replace cutting dwn n fssil fuel pllutin, but wrks tgether with it t help fight climate change. “In many places, this regrwth culd ccur naturally withut any human invlvement. Hwever, in sme places, with especially damaged envirnments r sils, native and diverse tree-planting culd give regrwth a helping hand,” says Matthew.
Althugh the findings d nt call fr extreme changes t glbal fd prductin, the team emphasizes that immediate actin is essential t meet climate gals. Targeted plicies are called fr t priritize frest recvery in high-impact areas—fr instance, by ffering beef prducers rewards fr frest land cnservatin r purchasing their cmpany shares.
      28.Why is “445 gigatns f CO2” mentined in paragraph 2?
A.T clarify a specific climate gal by 2100.
B.T quantify the benefits f grassland recvery.
C.T shw the difficulty f cutting fssil fuel use.
D.T highlight the rle f remte sensing technlgy.
29.What can be learned abut the grasslands in sub-Saharan Africa and Suth America?
      A.They are ideal fr refrestatin.
B.They have a shrt grwing seasn.
C.They are expected t feed mre animals.
D.They have a lw capacity fr carbn absrptin.
30.What plicy is suggested fr frest recvery?
      A.Limiting beef exprts.B.Increasing agricultural taxes.
      C.Prviding financial benefits.D.Intrducing advanced technlgy.
31.What might be a suitable title fr the text?
A.Targeted Beef Cuts Bring Climate Benefits
      B.Grassland Expansin Ends Carbn Emissins
C.Glbal Fd Prductin Must Decrease Significantly
D.Beef Industry Grwth Prmtes Envirnmental Health
In 1933, philspher Bertrand Russell bserved that “the fundamental cause f the truble is that in the mdern wrld the stupid are cnfident while the intelligent are full f dubt.” This insight remains relevant tday, but the issue runs deeper: while mst peple recgnize vercnfidence in thers, they rarely see it in themselves. This phenmenn, knwn as the Dunning-Kruger Effect, reveals that thse with the least knwledge ften verestimate their abilities, while the truly knwledgeable remain humble and pen-minded.
The internet exacerbates this prblem. With endless access t infrmatin, peple ften mistake superficial understanding fr prfessinal knwledge, leading t vercnfidence. Organizatinal psychlgist Adam Grant addresses this in his bk Think Again, urging readers t challenge and update their beliefs. Grant argues that we ften adpt the mindsets f churchmen, lawyers, r pliticians—defending ur beliefs, attacking thers’, r seeking apprval—rather than seeking truth.
T vercme this, Grant suggests separating ur sense f self frm fixed beliefs. Instead f sticking t beliefs, we shuld be pen t revisin. This scientific mindset encurages us t test ideas and update ur understanding. Grant cites a study where entrepreneurs(企业家)trained in scientific thinking did better than their peers and achieved greater success, which highlights the value f pen-mindedness and adaptability.
In the final part f the bk, Grant shws us hw rethinking skills enhance plitical debates, teaching, and wrkplace innvatin. Grant prvides a hst f illustrative examples, but my favrite is the example f a histry teacher wh gets her students t think like scientists by rewriting textbk chapters that failed t cver imprtant histrical events in sufficient depth. This is a far better apprach than simply delivering a lecture and frcing students t review the infrmatin n a test.
But f curse, this bk is nt the final wrd n the tpic, and Grant wuldn’t want it t be. As we gain better evidence and mre experience, it’s ur respnsibility t cntinually renew ur beliefs. As Russell said, “If yu’re certain f anything, yu’re certainly wrng, because nthing deserves abslute certainty.”
32.What prblem d mst peple have?
A.Decline in self-cnfidence.B.Cncern abut thers’ dubts.
      C.Indifference t scial prblems.D.Unawareness f persnal limitatins.
33.What des the underlined wrd “exacerbates” in paragraph 2 prbably mean?
      A.Creates.B.Fixes.C.Wrsens.D.Prevents.
34.Which persn culd be an example in the final part f the bk?
      A.A chef pen t feedback.B.A scientist resistant t dubts.
C.A dctr reliant n experience.D.A cnsumer blinded by brands.
35.Which f the fllwing can be used t describe the bk?
A.Practical and cnclusive.B.Insightful but nt definitive.
C.Infrmative and theretical.D.Authritative but nt engaging.
When was the last time yu felt clear-headed? 36 We’ve accepted the cnstant stream f thughts, the endless t-d lists, and that bthersme feeling f frgetting smething imprtant. But there are ways t create a little breathing space.● Write abut yur prblems
While it may sund strange, writing abut the things that are cntributing t the sense f verlad can have a psitive effect. 38 It is fund that physical tuch can reduce stress and prmte verall well-being. A randmized clinical study frm University f Sã Paul als fund that massage(按摩)can reduce stress and anxiety levels. S, whether yu reach ut t smene yu lve, r find a qualified massager, human cntact can create calm.● Try the tw-minute rule
This is a cncept frm David Allen’s prductive bk, Getting Things Dne. His rule states that if the task that’s wrrying yu can be cmpleted in tw minutes r less, yu shuld d it immediately rather than adding it t yur t-d list. 39 It calms feelings f anxiety, and creates a sense f achievement.● Make a “n thank yu” list
Smetimes the sense f verlad is caused by unnecessary tasks and respnsibilities. Are there any activities r pprtunities that yu can say “n thank yu” t? It can be hard t say n, but the relief f taking smething ff yur plate might be wrth it. 40 By saying “n” t lw-pririty tasks, yu create space t fcus n what matters mst.
A.Massage helps lwer stress and anxiety.
B.Create a list f activities yu chse t cut ut.
C.This rule helps yu finish mst tasks in tw minutes.
D.Hugging r hlding hands with a lved ne prves helpful.

F.Ding s means yu avid creating mre future wrk fr yurself.
G.Start with a blank page and nte dwn whatever cmes t yur mind.

      G Beynd
I stared at the art cntest pster. This year’s theme was “G Beynd”. My fingers held my pencil case tightly. Last year, my painting didn’t win anything. The judges didn’t say it was bad—they just walked past it withut stpping. I remembered hw my hands shk when I tk it dwn after the cntest. The memry still made me feel a little sad.
“Are yu jining again?” Emma asked, gently tuching my arm. Her sketchbk(素描册)was pen, shwing a bright sunset she had drawn. The range and pink clrs lked s real, like yu culd feel the warmth frm the paper. I tk a deep breath.
“I’m nt sure,” I said quietly, rubbing my she n the flr. A black mark appeared where my te dragged. “What if I fail again?” My vice came ut smaller than I wanted.
Emma smiled and turned t anther page—a funny drawing f Jay Chu singing, his muth pen really wide. “Wh cares abut winning?” she said. “Remember that cartn yu drew f Taylr Swift? Everyne lved it! Yu shuld just paint what makes yu happy.” “Yur art is special. Just paint what yu lve!” Her smile was s cnfident that it made me want t believe her.
Fr weeks, I thught abut it. Every time I pened my sketchbk, I remembered last year—hw I std there, watching the judges pass by withut a secnd glance. My chest felt tight when I thught abut it. The blank pages seemed t stare back at me, but my fingers refused t pick up the pencil, as if frzen by last year’s disappintment.
But Emma kept encuraging me. She left little ntes in my lcker, like “Keep trying!” and “I believe in yu!”. One rainy afternn, she surprised me by putting her best paint set n my desk. The plastic case clicked when she pened it, shwing rws f bright clrs. “Try these,” she said, handing them t me.
