I can't remember hw many times I' ve been asked, “If yu culd have a superpwer, what wuld it be?” My answer wuld always be the same: I'd want the ability t knw what peple are thinking. Abslutely, flying and invisibility had crssed my mind. But every time, I'd always settle n perceiving peple's thughts. As a curius persn, I'm always wndering what is ging thrugh smene's head. And what if I smehw had the superpwer I'd always wanted, like Hal Stewart inMegamind, and was able t hear peple's inner vice?
In a friend grup, I usually take a backseat in cnversatins, watching everyne else interacting and ccasinally cntributing my pinin. Seeing hw peple cmmunicate with each ther makes me wnder what is really ging n in their heads. Whether we admit it r nt, we always keep sme thughts t urselves. It's human nature, after all. Yet ur tendency t hide certain feelings and unintentinally judge thers keeps me n edge. It's what makes me want t knw what peple are thinking. I'm cnstantly afraid f what peple think f me. D I lk bad?Did I d smething wrng?
These thughts ften cnsume me and make me verthink. I verthink peple's reactins, mvements and even wrds. I verthink past cnversatins I had, wndering what I culd have said instead t make me sund less stupid r mre genuine.
Ultimately, I' ve cme t realize that it shuldn't really matter what ther peple think. While
knwing what peple think f me may settle any dubts I have abut myself r a relatinship, it's an verwhelmingly(压倒性地) exhausting ability t have.
Indeed, it's nt wrth wasting time, energy and emtins wrrying abut whether yu appear cl t smene. Yu nly have s much cntrl ver that. Fcus n what yu can cntrl, but dn't verthink. At the end f Megamind, Hal realizes all his“superpwers” made him the villain(坏蛋). They cnsumed him; having the pwers wasn't wrth it in the end.
S let g. Because in the end, des it really matter what ther peple think? N superpwer is100 percent wrth it.
      24. What special ability was the authr eager t pssess?

First they came fr the eggs. Then the feta cheese, cttage cheese and cucumbers. In sme cuntries, these ingredients (食材) were even ut f stck: Iceland experienced a shrtage f cucumbers, and feta briefly disappeared frm grcery-stre shelves. The reasn fr the mass purchases? Enthusiasts f nline cking were eager t recreate viral vides in which each f these ingredients starred.
Few tpics are as appetizing t netizens as cking, especially ver the hlidays. Fd is the furth-mst ppular subject n the internet, up frm 17th place in 2009, accrding t GWI, a cnsumer-research firm.
The abundance f nline-fd cntents nt nly causes ccasinal ingredient shrtages when a vide ges viral. It is als making cking mre gregarius. In eating bradcast vides, streamers can pig ut fd in frnt f a camera and field live cmments frm viewers and give instant feedbacks. The fact that scial media have caused interest in fd t rise as fast as hme-baked bread shuld nt cme as a surprise. Everyne has t eat, and cking is a cmmn hbby. Vide is als an efficient medium fr instructin— mre precise, in many ways, than the written wrd.Americans wh recently cked turkeys fr Thanksgiving can testify that“glden brwn” t ne ck may lk underdne t anther and even burnt t a third.
Successful nline fd persnalities“recgnise and make a real effrt t meet the specific needs f their viewers”, explains Madeline Buxtn, culture and trends manager at YuTube. Sme viewers want t be entertained; thers want t learn, travel r eat vicariusly (感同身受地) thrugh peple mre adventurus than they are. Online chefs and fd bsters sell a lifestyle: yu are what yu eat, hw yu eat and what yu watch abut eating.
      28. What caused sme ingredients t be sld ut in Iceland?
      A. The delicacy f thse ingredients.
      B. The mdest price f thse ingredients.

      31. What is Buxtn's pinin abut successful nline fd cntents?

      D. They shuld be devted t a balanced lifestyle.

Lk thrugh the pages f a business magazine r walk thrugh an airprt r train statin and yu' re likely t be surrunded with advertising frm cmpanies claiming t have gne green. G t a grcery stre and yu' ll see everything frm laundry washing pwder t ygurt claiming t be net zer (净零排放). Unfrtunately, this isn't always the case. Painting a rsy picture f ging green wn't actually wrk.
This is why the United Natins Secretary-General Antóni Guterres decided t blw the whistle and call n crpratins t start walking the talk n their net-zer prmises—— which wuld require immediate actin t cut greenhuse gas emissins as clse t zer as pssible. TheSecretary-General is clear: “We cannt affrd slw mvers, fake mvers r any frm f greenwashing.”
But why is greenwashing s bad? In part because the risks are s high. It's nt just false advertising: fake net zer claims drive up the cst that ultimately everyne will have t pay in rder t stp climate change. Greenwashing als fuels public disbelief abut climate issues and damages ne f the few mechanisms we have t crdinate(协调) glbal actin.
T restre hnesty t net zer cmmitment, the Secretary-General established a glbal task frce f 17 experts t lk clsely at the standards, definitins and criteria surrunding them. The reprt, called“Integrity Matters”, sets ut what it means t make a net zer prmise. Once in effect, the criteria clarify what des and desn't cunt twards a net zer gal as well as what is plainly disqualifying. This means that we can knw the cmpany's verall emissins are ging dwn instead f buying cheap lw quality credit in a shrt perid f time.
We als want cmpanies t publicly and transparently disclse real prgress they are r aren't making t reduce their emissins. Wrk is underway t develp a credible, cmprehensive public nline database that we can check t see the prgress a cmpany is r isn't making t reduce its emissin.
Tday, we need a series f intercnnected and dynamic mves fr net zer gals. As Canada'sMinster f Envirnment and Climate Change, I saw the pwer f business, financial institutins, cities and regins t help accelerate psitive change.
      32. Why des the authr list net zer claims in paragraph 1?
      A. T advertise green prducts. B. T present a phenmenn.
      C. T prpse a suggestin. D. T criticize net zer.
      33. Which f the fllwing can best describe greenwashing?
      A. It advcates maintaining a psitive lifestyle by walking.
      B. It is devted t develping sustainable and green prducts.
      C. It dampens public enthusiasm fr buying high quality gds.
      D. It is an act t ffer misleading claims abut cutting emissins.
      34. What can we learn abut Integrity Matters frm the text?
      A. It can ffer specific guidelines n envirnmental prmise.
      B. It frces cmpanies t declare their prgress in ging green.
      C. It has addressed public's cncerns ver net zer prmise.
      D. It may disqualify cnsumers t buy green prducts.
      35. What might the authr cntinue talking abut?
      A. Examples f cmbined green effrts. B. Benefits f ensuring a sustainable planet.
      C. Rewards fr genuine green actin. D. Great influences f Integrity Matters.

      Self-Reflectin: A Path t Grwth
Gd mrning, dear teachers andfellw students! Tday, I'd like t highlight the significance f self-reflectin, a time-hnred wisdm frm Chinese culture. Zengzi’ s advice, “I daily examine myself,” emphasizes the imprtance f daily self-reflectin.

I still remember when struggling with math, instead f cmplaining abut external factrs, I carefully analyzed my prblems and adjusted learning appraches. Eventually I was rewarded with imprved academic perfrmance. Since then,my cnfidence has been significantly bsted.
