By my early 40s, I had exhausted all the hbbies suppsed t make me feel better abut entering middle age. At the height f my desperatin, I decided t sign up fr a ballet class.
“But yu’re nt very flexible,” my husband gently reminded me. He wasn’t wrng. I nearly injured myself when trying t stretch my leg. Als, my track recrd fr cmmitting t physical activity wasn’t great.
But I was determined t give it a try. I needed cnfirmatin that my bdy was capable f mvement and grace.
Befre leaving the huse fr my first ballet class fr adults, I hadn’t expected any f it t stick. But this time, the exact same things that had made me flee the studi as a 10-year-ld nw brught a certain jy.
When I expressed disappintment with my lack f grace in practising simple acts, my teacher reminded me ballet isn’t abut perfectin. Rather, it’s abut striving fr perfectin. As a writer arguing sentences all day hping they will apprach the beautiful, perfect cnstruct in her mind, this felt like the best, mst fierce writing advice.
Slwly, I felt mre cmfrtable with the bdy I saw staring back at me in the mirrr. And the idea that my bdy is still a wrk in prgress encurages me. If anything, ballet is frcing me t rethink my relatinship with my bdy. As fr the imperfectins? They’re part f being alive.
Eight years int my ballet classes, I’m a lifelng advanced beginner. Recently, my teacher taught us a beginner-apprpriate versin f the Rse Adagi frm Sleeping Beauty. As I std in my living rm, balancing shakily and dancing fr nbdy but myself, I felt every inch a ballerina.
24.Why did the authr learn ballet in her middle age?
A.T prvide supprt t her ballet instructr.
B.T cultivate inspiratin fr her writing career.
C.T participate in a persnally fulfilling activity.
D.T demnstrate her cntinuing physical capabilities.
25.Hw did the authr prbably feel abut ballet as a child?
      A.Terrified.B.Interested.C.Relieved.D.Determined.
26.What kind f persn is the authr?
      A.Curius and mild.B.Strict yet indecisive.
      C.Negative yet hnest.D.Determined and pen-minded.
27.What des ballet teach the authr?
A.Enjy the jurney f becming a better self.
B.It’s acceptable t frgive herself fr nt trying.
C.Physical flexibility cmes first fr the middle-aged.
D.One shuldn’t stp striving fr persnal achievements.

A tiny cling device can autmatically reset faulty cmpnents f a quantum cmputer. Its perfrmance suggests that cntrlling heat culd als enable ther autnmus quantum devices.
Quantum cmputers aren’t yet fully practical because they make t many errrs. In fact, if qubits (量子比特)- key cmpnents f this type f cmputer - accidentally heat up and becme t energetic, they can end up in an incrrect state befre the calculatin even begins. One way t reset the qubits t their crrect states is t cl them.
Simne Gasparinetti at Chalmers University f Technlgy in Sweden and his clleagues have assigned this task t an autnmus quantum “refrigeratr” fr the first time. The researchers built tw qubits and ne qutrit (量子三元), which can stre mre cmplex infrmatin than a qubit, frm tiny supercnducting circuits. The qutrit and ne f the qubits frmed a fridge fr the secnd target qubit, which culd eventually be used fr cmputatin.
The researchers carefully engineered the interactins between the three cmpnents t ensure that when the target qubit had t much energy, which caused errrs, heat autmatically flwed ut f it and int the tw ther elements. This lwered the target qubit’s temperature and reset it. Because this prcess was autnmus, the qubit-and-qutrit fridge culd crrect errrs withut any utside cntrl. Withut any significant quantum cmputer redesign r intrductin f new wires, the qubit’s starting state was crrect 99.97 per cent f the time. In cntrast, ther reset methds typically nly manage 99.8 per cent.
Michal Hrdecki at the University f Gdansk, Pland, says ne f the mst urgent prblems fr quantum cmputers built with supercnducting circuits is making sure the machines dn’t heat up and s make errrs.“The fact that this machine is autnmus, s it des nt require any external cntrl, shuld make it efficient and versatile, says Niclas Brunner at the University f Geneva in Switzerland. The new experiment pens a path fr many similar prjects that have been prpsed but never tested, such as using qubits t build autnmus quantum engines. The researchers are already lking int whether they culd build n their experiment. Fr example, they might create an autnmus quantum clck r design a quantum cmputer with ther functins autmatically driven by temperature differences.
28.What is the majr prblem with quantum cmputers?
A.They lse accuracy as their temperatures rise.
B.They exhibit errrs even under minimal wrklads.
C.They rely n human interventin during peratin.
D.They require significant energy t maintain stability.
29.What is the design f Simne Gasparinetti’s team?
A.Building external systems t cl qubits.
B.Adding new wires t reset qubits manually.
      C.Absrbing heat autnmusly via qutrit-qubit.
      D.Simplifying interactins between cmpnents.
30.What des the underlined “versatile” in paragraph 5 prbably mean?
      A.Cst-effective.B.Multi-functinal.C.User-friendly.D.Grund-breaking.
31.What is the best title fr this passage?
A.A super quantum fridgeB.Future fr quantum engines
      C.Overheating f quantum devicesD.Quantum cmputer crrects itself
D teenagers need t relax? Increasingly nt just parents are seeking a break frm wrk and family pressures but adlescents t, cping with “intense schling and sprts prgrammes”. S much s that the Glbal Wellness Summit identifies teen wellness as a trend fr 2025 with the industry fcusing n teenagers’ emtinal intelligence, resilience, and hw t survive in a digital wrld thrugh resrts, retreats, and mental wellness apps.
Rina Raphael, authr f The Gspel f Wellness, tells me wellness—physical and mental health—has replaced the nce-dminant fashin and beauty industries. McKinsey reprts that Gen Z utspends lder cnsumers n mindfulness-related wellness prducts such as meditatin classes, mindfulness apps, and therapy sessins, even seeking preventive slutins t ageing-related health issues.
One f the prblems the wellness sectr aims t address is mental health. Blame fr the mental health crisis has been laid n smartphnes. But apps als ffer a slutin. Many, like Chill Panda and HappiMe are n the UK’s CAMHS (child and adlescent mental health services) website and in demand. A study in The Lancet cncluded bans r restrictins at schl dn’t lead t “better mental wellbeing in adlescents.” Parents have a rle t. An intensive parenting ften leaves children withut examples f parents scialising r pursuing passins.
There’s nthing bad abut frming healthy habits. But is the wellness industry respnding t—r cntributing t—the pressures yung peple face? Think abut the new ty package Mattel released five years ag: Wellness Barbie—a mre glwing and relaxed versin f Barbie and a prduct in training children t becme cnsumers f wellness. And thse baby massage classes dressed up as a wellbeing treatment t imprve the infants’ md and physical health struck me as ridiculus. What’s a baby gt t wrry abut?
The idea that experiences bught by parents and ffered by the wellness industry slve adlescent anxiety seems unprmising at best. As Raphael pints ut, the prblem with wellness is “it’s very much tied t prductivity, aesthetics (美学) and cnsumerism. It adds a pressure that yu have t be wrking n yurself.” But I can’t see it ending. After all, as Rnald Purser, authr f McMindfulness, tld me: “Yu can never be t well; that’s why it’s a massive grwth industry”.
32.What culd be cunted as a wellness activity?
      A.Aiming fr tp grades nnstp.
      B.Practicing mindfulness using an app.
      C.Checking scial media fr attentin.
D.Skipping meals t manage bdy shape.
33.What is a pssible reasn fr teen mental health issues?
A.A demand fr services.B.A passin fr sprts.
      C.A ban n mental health.D.A lack f rle mdels.
34.What wuld Rina Raphael agree with mst?
A.The fashin and beauty industries matter mre t Gen Z.
B.Teenagers are pressured t cnsume wellness prducts.
      C.Wellness Barbie assists children’s adaptatin.
D.Baby massage classes are nt effective as expected.
35.What’s authr’s attitude twards the wellness industry?
      A.Hpeful.B.Calm.C.Critical.D.Pessimistic.

One f my teachers nce asked my class what ur favrite memry was. She was asking fr the mment in which “yu felt the best, like yu had the wrld in the palm f yur hand.” Sme described grand awards; thers described winning a turnament. But I felt the best when I first learned hw t ride my bike at the age f seven.
Actually, when I was brn, my brther was a junir student at schl, s there seemed t be a generatin gap between us. In his eyes, maybe I was t little t understand him r t yung t share his sadness r happiness.
Hwever, I her-wrshipped him. I was s curius abut his wrld that I culdn’t wait t inquire abut his schl life the mment he came back hme. “I am s ccupied with my assignment. Can’t yu wait…?” he ften respnded like that. Many times, I even wanted t literally fllw my brther, sbbing every time I was prevented frm hanging arund with him. “I was an annyance t him.” I murmured sadly.
Later, I stpped trying t impress him and learned t be ttally indifferent. Perhaps the silent treatment wuld get mre attentin. I was wrng. We sn fell int a sad pattern—I avided him, he ignred me, and deep inside, it hurt. Indifferent r hstile, he was nly a brther in name. I believed we wuld frever be apart, tw husemates withut cnversatin, tw strangers withut warmth. I gradually assumed that my big brther didn’t shw any cncern fr me at all. My little heart gt brken.
